| Well its Saturday night and I am stuck in at home and being slightly boring teaching maths and all that I thought I would do a lesson about the different forms of average there are and decided to use Salford as an example, yawn yawn
pay attention at the back
I have not included the shindig in Edinburgh
Number of home Matches =9
Total official attendance = 41,123
Mean Average 41123/9 = 4569
Median Average = middle figure when in size order = 4165 against Hull
Range Highest Crowd - Lowest Crowd
= 7016 (Wigan) - 3367 (Harlequins)= 3649
Money through the gate if we assume average cost of £13.50 per person to get in.
Total 41123 x £13.50 = £555160.50
match day average 4569 x £13.50 = £61681.5
which is not a lot to run a team on.

The Bus is worse on a sunday but the two routes from Eccles means that there are about 5 bus routes which run near the ground which is better than the 1 route from Salford to Old Trafford.
Second lowest crowd of the season last night 80 more than the Harlequins match.

| who can honestly blame people for not turning up with a clueless coach and a team full of grade e aussie imports playing boring lack lusture rugby!fair enough i dont think we can honestly moan about our first season back in super league,as barr from the first 6 disaster matches at the start of the season we have actualy competed in most games and going into the last ten mins we cud have still turned many games,we havent been hammered score wise but the type of rugby played this season has been far from entertaining!!standing in the shed most games and looking around u see folk drifting off from the game talking bout how they had a lovely day out walking the dogs, moaning bout there other half and where there going after the game!!
cum on slug listen to what the fans are saying as you do have decent players available to you, just playing the right team, positions and tactics is all thats required!!

| Would be interesting if anyone did a comparison between our Friday night Attendances and the last time we played Superleague Sunday afternoons.
Friday Nights, imo, was a bad idea from the start. Less away fans (Especially Yorkshire based) due to traffic/work problems. People not wanting to wonder around Weaste after dark on a Friday. Families that need to have kids in bed. Etc etc.
The original reasoning was said to give the team a training advantage, which of course has been a resounding success looking at all our home victories...

| See we have won something this season (unless the joint holders Whingeton and Whinegan have a late strop about their respective coaches).
Friday night attracts sponsors and business visits ... Sunday does not. These bring in more money than speccies. This has been the foundation of all professional sports for nearly 40 years.

Get people buying in advance then they are committed to turning up.

You could be right "Early Bath"
I think Salford City Reds should make this game 'FREE ENTERANCE'
Just as an experiment to see how many speckys we could attract to a game.
Just a thought......

A large part of the decision to move to Friday night matches was to accommodate corporate sponsorship. With the majority of Lancashire-based Super League clubs playing their home fixtures on a Friday night too, it also seems to be a major consideration elsewhere.
Seemingly, the income and kudos from corporates outweighs that of paying supporters from Yorkshire and further afield.
Quote ="TheButcher"Would be interesting if anyone did a comparison between our Friday night Attendances and the last time we played Superleague Sunday afternoons.'"
It wouldn't be a fair comparison because for much of the time where we've played on Fridays, Salford have had a team worth going to see — and that's what it comes down to: if a match is a spectacle people [iwant[/i to see, people [iwill[/i attend.
I remember someone saying to me that football supporters don't complain when they have to go to areas similar to Weaste — Goodison Park for example — because they want to be there, nay [ihave[/i to be there. Salford's challenge to produce a team, matchday experience, whatever, to make people want to attend.
Quote ="Karlos13"Should be £15 on the gate, £10 in advance. Get people buying in advance then they are committed to turning up.'"
And abolish all, or at least the vast majority of the freebies. I'd go for that; I suppose we all would with us being paying speccys. The worry for the club is whether the only people taking up the discounted offer are those who already pay £15/£17 every week.

don't normally do it on a Saturday unless wrong change from the bar so it is a first for me, but it has brought out some debate and all because I was bored and completing some new lessons with local interest to the flock i have in Bolton. Might get them interested in getting to Salford to watch Rugby, some of them travel to St Helens

| I had to work on Friday night and for the first time ever couldn't give away my season ticket!
Why? Floating supporters don't want to see a meaningless game in a poor stadium, especially when the weather is so bad.
AND the most we have scored in a home game was against Celtic (I think) in our first game. 28 points. So if the game is played on a Friday or Sunday we are still very boring to watch.

I must be the only person who thinks that the difference in away support would be pretty negligible. Let's face it, the biggest away followings are likely to be Saints, Wigan and Warrington, and these don't tend to be affected too much by Friday nights. Granted, there may be some mileage in terms of Leeds and the Gruesome Twosome, but even then we're only talking in terms of maybe a couple of hundred speccies apiece.
General apathy is running right through the league, so for Salford to post an increase in crowds this year is pretty good going IMHO.

Rather than argue your point, as it's pretty sound, it does make me feel rather down-hearted as a RL fan.
The fact that it seems to be bringing in sub-standard investment/business that seems (And I stress this as I see no other alternative) to be bringing nothing to the advancement of Salford RLFC, why bother?
It's all very well attracting sub-standard investors to the club, and it is full of those, but the so-called "Speccies" make up the financial backbone of the Club. Fridays do more harm than good. Just look at it!
We are a Club hanging onto what we have. I'd love to be proved wrong, but I aint yet...

Spot on.
Travelling over from over the Pennines it's £17 on the train, then £17 on the gates, a few quid on the metrolink, a few beers and you're looking at £50 minimum to end up probably disappointed. If I could buy in advance I'd move some shifts around and get a cheap train ticket a few months in advance too so it's locked in my calendar and then try to persuade some mates to come along as well. The weather doesn't seem to have helped this year either if I remember right. Bit gutted having looked at my rota that as things look I won't get to the Willows this season.
