| Everybody connected with the club needs to back Matt Parish 100%. He seems like a breath of fresh air, impatient to turn Salford into a team that can compete with the top teams, and beat them.
That's what I want too.

| There should be no surprise from MP in terms of the playing staff, their contracts, and the money he has to spend on new players. All of this should have been discussed at the interview.
Even if the chairman painted a somewhat "rosey" picture of life at SRLFC, surely MP will have done his research - wouldnt you before travelling round the world for a new job?
That's why I was confused by his interview - I'm all for discipline and straight talking, but he must know that his job is to make the best out of what he's got, mustn't he?????
I went to the game, and saw we were beaten by better players, who play in a very professional way. I cant say there was a lack of commitment or effort from Salford, and Wigan's skill in getting penalties in key areas of the field ended the contest by half time.
Not saying Wigan didnt deserve their panalties, it's up to the Salford to manage the ref in the same way Wigan did, that's something that can be coached.

| I cannot believe we are having this debate, we have a new coach & we all agree he has given us a lift. I am sure he knew all about us before he came to us, for god sake one of the reason the board employed him was the research he had done on Salford before his interview & what had impressed the board was his vision on young players
I for one have seen some positive changes, he is faced already with loosing Rachford, Cashmere & Henry & I am sure he is working on his squad for next season when we will have plenty of time to judge. I am happy with his comments after game as he clearly a guy who lives & breaths the club already, I was glad he was disappointed with our performance level it shows he cares.
Lets please get away from this debate & get behind our coach, he has faced HKR away, Leeds at home & Wigan away, not the easiest in my book or am I missing something!

| Hi all i'm fairly new to this forum (this is in fact my 1st post) but from browsing through the threads a lot of what i seem to see is a wave of negativity and impending doom coming from certain individuals such as the originator of this thread 'lance todd' and others. How can you possibly judge MP on 1 game sat in the stand and 3 games in charge, all of which as afore mentioned were tough games to say the least! Why don't 'we' just let MP get on with his job while 'we' get on with ours.....supporting srlfc come what may? Anyone that thought drastic changes were going to come about within a month were blatantly having themselves on so lets put a little trust in the people in the positions that matter eh?

| i thought he got his post match comment pretty much spot on
disappointed with effort especially with goal line defence. U20's took a heavy beating so cant really ring the changes
IMO I thought you would have fared better this season, but know there were problems with SM etc
Backed up with players not performing (or not playing) its certainly not helped
I was never Feka's biggest fan, but he looks like he's lost weight, but didnt have the appetite for it yesterday. Phil Bailey never played, the hooker you signed (never played or got a permit)
all in all what looked to be a promising batch of signings pre season have let you down IMO
If you look at Wire and the changes they've benefited from since the move to their stadium, granted it took time and they also have someone to stick the money in
Parish will turn it around, but you've got to give him time to work with the young ones and bring them through. You have some good pros to work with them also (cashmere is one i've always been impressed with)

| Thanks Pieman, you make some good observations, I think MP got it spot on, I don't want to see or hear the comments we used to get from SM we were in it for 60 minutes, we need to train harder & we will turn it around.
Yes you are correct some of the signings have been huge disappointments, Feka springs to mind, a lot of Salford fans thought he was not a good signing for us, he was a good player in a good team, many Salford fans quite rightly predicted he was not the player we needed at Salford.
I believe we need to hold on to the wire model & hope we can turn this around, with the right marketing over time we have a great chance.

Stinking of someone on the inside or a relative of MP's new to the country. "We" in brackets twice in original post. Referring to 3rd person fans, and 1st person club etc. While I agree with the sentiment of letting MP get on with his job I find it very very difficult to find this post authentic... then again I could be wrong. Look at SM......

| I know that lancetodd has a reputation for negative postings and people on this thread seem to be reading his post as a pop at Parish, but I'm reading it more like "will Parish stick around or will he get frustrated and leave" - not questioning his ability, more what he has to work with.

| MP would want a chance to build his own team not one mcrae built in a half d way.
I'm sure MP after a full preseason with his own signings on board we will see a different salford, you can tell he loves the challenge.

I was referring to this not 'redgunner' post to be fair.
I'm sorry call me paranoid but that just stinks, I apologise if its a genuine poster, but that stinks of a relation making reference to "we" the fans. OTT. IMO,

Completely agree with your sentiment. Though if MP has been told to slash the Salary Cap we spent last year by 200k he'll be making some difficult decisions over the next week. Decisions that will make the club and possibly him unpopular with the fans. No new signing's, and reducing our already average squad by 2-3 players. Time will tell but I forecast a cloudy off season if there is any substance to these particular rumours.

| perhaps we won't have a good preseason from what was said last night, Aussie players going home and training over there as it is in their contracts, so once again we will start with a team that only gets together a couple of weeks before the season starts. Hopefully someone at the club will sort out these contracts, because it looks like the players can tell the board pretty much what they want and get it. I would say have October off and be back in November, plenty of time to renegotiate these contracts, 30 days notice and all that. Then don't let it happen again, I am sure Wilkie doesn't have similar contracts for his own staff.

It was actually a genuine post so apology accepted
The 'we' was intended as a generalised one (i.e 'us' fans) but with a nod towards the posters who seem intent on scrutinising, criticising and forever painting the club in a negative light. Hope that clears the air of the 'stink'!

Optimism can be in short supply, so much so that you'd be forgiven for forgetting we are about to move into a purpose built 12,000 capacity RL stadium, had been awarded a new franchise less than a month ago , and aquired the services of a new overseas coach full of new ideas.
read too many of these posts and hey presto , you'll soon be ' Paint it Black '

It could be down to finance. Maybe the club don't have enough money to pay rent or whatever for the full year, so negotiate a contract that involves the players coming over later.

a couple of extra months on a rental agreement would work out cheaper, short term lets are usually the most expensive, in the long run it would be cheaper to rent for the full term of a players contract, which is what they most likely do and the player comes back to the same place, in the meantime we still are paying rent on an empty property. More to do with giving in to what a player wants and us being desperate to sign players on whatever terms to get them to Salford, which is bad for the club has it develops an us and them culture.
