So do I.... I know Simon... and know his family.... they are a really great bunch of people and don't deserve this.

Simon and his family have been around the Cadishead Rhinos for a long time... and the feeling within the club is very sad at the moment.

The Cadishead Rhinos juniors are playing in the curtain raiser to the game on Friday... so it would be quite apt to do this.

Lets hope if they do then the effort is better than last time

Yeah, they said they were going to do the minutes silence the week after they botched it up. I was listening out for it at the Catalan game and they never did it. I thought it was quite bad of them. I for one hope they do a minutes silence. My little brother is in Afghan at the moment and it really brings it home to you, it's that bad at the moment I can't watch or listen to the news. The lads out there are doing an amazing job, don't get me wrong I don't want them to be out there, but my brother and his mates out there just get on with it.

Coming from Cas where we've had the two recent funerals of local lads my sympathy goes out to his family & friends. RIP.

a real Salford Hero, just shows we moan about nothing really compared to what some of our young kids are doing today, tomorrow and for years to come.

Simon was truly a great bloke. Was lucky enough to be in the same class all the way through high school. He got married in February and was the happiest he has ever been.

So, so tragic and as a Salford fan ( along with Cadishead) it would be fitting if the club could do something for this hero

It's very very sad,

I don't know about anyone else but when you see programmes like Ross Kemp: I was astonished at how professional these very young men are and how they go about their business.

The poor families.

We have had our two lads in the forces and have got another family member currently in Afghanistan. It must be awful when you get that knock on the door.

It makes us realise how fortunate we were that it never came to knock on our door.

I've just been informed by the club that they are unable to organise a minutes silence on Friday but they will be mentioning Simon in the match programme on Friday

That's a shame, but I'm glad they've tried and also that he'll be acknowledged in the prgramme.

Both Castleford and Hull KR have had similar tributes along with the last post in the past couple of weeks to remember all our brave lads.

how much organising does it take to stop for 1 min before the game to pay respect, i'm sure the flames wouldnt mind 1 less dance and its not as if we have mass entertainment proir to the game.sorry but thats not an excuse'we haven't got time'...

I'm disappointed that the club cannot do this. Maybe I'm a bit close to everything to be completely understanding as to why this couldn't happen... but surely it's a case of telling the match officials... who inform both teams. The only other people who need to know is the person on the microphone (Paul M) who needs something to read out... and the match commissioner.

Cadishead Rhinos will certainly be holding a minute silence before our friendly this weekend... would have been nice to see the City's only professional club do the same for a fallen hero of our city.

Excuse my probable total ignorance on this but...
Players come out stand in the centre circle, and then the spectators and players stand for a minutes silence to show our respect to a brave local lad who died fighting for his country.
I do not think this is too much for the club to arrange.

It might be worth checking what's actually involved in organising a minute's silence before assuming that the club are in the wrong over this.

The club have to write to R.F.L to get permission for the minutes silence, & when that is agreed then the Ref's boss to be informed & then the ref. When they all agree, they then have to ask the opposing team's officials/coach's to ok it. Its not just a matter of "ok, we will do it" from the club, its like everything, there is certain protocol to adhere to.

Would have been a nice gesture but, as posted, just not a case of doing it.

but was just wondering if a member of the royals or a leading politician was to die between now and Friday would the R F L and the clubs be able to ignore it because we have R F L protocol and if the club do it without permission then wouldn't the R F L look stupid if they punished a club for showing respect to a local hero.

Is it the same department who look at players documentation, or is it the department to employ somebody pushing paper around a desk.
Surely in this day and age the use of email would quicken up this process unless the RFL has not got email yet!
