Salford City Reds have announced that David Tarry is leaving the Club due to redundancy.

Christ he's just joined the gym so that's a bugger for him



Very important bit of recruitment for someone, wonder if this is anything to do with when the club had a firm in annalising things a couple of months ago?

Erm. You can't make a person redundant as such, you make a post redundant. Are we intending to work with out a CEO?

Indeedy. And I thought SL clubs were [irequired[/i to have a CEO, earning a minimum of...whatever it was.

Well I certainly didn't see this coming. Not that I'm complaining mind!!

This does for me highlight how bad things must be financially at the club though if we're making people redundant!!!

Now we can have a REAL street party.

Can't see the club paying him off if there wasn't someone already lined up to replace him - isn't he a director also?.

People have their wish now he's gone let's hope they give the new person more support than most seemed willing to give Tarry.

Just a thought with the renegotiation of the rental terms would that be something he would have had a direct hand in? maybe he's been found wanting for the contract he agreed to?

Again, he can't be [ireplaced[/i as such, because it's the [irole[/i that's made redundant, not the person.

The only possible exception to this (and I'm not entirely sure) is if he [ivolunteered[/i to be made redundant and the company agreed. In this case, he can be replaced by someone else [ifrom within the company[/i whose role would otherwise have been made redundant.

At least that's how it was explained to me when I left wage slavery behind earlier this year.

If that's the case could surely only be Simms, surely they will do what other companies do in this case and reinvent the wheel and give the position another name.

Steve Simms might be the way it goes. The sight of lancetodd's head spinning round, Exorcist style, might be enough to put a few hundred on the gate.

I think it's one of two scenarios:

1) they'll create a new post called MD or similar with a slightly altered job spec.
2) there was something in the press last week related to the stadium rent that said the council or SMC would have more input in to the running of the club (my t'interweb connection is too slow for me to be d finding it right now). Perhaps the responsibilities will be assumed by someone at the council.

Either way right now I couldn't give a chuff, best thing to happen to Salford in 10 years!

I'd be thinking more along the lines of Peel sending someone their way rather than the council as surely with it be a public servant they wouldn't be allowed to work a private entity? Either way a more professional approach to matters behind the scenes looks likely which can only be a good thing in the long run.

Another option here is that there is someone new buying into the club and they have said that they don't want him involved, as I said before there was a team looking over how things are done at the club and if their findings are that Tarry was deadwood surely any new investor/owner will want to act on those findings?.

About time Tarry has gone useless waste of space.

Seems we really are up street money wise.

1) Tax bill and banning of signing players

2) PV quoted as saying 'we're scouring the world for value players' which in essence means “Crap players that nobody else wants”

3) The rent having to be lowered.

4) Then phrases like today in the Sun last week “Doubts arose over the Reds’ viability for 2013.

And now making people redundant, it isn't looking good.

I would hope this is part of the club's re-structuring prior to investment by other parties. If Dave Tarry's job has disappeared then that suggests re-structuring. We will see.

If Peel have insisted on more of a hands-on, if we are linking to Sale, if we are working more on a shoe-string ... well none of these are attractive future possibilities.

Red John is correct on posts and redundancies.

You certainly have to question why an organisation the size of SCR need a Chairman, Chief Exec, Director of Rugby, Finance director etc etc - to some degree its a question of how many of those roles are fulltime, but I sincerely hope that this is a properly thought out restructuring rather than a panic cost-cutting

On the legalities of redundancy can you make a full time post redundant and replace it with a part time one?
