Well if I was Wilkinson I wouldn’t care about making a profit if he sells, he’s already made some good money with willows variety centre in the past.

| After the game on Friday I realised that there is no identity any more we have a stuttering team with no confidence, 4-5000 fans witch have the same lack of confidence in the team and the people running the club. If something doesn't change in the performances by tge end of next season I think we could have a serious problem.
If nothing changes I can see Mr Wilkinson giving us away as a part time championship club

| Notice that Jim Ramsbottom was there Friday (I hope he has a blue badge as he was parked in a disabled spot) so maybe JW is looking at more Salford based investment.

I know people keep saying that Wilkinson would sell if the (right) buyer came along, but in my opinion any buyer would be better than the current owners, let's face it JW is poor millionaire compared to the rest of the SL chairmen. We need either a money man/ sugar daddy or a consortium needs to be formed made up of a few wealthy businessmen who all would put money in abit like what Hull KR have now, it's simple we need a winning team on the pitch to get the crowds in the stadium and to get that winning team we need MONEY! I really hope someone/businessmen fancies a challenge and does for Salford what Simon Moran has done for Warrngton and what Ian lennigan has done for Wigan, you have to speculate to accumulate, Money pumped in will 9/10 result in success and with success comes the profit. I believe the crowds are there ready in waiting, abit like what we have seen at Manchester city in recent years abit of success or even hope and people will come and jump on the bandwagon I'm certain of that, the only thing with Salford is the the last time we had success was before half the people the stadium were either not born or to young to go, if we think a new stadium would pull in crowds
We were sadly mistaken, we could have a stadium like the aliianz Arena yet with a average/poor team we'd still get no one in through the turnstiles, like I said I'm hoping wilky gets something sorted as he's no spring chicken himself? Come on John the bet thing you could do now is sort out our long term future.

| Who in their right mind would buy a team in SL ?
It has little exposure is only played in a small part of the country and even the best supported teams get a max of 20K only for big games.
Warrington hit lucky with Moran as he is a RL fan who happens to have a lot of spare cash.
No rich Arab or Russian is going to invest as RL is not a global brand which can spread their name.
Wilkinson wants to sell but there is no one coming knocking at his door and I dont think he expects them to.
Unless there is a miracle and a rich RL supporting Salfordian comes along then we are going to be in the same situation for years to come.

| Wonderful logic lance as ever - so you take the place of your Australian mate and work for nowt and then you arrange all the players contracts, sort out all the travel & training arrangements, attend all training sessions for the first team and the Under 20s, have multi meetings with scouts, attend all the amateur games available in the time permitted, meet with parents of all the Under 20s teams, sort out Doctors rosters, attend all Board Meetings, liaise with the Sale set up, go to Red Hall to discuss refereeing, also go there with players carded or on Report - etc etc
So in your world you will do all these jobs for nothing - so thats a starter - now - another £350k to find - your call.............if you have time after doing those jobs!

Loving the little tantrum there lol.
And it's not my job to find a financial backer for the club, that's Wilkinsons role surely, and what your not getting is if Salford did spend upto the cap and become successful you would see a return most definately. That's the one thing most people in Salford have never seen, a successful Salford team!

| When we were successful in the 70's we still only got 6500 -7000 average crowds, and Snape sold the Willows variety centre and the club at the end of the 70's because despite all this success both were leaking money and the players were only part timers. Wilky tried to bring back the Willows VC to its former glories but acts got dearer and people wouldn't pay so there was never any real revenue coming in and as we progressed in the new century the crowds got smaller and the venue was only used a couple of nights a week, in the 70's it was open every night with a big name playing there.
The Salford millionaires are not interested in Rugby League, all we can hope for is for one of the faithful to drop £100m on the Euro lottery and invest in the club.

To be fair Pev the 70's were a terrible time for Rugby League crowds everywhere, Leeds, Wigan etc were getting 3/4k at many times, so ours we're comparable to the big gates today we were just unfortunate to be sucessful during a bad time.

| But Wigan and Leeds were not that good in the 70's. and Leeds crowds built up with the demise of Leeds United, Wigans by going full timt 10 years before anybody else.

I was using them as examples, you can add Saints, Warrington, Widnes or whoever but crowds in the 70's were poor across the board, I think Chico or Walshy had some stats on that?

Crowds were comparatively low across the board in the early 70s. In retrospect, Salford crowds were way above average. Sadly I don't know how to inflate the figure to a contemporary average.
If you take the 1973 Kangaroos tour as an example of the top-end attendance certain clubs could achieve, Salford compared well. In fact, more turned up for the game at The Willows than the first and third tests:
[code30/09/73 Salford 12 - 15 Australia 11,064
03/10/73 Wakefield Trinity 9 - 13 Australia 5,863
07/10/73 Dewsbury 3 - 17 Australia 5,685
10/10/73 Castleford 10 - 18 Australia 2,419
14/10/73 Widnes 10 - 25 Australia 5,185

24/10/73 Cumberland 2 - 28 Australia 3,666
28/10/73 Bradford Northern 14 - 50 Australia 5,667

Leeds won the cup in '77 & '78 and were beaten finalists in '71 & '72. They won the Championship in '72 (after having won it in '69) and lost in the final in '73. They also won countless Yorkshire Cups, floodlit trophies and beat us in the Regal Trophy Final in '72 and knocked us out of the cup in '74 and '75. I wish we'd been 'not that good' in the 70s. KOTS is right about RL attendances in the 70s. The sport nearly died.
