I have never once heard, read, seen a statement off Jaw regarding putting the club up for sale. I've heard in the past few years he is willing to step down IF, a younger enthusiastic businessman appeared on the scene to take over his reign. But he has never once put the club up for sale, so until he does we can't really take his comments seriously enough, we'll never know how much serious genuine interest is out there until he actually takes the club to market.

DI I'am confused your saying you haven't heard but you have? People who own sports clubs don't step down without selling their controlling interest of shares. Would you let someone play russian roulette with your money or personal guarantees? It's not the norm to advertise a club for sale, these things are usually done privately.

I know of three businesses recently sold which never ever were put up for sale: it's not a house you know.

I recollect hearing the Chairman make the offer of letting the club go if the right person came along, I am sure that it was on GMR some time ago and he has repeated it at Forever Reds meetings when questioned by fans but, and I know that some people will not accept the fact,he does have the club at heart and would only sell if he felt that it would be for the benefit of the club.

This to my mind was in a way putting the club up for sale and there doesn't appear to have been any offers.

If any prospective buyers read this forum I am not surprised.

RedJohn i fully understand your views, but to be honest he hasn't attempted a single PR & Marketing stunt in many a year. It doesn't cost a fortune in his world does it.

Many if the things you've suggested [ido[/i cost a fortune though, or at least a 'fortune' where Salford are concerned because they've virtually no money left for marketing. Even printing leaflets to hand out costs money. One of theh reasons for moving to the new stadium was to attract more money so they [ican[/i do some of the things you suggest. The money has to come from somewhere.

As DI has already explained, you can't just keep using REASONS to provide the reasons why things are the way they are...

Well i spend a lot of time in the warrington area, their community programme puts us to shame. I know the wire are backed heavily in wealth but even stretching back a dacade or so when they were averaging 4000 attendances, they were always marketing and promoting the club heavily so i don't buy into your views john. Their's no excuse refraining from promoting your product.

Not until serious consideration has been given as to whether the interested party is suitable or serious in taking control of said sporting entity would it then be made public.

Again, I don't think you're being fair there. Unless you're talking about giving away free tickets (which Salford have tried) then the things Warrington were doing will have cost money, and Salford haven't got any so can't do the same. Simon Moran bought the club about a decade ago, and I guess the apparent increase in marketing would have been financed by him. Salford need a Simon Moran, but we haven't got one (yet).

To help you comprehend, think of it this way, if a business you control is losing money (which SCR's does) when do you call it a day when putting money into that business ? I'm sure JW would put endless amounts of money into the club given he had an endless amount's of money to give! And that's what you strugle to grasp, HE DOES NOT HAVE ENDLESS AMOUNTS OF MONEY, it's been pointed out to you for month's now in topic upon topic that we're lucky to have a club to support, as the chairman and the board are not making a profit from the business and have every right to pull what funding there is and put the club into administration.

Very well put and I have to say anyone who has progressed from Jack and Jill books would understand what you are saying.
It's very fair to say that as well as Salford pretty much most other rugby league clubs Chairmen and directors are in the same boat.After all why would you seriously want to throw money at a club where you will receive no assets in exchange and then have to continue funding what is a bottomless pit unless of course as Lyrad Red has rightly stated, they also have a bottomless pit.
Those people that do have to be admired and that's what makes them chairmen and directors and us mere spectators.It's easy to forget that when times are hard and easy to use these people as an excuse, that said they do have to accept that in certain circumstances it is their decisions that ultimatley take the clubs in a certain direction.
It wasn't all that long ago that John Wilkinson was the best thing since sliced bread way back when he was trying to build the club it's own new stadium,unfortunatly that was beyond him and his board but credit to the man for at least securing the next best thing.

Love him or loathe him DI regularly shoots from the hip and some would say he's The Scarlet Turkeys No1 . . . . .
