With the rules regarding non-federation players, the only way we could sign an Australian (regardless of Koplak etc) without releasing somebody would be if that Australian has been playing in the UK since before Feb 2008.

That doesn't matter any more. In 2011 clubs can have 5 non-federation trained players in the squad - non federation includes all aussies, kiwis, Kolpaks and dual nationalities who didn't develop within the British game. Our 5 are Holdsworth, Patten, Bailey, Henry and Cashmere. Nero, Latu, Anderson and Feka count as home federation trained as they were on contract to UK clubs before the rules were brought in. So basically, from now on, new Kolpaks and dual nationality players count exactly the same as a full blood Aussie on the quota.

Interesting that everyone instantly thinks it has to be an overseas player?

The only player I can think of is possibly Adrian Morley. Wire are close to announcing a massive signing and releasing Morley would free up their salary cap for it, wouldnt totally rule it out
