| Quote ="BartonFlyer"What price were the rights sold for and how do you know that was lower than "market value"?
ATEOTD the value of anything is what you can get for it, clearly the joint venture company made a judgement call at a particular moment and sold the rights to Sale. Sale have now presumably received an amount of cash from AJ Bell in return for them being able to name the stadium for a number of years - we don't know what else is tied up in that deal so I think it's very difficult to attribute a "market value"'"
I agree with you Barton.
Fact of the matter is a few of you are getting your knickers in a twist over something which at the time was completely out of the clubs control.
If as stated on numerous occasions the Dr is the wealthy man he is a few bob earned on the naming rights of that stadium will hardly cause a ripple.
A few of you should concentrate more on what the product may or may not be like on the field next season.

| Quote ="Wirecutter"If the price wasn't lower than what Sale believed the 'market value' to be they wouldn't have invested in the naming rights. I guarantee you one thing Sale won't have sold them for less than what they paid the SMC for them.'"
Without knowing the commercial ins & outs of the contracts there is no way you can guarantee any such thing:
How long is Sale's lease?
If their lease outlasts the AJ Bell deal can they sell the rights again?
Have AJ Bell got the naming rights as part of a wider sponsorship deal with Sale?
Of course Sale must believe it's a good deal for them otherwise they wouldn't do it, but what's wrong with that? We all have to exist in world of commercial reality (apart from the bankers )
I still can't see how you think Sale somehow got the rights below "market value".

| As I've said previously this thread is all so much teeth gnashing & bravado after the event , considering , the deed . ( stadium rights ) were sold nearly a year ago even more so , a year ago we had other more pressing matter on our minds .
Having a retail outlet at the Stadium and possibly another location is far more important than fretting after the event .
As for the Stadium sponsors , I don't have an issue with their Initials , I will refer to it hence forth as the 'the Augustus John Stadium .. I just won't need to use their surname .
They also have naming rights At Old Trafford Cricket & the PSA Mens World Squash Championships. since like it or not they have the brand on the stadium until 2022, it would be a priority for Salford to approach them since it seems they are keen to link their firm with Mcr Area stadiums & sports , not just Rugger.

mmm perhaps you could explain the economics of that one?
Let's see, we've got a tenant tied up on a lease for <n> years so they are committed to pay us <£x> over that time - why don't we give them a discount on a set of rights that are ours to do with as we wish? Makes perfect commercial sense to me

| Man United still referring to it as the Salford City Stadium. There U19's are currently beating Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 in the UEFA Youth Cup at the SCS.

Dragging their heels about signing the tenancy agreement they then request the naming rights for £x in the knowledge they can sell for more and make a profit. SMC reluctant to sell them for £x but desperately need tenant 2 so they agree.

| I do wonder what sort of deal has been done regarding the general naming of the stands (and indded the stadium) at SCS and what games/events the rights have been sold for. The South Stand that became the Wellsprings South Stand when Sale moved in was actually plastered with someone else's advertising covering wellsprings for the England v France RL International last year.
I wonder if there is any scope for differnet sponsors for different events, or whether the rights are for a minimum number of events per year.

| You'd bet your last penny that if the Doc can get a stand named he will, I'd go for the South stand as I get the impression they are going to make a concerted effort to theme and make that all things Salford.

| What is more important, if we are looking over our shoulders at Sale, will be tomorrow's vote/decision when the English RU clubs owners meet.
There is a possibility of a different RU year:
September - February : the Premiership played through 24 rounds
February - March : The Six Nations
March - June : a European Cup
so our co-tenants could be playing Sept - Feb and Mar - June.
If the vote goes for a break-away from the Heineken Cup (or a new format for it), it will heavily depend on televised rights and so set fixtures at a time when the RL games also will depend on set fixtures. If Sky demand we play at Barton at the same time as BT Sport demand Sale play the same day ...
interesting

| Quote ="Uncle Rico"Seeing as you claim that you don't know what Peel and Kennedy are upto your statement is quite inflamatory.
As far as Peel are concerned weren't they trying to help your previous regime to a new ground, one they (you) couldn't afford to develop or even it would seem pay rent? Admittedly, this gesture was probably borne out of self interest, currying favour with the City Council, a bit of planning gain?
With regards to Kennedy I don't know the facts, but, aren't the ownership issues of Edgeley Park and your shared stadium completely different? Didn't Stockport County effectively become tenants in their own home (probably not nice)? Whereas you are both tenants and due to the parlous state of your club pre Koukash you have been forced onto the back foot.
Sale have excercised their legal rights nothing more and can they be blamed for that? You would have done the same if you had the wherewithall at the time of negotiating the deal?'"
I would urge any Salford to look at the history of Stockport and what Brendan Elwood (ex Stockport Chairman) says happened. He basically claims he was lied to when he handed the club over to Kennedy. Once Sale owned the club Stockport suddenly found they were not allowed into the ground anymore apart from match days.
Regarding Peel its worth pointing out they blocked the Stadium bid by Salford in favour of their own bid it was only when a comprise with Salford Council was reached they allowed the stadium to go through.
But you can find commonalities here both clubs long serving previous chairmen found themselves in deep water after unexpected financials crisis desperate to save their clubs.
Only to find a white knight comes along and down the round both clubs end up with no ground and a lease that only a crack addict would sign up to.
I have not even mentioned the blue seats. That went in a very forward thinking plan that saw them installed before even the idea of Sale moving in to the ground came about.

| There stadium is now branded up, do think it was nice of them to get the local special school to do the banner that has been thrown up. Looks like Bell's might have run out of money and done the signage on the cheap.

What Sale did to Stockport is common knowledge and has been written about many, many times. The info is out there, it's even appeared on here before now if you care to do a bit of rummaging. Funny how no one's ever been taken to task by Kennedy when they have written about it, eh?

I wasn't condoning what Kennedy apparently 'did' to Stockport, but, surely the relationship between Sale and Salford is a different kettle of fish?

| What are the chances Mr Koukash will purchase or part purchase SCS from Peel/SCC? I really hope he does and rips out the blue seats.
