| Stadium Bands = entertainment for people with tiny brains.
Probably why the idea is going down well on the official facebook page.

| South Standers need to pull their finger out and get a decent atmosphere going at games, because apart from the odd occasion the place is like a morgue. Hopefully we don't ever resort to needing a band, but I can see why people are thinking about it.

| I think people are missing the intended point here, surely the idea of a band is to help make the game day experience more attractive to the new type the Doc wants to see week in week out at the stadium. I bet there's none of us won't go if there is a band and that any new families who might be tempted who have younger kids will love the idea.
I'm afraid it's called progress and seems to help create a good atmosphere at other grounds.

| Normally I would say a definite no.
But I didn’t mind the band on Thursday and in our current void of atmosphere stadium and trying to attract families, I have to say lets give it a go. What have we got to lose if it doesn’t work?

That's the point, make it a decent experience and do it properly I don't see what harm it can do.
Any atmosphere is better than the nothingness we have now.

| People seem to be forgetting that we've, by and large, been poor since the move, and you can probably count the memorable performances on one hand. When we have performed well (think the Catalan wins, HKR, Warrington) the atmosphere has actually been good.
Years of stodge under Mcrae sucked the passion out of watching Salford - hopefully a decent team that have a reasonable chance of winning most home games, with some exciting players, will resurrect the atmosphere without resorting to Muppetisation.

| Please, in the name of all that is holy no, no, no.
It's bad enough that the experience of watching a Super League game on TV from Headingley is ruined by that atrocious band or that any England football game is best watched on mute to avoid the band at their games. Now people are honestly suggesting that we should be forced to listen to this pap while we're watching Salford?
Are people seriously suggesting that the best way we can attract new fans is by making them listen to a band playing 'Tequila' every 5 mins? Society has indeed reached a new low if that is the case.

| If anyone can explain how a band playing 'we will rock you' during the game will enhance the matchday experience at Salford then I'm all ears.
Pre match/half time could be an option as the club need to start making home games more of an occasion rather than everyone just turning up 5 mins before kick off.

I think this hits the nail on the head. If we manage to get a winning team playing attractive rugby then there will be an atmosphere at the stadium without a band in sight. I found it an unnecessary irritation during the World Cup game.
I also think that the McRae years did us a lot of damage; damage that we will recover from if the new signings perform.
It's a long time since I've looked forward to a new season as much as I am doing now!

Enough said, If this is a way to entice the new fan then why not give them red and white wigs and giant foam hands while we're at it? There is nothing worse than having to listen to n0bbers banging their drums at Wigan, Wire etc. The atmosphere may be bad at the moment but string a few wins together next season and the old shed-like armosphere will return.

| Tbh it doesn't bother me either way, when I'm at the match I'm concentrating on the game anyway so don't even notice the drums or what people are wearing, I think people are getting uptight about things that don't even really effect them.

Really? You don't notice the continuous drone of the drum when we play Wire, Wigan & Hudds? It's awful. What about those annoying bl00dy horns that the club dished iut to kids at the Willows a few seasons back?
I despair sometimes when I see the originality that has gone from the terraces i the last 15 or so years. Very few witty songs/chants just the usual half a dozen generic songs churned out by 95% of cluibs fans (Chelsea Dagger, Chasing the Sun etc). I always thought we were better than that and I hope to god the south stand doesn't go down this route.

Honestly? no I'm that focused on the game I don't even notice it tbh. I'm not saying I want or dont want a band just that in think its a bit overreaction.

Just playing Devil's advocate here as I don't care either way and probably lean towards the 'No Band' camp...
What about those fans that mock the idea of a band/drum/dressing-up but get all nostalgic for singing?
I personally go to watch a RL game, not to hear a load of grown men sing out of tune.

| Has anybody ever stopped to think how a band may affect the players ?
Those who play or have played the game will know the concentration levels required to play Rugby League... the last thing you need is some band banging on.
This is an absolute NO NO.
And for those who are saying the South stand need to generate more atmosphere... Does sitting down automatically mean that it stops your mouth from working ? If you are in the seats, why not help it along yourselves.

| Because I would imagine those who use to the stand in the middle of the Shed and enjoy creating an atmosphere a) object to a band and b) like a sing song, all stand in the South Stand. The fact that you’re imploring the fans in the East and West Stands to open their mouths shows how poor the “noisy stand” is at the new stadium.
I can’t see it changing next season either, infact I can’t see it changing until a group of supporters decide to make a block in the East Stand the place to stand/sit to generate an atmosphere.

I'm not 'Imploring' anybody.... I'm merely pointing out that there are people criticising those in the south stand who aren't willing to 'join in'. No reason at all why it should be just left up to those standing in one stand.

| I was in the South Stand all this season, the atmosphere was dreadful. You'd get the odd chant going but nobody would carry it on. I don't know whether you can put that down to what we were watching, but we were sh*t at the Willows too. I also recall the West Stand getting involved a fair bit last season particularly in the close games.
As a result of the poor atmosphere I've moved to the West next season. View or atmosphere (or lack of) from now on.

| Does nobody seriously see the irony of steadfastly rejecting various noise-making and then telling everyone that the answer is to partake in their particular method of noise-making?
I was always a staunch Sheditte at the Willows, and sorry to say but the various 'Singing' was only ever participated by a select few. Plenty of 'SALFORD!' but that's it. I wouldn't be overly keen on a band/drum for the same reason as I don't want to sit/stand around a group of well-oiled lads shouting and 'Singing'.
The Shed had atmosphere, not because of singing, but because everyone was tightly packed in, it amplified what noise we made, and the players reacted to it. The lack of 'Atmosphere' in modern Stadia is that close proximity and the enclosed feeling is not present. The only way to create atmosphere is to increase the numbers of people in the stadium and give them something to shout about.

| There's a difference between "noise making" and "atmosphere". An atmosphere generated by people shouting, singing and chanting, often dictated by what's happening on the pitch in front of them, is far better and far more beneficial than a noise generated by some band that just does what they want at random points during the match with no bearing on what's actually happening.
I agree that the atmosphere at the new ground has been pretty crap, but, as said by someone above, it's probably more to do with the performances and the general apathy around the club that crept in pre-Koukash. Also, those who stood in the Shed have split around the ground, rather than all being in the South Stand. I know people sat on three sides of the ground on a match day.
Throwing a samba band (or any other kind, for that matter) into the mix will not improve anything. Get people in, get them excited again and the atmosphere will improve.
