Neil Barker has said in todays' M.E.N that Rangi Chase is coming on board for next year. Does this mean it's a done-deal or are one of the bigger clubs going to swipe him from under our red noses? I personally think that signing Chase would be a massive turning point, if we can get him then who knows who we might be able to sign in the future!

It also says in another article that we are signing a couple of young lads who've been going well at Batley, sounds like a decent move.

I must admit I read the article too and couldn't work out whether it was a done deal or merely speculation.

I think he'd be a great signing and will give us the creativity that we've been desperately lacking this season. I remember when we played Cas at home a few months ago, he completely run the show and pretty much won the game on his own.

That second link is an absolute beauty.

If we sign Chase I would say that it would arguably be Salford biggest signing since Steve Nash joined us in the summer of 1975 for a world record transfer fee. Yes we have had some big high profile names over the past 38 years but with respect they were all past their peak.

I wasn't his biggest fan I preferred Gibbo's unpredictability and elusiveness with ball in hand for entertainment. A class player but I don't think we saw him play to his full potential in an average at best Salford team.

It certainly does. The best player in the World in his pomp. But, it was always a short-term deal and that way it was easier for us to pull in big names: Neil Baker, Geoff Selby etc.

I’m too young to remember Garry Jack, so I would have to say Gavin Clinch (at the time what with relegation was a cracking signing) and Andrew Dunneman is certainly up there. Shows how tough we’ve had it that we’re scraping the barrel with these names though.

Not old enough to remember Watkins, Gill etc but could confidently say Rangi would comfortably eclipse any signing in my lifetime.

I know I'm boring as I always say it but when he half killed Critchely playing for Keighley it was worth whatever Wilky paid for him.

I'd say the era of Watkins Richards Fielding Coulman etc was you're most exciting

I'm excited at the prospect of seeing Chase in a red shirt more than I have been at seeing any potential new player in longer than I can remember.
My only reservation is who will play in the halves with him, Theo is extremely talented but I wonder if both are too similar in their off the cuff approach.

A position I have too admit I'm happy to contemplate and one I didn't ever expect to see at the turn of the year.

On your original point. I actually think young Theo would be a good foil for Rangi at first receiver and will benefit greatly from a dominant pack.
