| Meant to be running 12 months behind least it's all dependent on the bridge as without it it's a road going nowhere,

| First post so please be kind! Bridge is at least a year behind schedule. I have scoured the web, most of the links from Urbanvision and Salford Council to this project are now dead. They appear to be have started driving piles for the bridge a few weeks ago........

To cross the Ship Canal and join the road that feeds to the Trafford Centre/Motorway from the Chill Factor and Soccerdome.
Until it is built the new road past the stadium is basically a very high spec cul-de-sac.
When I crossed Barton Bridge a couple of weeks back there was a crane doing some work on the Trafford side of the canal.

| Just had a conversation with a friend who say's he's read that Ikea are interested in building next to the stadium.
Pretty sure this would bring added exposure for the club but anyone who's been anywhere near an Ikea on a Saturday/Sunday will know it's just utter bedlam getting in and out and would surely put a huge strain on the new infrastructure. Though I would think a big name like that with the huge numbers who would visit might have a favorable influence on the proposed Metrolink extension.

| I have it on good authority that whoever has done the calcs for the bridge has done it wrong.
They want it to pass under the fly over but has to be high enough to pass a large boat under but also accept a truck / lorry over it,
and supposedly the bridge they were working on /up to does not do both!
along with the wind loadings.

I heard that no big ships will pass under the bridge anymore. In the Port Salford plans it shows a large excavated turnaround area for this. (On opposite bank to stadium side) It figures because there wouldn't be any need for large ships to travel beyond the new port. Furthermore it would be more economical and less time consuming than having to travel a few miles to the quays to simply turnaround.

As I understand it, it was always to be a lift bridge of some description. While ships at the new port will turn there several large ships still travel on a regular basis to Eccles (eg the chemical plants beside centenary bridge). How they planned to create such a bridge 5 lanes wide ( 4 traffic 1 potential tram) I never was able to discover.

| Had a conversation with someone who works at the stadium months ago and was told there was issues with the bridge.
I think they have started the piling but it's months (if not a year) behind schedule, without it the rest of the construction in the area can't start as it is written into the planning application that the roads must be complete before any further construction can start.
What is a pity is that there is no way to link the new road too Peel Green roundabout, would help reduce traffic somewhat.
Can't for the life of me see any benefit to game day traffic unless you're heading off towards Irlam and on towards Warrington. Coming back towards Salford is still using the same network.

I always thought the access at the roundabout was just purely going to be to the motorway, you would think that getting that section of it built would be be a priority, would go a big way too easing access issues.

Sorry, thought access to the motorway at Peel Green was what you meant.
When phase two does get built (which will be after the bridge) cars will be able to get straight on the M60 at Peel Green to Eccles, Worsely, Swinton, Prestwich etc.
You'll also be able to go over the bridge and through Trafford Park to Centenery Bridge (for Eccles, Pendleton) or on to Salford Quays and town.
People going to Peel Green and Patricroft can still go down Liverpool Road but it should a lot quieter.
But It does look like it will be a while before we see any big changes.

| I've spent way too much time trying to work it out ( as I do the commute from Irlam to Trafford daily) and it still confuses me! After phase I the new road will join an all ready conjested roundabout at the Trafford Centre, which will be great on quiet weekdays, but as both Reds and Sharks now play mainly at weekends not sure how it will help match traffic. On the other hand regulars will find new routes via Trafford park by car and it puts a few more pubs around TC within walking distance. Phase II is paid for by Peel and only when development of the port reaches a certain level, so anyone's guess when that happens. Doesn't effect me on match days but I do think when the bridge is completed (despite above) it will help lots. Also I read ( on official gov sites (must be lies) the delay in the bridge was because the structural engineers decided they needed more data on possible effects the new bridge would have on foundations of Barton Flyover ( why they didn't consider that in the last 8 years of planning?) . As I said earlier I had a quiet Christmas so was bored and what I read maybe rubbish.

| The 'A and B' roads are purely link roads to the roundabout to bypass Peel.
Road 'C' is the only slip road.

Peel's bid to amend its planning permission for the new £138m rail, road, and shipping terminal, currently under construction at Barton, has sparked a furious response from local councillors....

Hopefully the road and rail link won't just get forgotten about!

Not entirely sure what the fuss is about, they are doing what any service provider would do in that situation IE do their best to try and facilitate a prospective client as quickly as possible. Forgetting about the multimodal links for the site is never going to happen as it is one of the main selling points of the whole project, it just so happens Peel have a prospective client that wants to start using the venue before that is fully in place.
I can hear the Garrido woman de icing the soap box as we speak, if it upsets her I'm all for the idea.

| It's just been announced that the funding for the Metrolink to now extend too the Trafford Centre has been approved and will be finished by 2019, should in conjunction with the new road and bridge make getting to games much easier.
Though we might all have Jetsons style hover cars by then

| The stadium should never have been built until the roads and instrastrucutre was complete. It was the RFL that said we had to move unless we would lose our Super League license. Now we see Cas and Wakey still playing in there sheds and you now no longer need a decent ground to play in the Super League.
