| 100 % from the coach would help
I expected a poor start but not a total mockery, but the two teams who beat us one beat Wigan at Wigan the week before and the other put 48 past Warrington the week after, and because of injury John Kerr had to really work on his replacements adapting a new game play through the night, unfortunatley McRae has some sort of Plan A and thats it regardless, he is unable to think underpressure and just carries on blindly.

| I want to see a Salford team that does not persist with one man rugby.
A coach who has the guts to drop underperforming players.
And finally players who want to play for the club.

I expected that we would compete for 80 minutes.
Not for a moment did I think we wouldn't be in for pastings from Leeds, Saints etc., but I honestly thought we'd be giving Wakefield and Castelford a game.
I was stood with a bunch of Cas fans on Saturday night and they were extraordinarily reasonable - pointing out how much they'd improved and how hard their first season back in SL had been - the question is, does our squad have the basic talent in it to be able to improve on their performances. So far (and YES I KNOW it's only 3 games) it seems we have gone backwards in each subsequent game.
Clearly Friday will be another yardstick - I suspect another loss, unless we can get up to the pace of SL, can the squad turn things around in 6 days? Big ask!
To be honest I've been most disappointetd with our forwards - to get back to Red Willow's question - what did I expect - I really thought we'd put together a pack that was capable of a really strong defensive showing and to date I'm very very wrong! (But then I'm not the coach - thank god!)

| What did I expect pre-season?
Many more defeats than victories.
Hammerings at Leeds, Saints, Bradford and the like.
Hit and miss games against Warrington, Cas, Wakey, Hudds, Quins, Celtic et al.
I think my expectations will be more than met
However, I also expected;
Pride in the shirt from all players,
100% Commitment to Salford from all players
100% Passion for the club from all players.
Looks like I am going to be disappointed

| Quote ="Red Willow"I've read the posts on here with interest and just wondered what were people expecting prior to the season starting?
Personally I thought it would take us 6 games or more to get up to speed in the league. I thought it would take the team a while to gel as a unit.
So far it seems to be the case, I thought we had more fight in us but the SL has moved on again since we were last here, we don't have the resources available to compete with most of the teams in SL.
What do I want to see?
Pride and passion in the shirt, honest endeavour even when we lose (which we will)'"
I personally expected that we would have four points up to now.
I also expected and heard John from Salford on Radio Manchester.
I expected that our pack would handle the other forwards better than they have.
I expected more complaints than we have had over the last two games against Wakefield and Castleford considering the performances.
I expected and it was delivered for the handful of not so young yobs to let things rip when things did not go to plan.
As I am on holiday when we play Wigan at home I fully expect that we will win as we always beat Wigan when I am away and John from Salford will be on again saying that Noble should be sacked.

| I expected that as the season went on we would start to pick up the pace of Super league after a year playing a much lower standard of rugby in NL1. Its a frightening jump and i dont think we have adjusted just yet. I expected it to take six or more games before we found out if our young players could step up and if our new players gel. I expected to lose both our first two away games but win the opener. I expected low home crowd numbers early on given our first two opponents and also to get stick on the message boards for our crowds. I expected to be competative and have been shocked at how easily we lost those two away games. I expected that Bomber would get everyone in the squad involved at some point in the first six games or so given that we cannot get relegated. I expected that overall our season would contain some major thumpings from the top sides the occasional unexpected victory and i expected we would finish 12th or lower.
Now how much of that has or is going to happen im not sure but getting beaten away by good sides like Cas and Wakefield should not have drawn the kind of criticism it has and would not have if we had performed better. i have not seen those games but i trust the comments of people who have seen us and are less than enamoured by our efforts so far. Even if their is no relegation a season of potential thumpings is not going to encourage new supporters and may well put off some of the old stagers. I like the comparison with Cas from last year, having no fear of relegation allowed them to blood youngsters and it looks like paying off for them. I reserve judgement on our Coach as i have stated i believe it may take six or more games for us to find our feet. If after that time we have continued to get thumped then he may come under a lot of pressure.

| I hope we have risen to the expected pace after a few games too mate but the manner of these two defeats has shown a lot more than the actual margin of defeat. We seem clueless tackling or with the ball. IMHO Wakey are a good, solid team who will do well and Cas have come on in leaps and bounds and are a decent team BUT we should, as professionals, be competing in games and we most definitely are not.

| I expect to see our players play with pride & passion & apart from the first game I have sadly not.
I expect to finish in the bottom four by the end of the season & will be plesently suprised if we are higher!
I want to see a coach who inspires me or at least makes me feel we are making progress, yet todate even in National league 1 he has not!
I expect to get beat far more than we will win but in them games we get beat at least compete.
I don't expect to see my team third game into the new season look clueless against an average team.
I suppose in my heart of heart I expect to have the same old same old!

Can't believe the reaction on here to 2 poor results.

| Before the start of the season I felt Salford needed at least three points from the first four games. (Still on course for it.) Purely because it's the 'easiest' extended run of games we have all season. I wasn't expecting much from the defence because Salford didn't do the job well last year either.

| I expect to see with 3 years of no worries of relegation to see what the whole point of this franchising system is all about!A salford team full of young local lads coming through and showing grit and determination and pride in wearing the salford shirt come win or lose!!!
Not a load of has been semi super league standard players using us as a retirement home to keep the pennies coming in until its time for em to get normal warehouse job, when there use by date expires!....and also a load of aussie imports who are deemed not good enough for nrl but in steve simms eyes (after his recruitment holidays) gonna set super league on fire!
As a season ticket holder of 4 seasons(i know some can say longer)ive already paid my way for this year, but if i was a £17 paying spectator every other week i'd get more enjoyment seeing the likes of lewis palfry, spencer, ratchford ,walton and co giving it there all than the misery of the last 2 away games.I like many didn't relly expect us to be coming bck over the hills with the points in the bag,but was seriously tempted to do one at half time in the last 2 games watching the half hearted poop that we have witnessed!
I'd love to know what goes on in mr Mcraes training sessions!!as ero lessons were learnt against cas from the previous week against wakey!

Agreed. I'd go further. I expected most Salford fans to understand that stepping up a division in any sport is difficult and takes time. The squad we had last year didn't become world beaters the minute we got the nod for a franchise. If after ten games we're still looking off the pace then by all means stay away/protest/post angry stuff on here but give McRae and the team a proper go of it first.

| The reaction is nothing to do with two poor results; the reaction is about two shockingly inept performances - we are quite used to defeat.

The glass is half-full when you look at it that way!
Is anyone else getting a bit miffed with this "Super League pace" excuse? Whilst I accept that teams in SL do play at a higher tempo than NL, given that a lot of our squad has a lot of SL & NRL experience (as was posted elsewhere) - it shouldn't take that long to get back to the pace we should be at, should it? (considering we were only in NL for 1 year and we have played 3 friendlies against SL opposition which should have helped bridge the 'pace' gap, and whilst not wishing to disrepect Cas & Wakey, they weren't exactly at the top end of the table last year)
Maybe it's just cos I was disappointed that the SL experience we had in our squad last year couldn't dictate games to be played in NL at 'SL pace' given our full-time status

| I am one of the posters who have cited "SL Pace" as a problem for us and something we have not yet adjusted to and its more of an observation than an excuse for getting hammered. It is not the sole cause of all our ills but i do believe has contributed. When i talk of pace i dont just mean the physical side of the game i also mean speed of thought. I agree we have experienced SL and NRL players individually but the "team" has some inexperienced players too and until we are running and thinking at SL pace we will look disjointed. Speed of thought is crucial in all aspects of the game, spotting the gaps picking the man to tackle etc all are helped by marrying speed of movement with speed of thought. Ultimately its no use being the fastest strongest runner or best tackler if you never get into the positions to use those skills. Just my honest opinion and observation.

| I guess Super League pace is just this seasons excuse, waiting for the pitches to firm up is sooooo 2007.
In all seriousness, all I have ever asked is for every player to give 100% for 80minutes. If we get beat by a better team with better players then so be it, but you can't ask any more.
What I expected is exactly what is happening, I've followed Salford long enough to have seen it all before. Nothing that club does could surprise me now, if a flying saucer landed at half time I wouldn't bat an eyelid.

| I expected:
The new signings to be an improvement on previous overseas players.
To win the first game.
Achieve a competitive showing in the next two.
Beat Quins at home.........
Up to now I'm disappointed to say the least. However for some strange reason I think we still might win on Friday. If so, things may suddenly seem a lot brighter.
I expect I'll continue to be optimistic over the Club's future despite evidence to the contrary
........and the two football fans I'm taking to see Salford v Wigan for their first game of rugby to LOVE IT!!!!
