| Should be £15 on the gate, £10 in advance.
Get people buying in advance then they are committed to turning up.

You could be right "Early Bath"
I think Salford City Reds should make this game 'FREE ENTERANCE'
Just as an experiment to see how many speckys we could attract to a game.
Just a thought......

| Quote ="TheButcher"Friday Nights, imo, was a bad idea from the start. Less away fans (Especially Yorkshire based) due to traffic/work problems. People not wanting to wonder around Weaste after dark on a Friday. Families that need to have kids in bed. Etc etc.'"
A large part of the decision to move to Friday night matches was to accommodate corporate sponsorship. With the majority of Lancashire-based Super League clubs playing their home fixtures on a Friday night too, it also seems to be a major consideration elsewhere.
Seemingly, the income and kudos from corporates outweighs that of paying supporters from Yorkshire and further afield.
Quote ="TheButcher"Would be interesting if anyone did a comparison between our Friday night Attendances and the last time we played Superleague Sunday afternoons.'"
It wouldn't be a fair comparison because for much of the time where we've played on Fridays, Salford have had a team worth going to see — and that's what it comes down to: if a match is a spectacle people [iwant[/i to see, people [iwill[/i attend.
I remember someone saying to me that football supporters don't complain when they have to go to areas similar to Weaste — Goodison Park for example — because they want to be there, nay [ihave[/i to be there. Salford's challenge to produce a team, matchday experience, whatever, to make people want to attend.
Quote ="Karlos13"Should be £15 on the gate, £10 in advance. Get people buying in advance then they are committed to turning up.'"
And abolish all, or at least the vast majority of the freebies. I'd go for that; I suppose we all would with us being paying speccys. The worry for the club is whether the only people taking up the discounted offer are those who already pay £15/£17 every week.

don't normally do it on a Saturday unless wrong change from the bar so it is a first for me, but it has brought out some debate and all because I was bored and completing some new lessons with local interest to the flock i have in Bolton. Might get them interested in getting to Salford to watch Rugby, some of them travel to St Helens

| I had to work on Friday night and for the first time ever couldn't give away my season ticket!
Why? Floating supporters don't want to see a meaningless game in a poor stadium, especially when the weather is so bad.
AND the most we have scored in a home game was against Celtic (I think) in our first game. 28 points. So if the game is played on a Friday or Sunday we are still very boring to watch.

I must be the only person who thinks that the difference in away support would be pretty negligible. Let's face it, the biggest away followings are likely to be Saints, Wigan and Warrington, and these don't tend to be affected too much by Friday nights. Granted, there may be some mileage in terms of Leeds and the Gruesome Twosome, but even then we're only talking in terms of maybe a couple of hundred speccies apiece.
General apathy is running right through the league, so for Salford to post an increase in crowds this year is pretty good going IMHO.

Rather than argue your point, as it's pretty sound, it does make me feel rather down-hearted as a RL fan.
The fact that it seems to be bringing in sub-standard investment/business that seems (And I stress this as I see no other alternative) to be bringing nothing to the advancement of Salford RLFC, why bother?
It's all very well attracting sub-standard investors to the club, and it is full of those, but the so-called "Speccies" make up the financial backbone of the Club. Fridays do more harm than good. Just look at it!
We are a Club hanging onto what we have. I'd love to be proved wrong, but I aint yet...

Spot on.
Travelling over from over the Pennines it's £17 on the train, then £17 on the gates, a few quid on the metrolink, a few beers and you're looking at £50 minimum to end up probably disappointed. If I could buy in advance I'd move some shifts around and get a cheap train ticket a few months in advance too so it's locked in my calendar and then try to persuade some mates to come along as well. The weather doesn't seem to have helped this year either if I remember right. Bit gutted having looked at my rota that as things look I won't get to the Willows this season.

| Quote ="TheButcher"Fridays do more harm than good. Just look at it!'"
Since say 1997, I'm quite sure Super League averages for Friday night matches are higher than those on Sundays; but as I alluded to before, the figures, rather than being a true indicator for the preference of the match day, are probably skewed by us having a more attractive team to watch for the bulk of the Friday night period.
Families with young children can go either way on this issue based on their lifestyles. Yes, it's true that a lot may be put off by the late finish of a Friday night. Some, however, will prefer Friday nights, because it gives them the remainder of the [proper weekend to have a mini break, head off to the caravan, or just have a rest day on a Sunday.
Although personally I'd prefer Salford to play its home matches on Sundays, it wouldn't surprise me if the difference in preference between the two days was negligible. Favouring corporate sponsorship over paying supporters, whilst pragmatic, is set never going to sit well with many of us on here; but I am glad that we aren't relying so much on away support bolstering our coffers — which was always a bone of contention on this forum in, shall we say, the pre-Trish era.
Again, I'll come back to what I and others mentioned previously: the issue with attendances is more to do with the spectacle. Is it attractive enough? Does it offer value for money?
One of Salford's largest modern day attendances was against Leeds in 2007. It was played on a Friday night, in Weaste, in a century-old ground. Regardless, all the elements for a good spectacle were there: it was the first match of the season, Salford had come off a very encouraging previous year placing 5th, Leeds were the Super League champions and we hadn't defeated them since 1993/4 (?). A potential upset was on the cards — it stands to reason that more people are going to [iwant [/ito see this.
The Salford team at present has regressed to the Harveyesque period of unpredictability. Most of the time, Salford will lose, and lose poorly; but now and again, they'll pull off the most unlikeliest of victories. This is opposite to the Harrison era where Salford were solid, rarely pushed around at home, but were as likely, if not less likely, to cause a massive upset. The problem for us now is that the latter of the two approaches is a safer bet, and a more encouraging watch overall.

| I hope you get your stadium started soon, but I'm not a fan of out of town stadia. I reckon virually every speccy at the new place will have to take some sort of transport. It seems out of the way for walk in fans. That might have a negative impact on attendances.

unfortunately Salford Council would not support a city centre stadium, they prefer empty shops and empty apartment/office blocks instead.

| I'm not talking about a city centre one, just one that is handy to get to without having to get a car/bus/tram etc. Our place is within walking distance of a large percentage of our fans.
