From that list of overseas coaches I think Peter Gentle has probably the highest pedigree working with Tim Sheens at a succesful club like West Tigers for 3 years. Gentle also has an assistant coaching role with the Australian national team as a defence coach and video analyst.

That's the sort of attitude we need at Salford!!!

Noble hasn't even applied for the position has he? If this is the case why approach him if he doesn't even want the job?

I doubt we would have enough money to fill it.

| I must admit, Ricky Stewart has got my mouth watering. Very unlikely I would think, but would love it to be true.

| I'm sure Ricky Stuart once commented that he sent the Roosters out to smash the Bulldogs of the park. That was in an NRL final. Didn't work, but that's the sort of mentality Salford needs. Having worked together previous, he might just be able to tempt Mozza into one last season together. All pie in the sky, but if the board really want to put Salford on the map, then this would be a real statement of intent!!
We just need the money to make it happen.

If Adrian Morley lifts the Super League Title this year it could well be possible.

| Stuart and Mozza. That would be a massive statement of intent from the club.
We have players with plenty of skill, but if Ricky Stuart could instil some that aggressive defence into the Reds, then we might just go somewhere next season. Cashmere, Jewitt, Sidlow, Wild, Anderson and probably Nero all have the physical attributes to put in good defensive sets. I've, also, seen Neal put in some decent shots.

| Wasn't it reported that Staurt had some difficult off field problems??
For me Stuart would be brilliant as he is a household name down under so would attract the right type of publicity in OZ and help attract the right sort of player and would be a giant leap forward in the type of coach we need at the club. You always got the impression with Stuart that if he didn't like you you soon found out and wouldn't see him taking any nonesense of any player from the offset.

| The way they are going about the interviews is bizarre-splitting up and doing separate interviews with different people.Surely prelim Aus interviews by phone or vid link.Do the English 1's and then go to Aus then.Seems nuts to me and time wasting.

How do you know that they haven't been doing interviews by phone, video link or web cam?
How do you know that people haven't already been interviewed over here?

With respect how can you be in any position to judge how the club goes about interviewing people for the job? (When you aren't familiar with all the circumstances)

Think people on here post as to what they have read in the M.E.N. & we all know what is printed in the paper is gospel
As theredshed has wrote "we are not familiar with all the circumstances" only what journo's have written, we need to trust in J.W. & the rest of the board, dont think the club would release every bit if information to the press, other clubs are looking for new coaches & we need to get in there first.

| Quote ="TheButcher"Personally, I think there's some potential candidates there to do what Nathan Brown has done, who, let's face it, was just as big a gamble as any of these.'"
There are some decent candidates in Oz. Gentle was over here last year talking to a few clubs - no takers at the time. Dunneman is probably a litte light on experience.
Simms is a sticking point. He is a lightweight and his judgement is questionable. How many smart coaches would want to report to Simms?
Brown had around 5 years as head coach with a big Sydney club. The assistants you are looking at have not been the top guy. there is an inherent risk there. Also the Huddersfield club Brown entered is a couple of years ahead of where Salford appear to be now. They had a CC Final and a top 5 finish, Anderson was already an excellent assistant coach and the players were better conditioned. NB also had Brett Hodgson joining the Giants!
John Wilkinson is spot on in going for the best Oz coach he can afford. However his reliance on Simms could scupper the whole process.

I agree with that, and that is why Salford will struggle to get a coach with Brown's experience. I think the Australian coaches would all offer something to Salford. Gentle, Dunneman and Wrigley are my preferences with Lam closely behind. I still think we'll end up with Millward though!

Because Simms knows little but thinks he is an expert. Why would anyone with a passing understanding of the game give McRae a very long term contract? why sign so many crocked older players on 2/3 year contracts. What has Simms done to introduce modern sport science into the club?
A new coach will be encumbered with the poor decisions of simms et al AND will have to report to Simms!
From a narrow Giants pov I hope you keep Simms. However I think the fans deserve better.

Maybe no coach will be appointed until the 2011 Franchise has been sorted.
