| It definately looks a very useful squad, very youthful, very hungry lets hope with a years extra experience in superleague our younger players of last year can bring on the new youth to simular levels they achieved

| Anyone know anything about the contracts of the players I've got in bold at the moment. I'm assuming that they're all pretty much here next season so either they've signed new ones or I was just wrong about the years....?

Im not, if someone could work out the average age of that squad, Alker, Littler and Talau are the only over 30's in the squad
Which could work in our favour, The rest are young hungry players with point to prove, And alot of them have been discarded by other Clubs and will want to repay our faith. And if it works then other youngsters from other clubs will see our club as a place where youth will be given its oppertunity
With them all being young their experiance will be limited yes, but fitness will be on our side, Youth has proven that they play with no fear so big away games we wont see as different from others they will hopefully relish the occasion lets just hope they are told to play like we know they can at times during the last campaign

I agree totally, lots of people getting all negative about our transfer dealing, players who are youthful have uaually not achieved anything in the game, we at salford city reds are giving them the chance to perform at the highest level with others who are in the simular position, surrounded by legends in the game like alan hunte and shaun mcrae passing on their knowledge who knows where we can go
Add to the fact the stadium is coming with the majority of the squad young and hungry we could in theory in 5 years be competing at the very top level week in week out.
all we need is a hero, somebody to take us to that next level, he might be already here he might be on his way we shall wait and see

I see the only problem being we don't have a leader on the park besides Alker, with Paul gone and now that time is taking it's toll on Mal we face the prospect of having periods of the game when we have no leader on the park, for me we need a old head second row in the Cartwright/Panapa mold to come on, steady the ship and use nowse as much as brute force.

I know what you mean MR, we have never replaced clinch or dunnerman in that department, that leader or hero is the only thing we are lacking imo.
Its ok havin the likes of alker and parker who will run his blood to water and swain and adamson who will tackle and drive it in till they cant walk anymore, the difference is having someone when the chips are down and its all or nothing on that play :
1) makes the right decition underpressure, how many times does a half break petterout because the ball carrier looks the wrong way, loses it underpressure in a tackle or runs back into a tackle rather than away.
2) has the ability to eather deliver the right ball, collect that pass to send him over to win us the game or make that tackle which swings the momentum of the game back in our favour, it seems to me when the pressure is on the basics are forced because some of our players doesnt believe in their own ability, i have one thing to say about that your a professional rugby player who at one point in your career delt with that pressure thats why you became professional unlike the rest of us who didnt because you are good at what you do.
ive said it before we have a few players who when switched on takes us to the next level, we dont have the money to buy a hero so we need one who is already here to go and stay at that next level.

Exactly, we need a focal point with that bit of class to snatch the numerous narrow margin defeats and turn them into draws or wins.
Sorry but we have an overseas spot still available i'd look to Australia for someone who's looking for one last year or maybe two to come over and offer that, be they a scrum half, stand off or may be a ball playing second rower.
For me someone who could have played the last 20/25 minutes of a game who has the ability to create havock has just signed for Bradford in Sculthorpe, may not be everyones cup of char but you know he is the best ball playing prop in SL and a very gifted player.

I think the reason Alker is such an insparational leader is because he is salford through and through we gave him his chance when he was young and he has rewarded us with his career. The point im making a leader in this mould cannot just be bought from aus, maybe they will have the experiance but not the heart like alker does, in the past 10 years if we had 17 players with alkers passion for the club then we would be far better of as a whole maybe that is the reason we have bought young, so they can mature as a team together and hopefully the likes of Adamson and Ratchford who will, providing they dont get sold be the back bone of our team for years to come
In our squad we have, Fitzpatrick, Littler, Parker, ALker, Talau, Sibbit and Phil Coupled with the aus class from Henry, Swain and Cashmere, Throw in Mcgilvery, Ratch, M Smith, Gibson, Adamson, Jewitt and Possible Boyle I think we have a very exciting squad all with something to prove, Especially considering Fitz, Littler, Sibbit all playing for new deals next season

Not really. I knew next year was going to be tougher than last as the financial climate was always going to hit us harder than most due to the way we pay our bills, ie, sponsorship.
Its not all bad news though. If anything an opportunity. We have a younger squad who will only improve throughout the year. Also, we have 3 cracking players on long term deals who individually bring a lot to the Salford party. Cashmere, heaps of experience and certainly not over the hill. Now that Stapo's gone and he's had a year to get to know the club, he can be a real leader. Expect a big year... We have Ratchford who lived under the shadow of Myler for a long time but flourished after he'd gone and will surely get a start at half back this year. ... And, Luke Adamson. I couldn't believe his progress when I returned from Aus at the start of July. Synonymous with the improving nature of a young squad, he'll only get better!!! The future's bright, the future's red...

Sorry but if Fitzy and Littler are still good enough for our first 17 next season we have progressed not one jot, Littler may have the heart but the talent has never been there and each year he becomes that little bit more inaffective, and Fitzy well i'm sorry but since his first serious injury for me he has been a shadow of his former self and a target for others and therefore a liability for the team.
No you have the cussion on two more years with no relegation we need to get a good young fullback in and stick with him and see who of all the options we have in the centres best fits the teams needs - for me Henry and Talau are the obvious centres as both are very talented and sure up the flanks.

| Talk on the Hull board that you have signed G Horne.
Broughton will be a decent signing for you, impressed me while on loan at Hull. Good attack, needs a bit of work on positioning in defence though.

Would be a good signing imo, hooker/halfback good pair of hands and a bit of a brain still only young will certainly add that extra we are looking for.

Nice to see we are replacing like for like...... one ginge for another!
Not seen much of the lad but I'm more than happy to give him the benefit of the doubt as he adds to the list of young prospects we have in the squad. If the additional youngsters in the squad can develop the way that Adamson & Ratchford have over the last 12 months we could have a cracking team in 2/3 years time.

As you probably are already aware - most Cas fans are gutted about this.
All I'd say is be patient with him.
All you are guaranteed to begin with is a really hard-worker.
In the long-run the sky is the limit - I think it will bite us back big-time - would be surprised if he wasn't a top SL prop within the next 3-5years.
Really hope he goes well for you guys.
