| Quote ="phil4.13"You are apparently in contact with Catalan hooker Kane Bentley.'"
That's an interesting rumour, as he plays for France he won't count on the quota and according the quota rules as he's been trained with Catalans for 3 years he counts as the same feberation (Super League). He's a hooker, a key position which we need to address and he's played international.
Could be good if we can land an experienced hooker with him.

| m.e.n. report also mentions ' A surprise move for Stella Drinker - Stuart Reardon and Jamie Langley'
Now the Reardon rumour I've heard before, not sure about him now but Jamie Langley I rate .
only 27, covering loose forward , but remembering him covering centre in his younger days and has turned out at 2nd row & prop.
Mind this is M.E.N. reporting and we are approaching silly season as far as contract talks and rumour abound. but here's hoping .

| I'd happily take Langley and Pattern if we get rid of Fitzy, but we need to think about having money left over for a new Hooker, centre (maybe two-three if Henry goes and we don't retain Tyrer), a new prop or two and a new loose forward, saying that I'd be happy with 3 quality signings, and a couple of decent ones because to be honest some of our younger players have massive potential and maybe we should bring in 1 or 2 experienced players to pass down the experience.

| I don't know about Langley, he would be a good signing but if it is true that we have signed Wild then I don't know where we would accommidate all of out players who can play 11, 12 and 13.

I'm sure we could accommodate Jamie Langley if this is anything to go by.....

| Willie Mason, now that would be a signing
As for Chev Walker I'd defo look into signing him, Ok his fitness hasen't been the best off late, but we're in the market for centre and I think he could do a job.

Parky, noooooooooo! no, and NO! He's absolutely dire mate. That's why he's ended up playing for the Cowboys despite being a Queensland hater. Nobody in NSW rated hime anymore. He's actually won the 'most overated player award' in Aus. In fact, last year at the Roosters, my cousins team, he was the only bloke to make 'the ogre', Mark O'Meley look good.
Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane!

| Mason might be worth a gamble, but not with his price tag, as for Walker, he's more of a second rower now, after that horrible injury he had the other year.

Mate just a few things.
1) This is Super league not the NRL, he may not be pulling up trees in the NRL but I'd bet he'd do pretty well in SL (Playing along side Cashmere, Jewitt, Boyle, Sidlow & Neal!)
2) Bums on seats / season ticket sales / publicity factor
3) How many players in SL offer the above?
4) Who would you sign (from those available)?

There is one small point there though, how many salary cap places have we got? Is big Phil taking one and isnt Talau exempt due to the amount of time he has been with first Saints and then us??
I can see Henry, Cashmere, Patten and Houldsworth being the overseas players we have on the books, unless any of those are Kolpac types or Patten is a plastic paddy or taff then don't really see how we can possibly fit all these players from the NRL that we being linked with left right and centre.
Though do have to agree that Mason would be a coup, sure Patten will hopefully be worth more on the pitch but Mason is a recognisable figure who would be easy to market and in tandem with Cashmere would for me make a pretty formidable front row, you'd also think that Cashmere being the more silent type Mason would be a more vocal and willing mentor for the young talented forwards we have on the books.

I presume you mean quota places mate? If so, five, Cashmere, Henry, Patten & Holdsworth so we have one more available.
And for the record.
2011
At least 8 home grown players.
No more than 5 quota players.
No more than 5 overseas trained players inc quota players.
Rest of squad to be from players trained within same federation

One area where the British game is pretty equal in relation to the NRL is in the props. Willie Mason won't be all that great in Super League. Mediocre at best.
2) Bums on seats / season ticket sales / publicity factor
=#FF0000That's very expensive publicity we're talking about here. Surely not equal to any revenue created on the back of such a signing.
3) How many players in SL offer the above?
=#FF0000Not entirely sure what the question is mate? Although there are cheaper and better options available in the NRL. (Point me in the direction of that list you compiled and I'll point out a couple.

Really? Sam Burgess, James Graham and 33 year old (but still the best we've got IMO) Adrian Morley who else?

The list I provided was purely NRL, that's not what I'm asking, we know there may be a few in the NRL however I'd hasten to say even with that list Willie Mason would stand out to the man in the street in Salford or anywhere else.
I would much prefer Aston Simms, Ben Cross, Luke Bailey, Carl Webb, Jason Ryles, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and maybe Chris Armit of those out of contract (up to last weekend) in the NRL, than Mason but if he was willing to come to these islands and the rest aren't then why not.
Although this is irrelevant now as he doesn't want to sign for us.

| There's obviously a split camp regarding Mason.
Some are suggesting that he's past it (although I wouldn't say so).
Some think he's a whole heap of trouble and not worth big money.
Some are of the opinion that he'd be a certain crowd puller.
In any event, it would appear that we are not favourites to land him.
Others who are more clued up on NRL props suggest that there are better out there.
The question is:
Are they available and would they sign for Salford.
If we intend to make a mark in our last season at The Willows, do we want to strengthen the team or pull the crowds in.
Ideally it'd be both, but I'd settle for either.

I'd say that if we signed Webb we would be taking a bigger risk than signing Mason.
