I apologise if it is mentioned elsewhere, but I thought I'd open an old debate about what is happening next season with regards to this.

I've just noticed Hull are abandoning Friday nights after significant drops in attendances and consulting the fans. Link here -

Personally I think it would be financial suicide to have Friday nights at the new stadium. The Club has an opportunity to try and bring in new Families and supporters which could only realistically happen on Sundays. So was just wondering what Salford intends to do when we move?

Any other thoughts?

Big fan of the friday night rugby myself, but i dont think it will work at Barton with the extra travel time, people would have to rush from work to home then to the stadium. Think there will be a few that just think, "cannot be bothered tonight" so we would lose out.

Not quite sure what would happen in the rare occasions they remember Salford are a SL team though

Traffic alone on a Friday evening could be a big problem, but of course it will be down to the club to have the final say and I'm sure they will make the right decsion in the end. All I hope is when they do decide they stick to it!

Saturday tea time for me! Barton bridge will be at it's busiest on a Saturday with shoppers finishing and maybe people finishing up at OT if united kick off at three, which is rare, so with the floodlights on it might tempt some people to have a closer look! But generally the football is finished, Saturday night tv is pump and it's still early enough for families and I don't have to be up at 6 for work the next morning!

Big fan of sunday afternoons myself, dont have to rush home from work. Its a full family day out,Rugby League is better to watch in the sun than floodlights from a spectators point of view,The only negative i can forsee is a clash of fixture with mufc.Traffic would be caotic.

It has to be sunday rugby by a mile it will mean I see every game and buy a season ticket. Friday night rugby I feel puts a lot of people off no transport is one as after certain times also people working. We have had fridays for a few years now and to be honest I would say gates have dropped. I tthink it also will depend on sponsership and other factors. At least on a sunday afternoon you have a lot more people coming down from other clubs. We always had a good crowd sunday. Look at the warrington game at home we had a bumper gate. So I feel for club to survive they need to move. Again though will depend on money coming in.

I much prefer Friday night games but if moving to Sunday afternoons resulted in increased attendances and revenue for the club then I wouldn't complain

Think it would depend on the public transport situation, not entirely sure that the buses will run often enough if you say want to have a pint in the Harvester if it opens, last thing you need is to get stranded there and have to walk back towards Eccles.

Whatever brings the greatest commercial return from sponsors to pay our rent.

Sunday for me & if we want to attract more fans Sunday it must be.

As a young lad with no family i prefer Friday nights, you can go have a beer and not worry about work the next day i also think for some reason Friday nights at the willows is usualy a better atmoshpere.

Sunday would be the better option for work/traffic reasons,as the traffic on a Friday will be awful. If we want to increase attendances then Sunday has to be the choice.

Still whatever makes the most money with the corporate side will be the choice.

hopefully sundays for you lot as away support should be quite good but maybe in a few years a switch to fridays could be an option depending on crowds

Must be Sunday for me. To increase the crowd, we need to attract families to the new facilities. Location is also in favour of Sunday, no longer the pub/bus infrastructure. A pint and the sunshine in the new Willows - bring it on!

Is that the case for most young 'uns these days?

When I was "a young lad with no family" I preferred Sunday afternoon home matches.

Friday nights were for going out, often straight from work, and RL got in the way of that.

Sunday afternoons were boring and made for family-stuff, so RL filled that void perfectly for me.

My only concern with Sunday afternoons these days would be the popularity of the 4pm Premiership KO, especially with the regularity that it involves ManU.

Not really Friday at the Rugby with the lads is what i enjoy, just knowing i dont have work the next day is a massive plus for me. It also in a funny way saves me money just in the sense that if we did play on Sundays i would then have to go out three days of the weekend instead of just the two like now

Given the choice (and I know this is a shock to a lot of you) most will choose to either go to the football (soccer) or sit and home and watch it.
This is the reality of the area we are in.
Put the games to Sunday and you will be competing against United, City and also dont forget LCCC

Salford recently undertook a travel survey for the new Stadium but didn't ask the preferred kick off time ( Friday Eve, Saturday Eve, Sunday Afternoon ) .
obviously the Hull Fans survey was compelling enough for their new owner.

Friday's or Sundays were fine for me at the Willows as I had a Car park pass or could park within 5 minutes walk otherwise.

As Barton is a remote site, Sunday has to be the only serious option
long term football or not

This decision is a potential major headache for the club, both days have their fors and againsts.

Fridays no clash with the football being a major factor and the increased potential of the corporate sales, but on the down side attracting less spectators both home and away due to kick off time for logistc / traffic reasons.

Sundays better for fans to get to the ground, attract potential new fans and more away fans as they could have a day at the TC before the game, but as someone already mentioned this also has potential to clash with Manu so could end up being worse than a Friday for attracting home fans / traffic congestion.

All in all potential minefield for the club wouldn't like to be the person to make the decision.
But do you go fyou initially trying to increase revenue or trying to boost the club profile increasing crowds which is what could be the key to our franchise bid next time round.

Simple, don't set this in stone. If it's a local away team Fridays are good. If not put it on Sunday providing ManU are not at home. Simples

What about Saturday evening?

Think it's a pretty moot point as the club have said it is much more financially viable on a Friday for sponsers after they finish work to attend.

I personally prefer Friday or Saturday nights, tend to stay out too long after Sunday games and feel shattered in work for the rest of the week trying to play catch up.

Do though think that both the Hull games, London and Les Cats shouldn't be Friday as it makes travlling to Salford much harder, OK I appreciate that London and Les Cats don't have much of a traveling fan base but surely a Friday game for any of these cuts down on the travelling fans.
