Where is everyone congregating in the new stadium?

I'm a persistent stander and can't image watching salford any other way so ill be using the facility behind the goal

But I have spoken to a few and this dilemma runs deep ill tell you...

Myself and the few lads I go to home games with have gone for the South stand as in the summer you will have the setting sun behind you, I'd guess that the North stand is where most visiting fans will congregate.
Did get told in the shop that the South stand is where most ex shed dwellers are heading, you can though change at any point in the season if you don't like it.

I'd guess East or West, very much doubt it would be in the main stand?

Yeah need to know this as well. You have to state your stand on the new application form.

No the north stand is to your left if you were sat in the biggest main stand where the hospitality is, you'll have the sun directly in your eyes for long periods stood in that stand. I asked the girls in the shop which was the stand most were going for and they pointed out the one I expected them too rather than me ask was it the South stand.

I hadn't realised the earths axis had moved so much? Better go check my compass or might not be able to find my way home tonight!

I don't have any promo stuff but guess that couldn't be trusted anyway. However the last time I checked the big main stand was facing south so yes it would be the north stand.

West stand is the big stand. In summer the sun sets in the north west, so south and east stands will have it in their faces (though south stand will probably be in the shadow of west stand anyway). The bumf that was sent out earlier this year to existing season tickets detailing the multi-year offer states (and I can scan if anyone wants):



So according to that the main home fans terrace (so I assume the "Shed End"icon_wink.gif is the north terrace, though home fans can buy in the south terrace if they prefer.

To the op , Sore subject with me . John Wilkinson at the end of season award night mentioned there would be an open day so supporters could pick their spot at Barton .its not happend for whatever reason which leaves me in a dilemma .Standing behind the sticks , possibly not a good view going off the size the terrace but more flexible regarding taking a mate along for game.Both stands along the wings offer a better view but you buy your season ticket and your assigned a seat, pre mentioned mate ends up on his lonesome elsewhere.

The two sentences are unrelated. I'm just stating what the big stand is called - I've not actually looked how it lines up to a compass - and stating which stands will have the sun in their faces on summer evenings as somebody raised it (if indeed those stands line up nicely with a compass like the Willows does).

Unless the compass on Google earth and the seperate app I have on the Eyefone is wrong it's pretty much dead on, was stood on the path at the canal side and checked and it's pretty acurate.

its important we get this nailed on as i fear we might get spread around the stadium too thinly which may effect the atmosphere

another factor in making the deciton is the big screen, i contacted the stadium management about this issue and i got this reply

"Re: the big screen, the design has been as such that it will be positioned in the SE corner so will be [size=150directly visible from all of the West and North Stands which are seen as the main home fan bases[/size… it will also be visible from East and South but with a less direct sight line naturally."

last thing we want is another issued we had in the shed when 90% of our support COULDNT SEE THE SCREEN when sky was there

Your right it needs to be sorted. The South is designated as away with a max of 1000 home allocated. The North that gets all the bad weather (moaning b')is for the shedheads. You couldn't make this up, if it was Cadbury's we'd all be up to our ears in chocolate.

Folks, my grade B Geography 'O' Level attained back in 1976 may be of no use here or not even relevant, but I've convinced myself that the big stand is the most Northerly, so shouldn't that be known as the North Stand ??

Jim, I think you are using Liverpool Road A57 as your reference for North, it isn't it runs SW. If in doubt use the application form which has the main stand as West. The question still remains where are the shed heads going? North or South?

I think you will find when we are half way through the season when were in the bottom 3 and relying on away support to bolster our attendances we might just fill half the main stand.and have the odd die hard red scattered around the poxy standing areas.,with the 2500 diehards clapping the chairman saying

Me too, my Geography 'O' Level came slightly later (1987). I based my point of reference as the ship canal and the north and south bound traffic on the M60. If it is indeed facing west I stand corrected, confused but corrected.

Ok, I've had another look at all the maps and info, and have determined the following.


As Iain states, the large stand is the West stand.
The stand behind the goals ([size=85and closest the the M60[/size) is the North stand.
[size=85North point of the build is where these 2 stands meet.[/size
If you choose the South stand ([size=85behind the goals[/size), the big screen will be over your right shoulder.
If you choose to go in the East stand, you will probably be looking into the setting sun. So, those who like to view the game from along the touchline would probably want to opt for the West stand.
So, for those not wishing to sit, it looks like behind the goalposts in the North stand will have a combination of a good view of the big screen and no setting sun in your eyes.
I think that's correct

OK, so we have arrived at a conclusion to the original question, if you want to stand in the official Reds end you stand in the North. Hallelujah.

p.s. unless of course you want to avoid the prevailing wind/rain or perhaps a bit of banter with the away support.
