The resurected Valentine Cup will be contested at the Willow's on Wednesday 26th August K.O. 7-30pm.
It was last played for in 2001 & won by Eccles arlfc.

Teams in the final are Irlam Hornets arlfc v Folly Lane arlfc

The semi's saw Irlam beat Langworthy Reds & Folly come out on top against Cadishead Rhino's.

Its great that this Cup is to be contested again, so get down & support these local teams, who know's , you may see some future Salford talent emerge from these players.

Admission to the game £3 adults & £1 juniors, entrance is via the Community gate (just near the ticket office).
The Willows Variety bar will also be open for the evening.

I doubt that somehow shirl, its open age so most of the players are early to late 20's, some even as old as 40, don't think we're that desperate for players yet

Thats only coz the pint galsses are too big for me to carry in just one hand

do a Ken Barlow and drink in halF pint glasses and they would look like a pint in your hand and people would be impressed you drank 6 pints without falling over.

North West Counties amateur season starts on 5th Sept - sure all the local sides would love to see you down offering support, 2.30pm kick-offs but check with the club in question...

Great to see the cup back in the fold. Although there is a couple of divisions seperating the two clubs it should be a competitive game and Irlam have a good chance of winning.

I wonder if in future it would be worth running different age group versions of the Valentine Cup to raise interest and competition between the city's clubs. We could then hold a finals day at the Willows each year (on a weekend), with several games on the same day which would hopefully feature a mix of the clubs and work as a bit of a Salford RL festival. With that then maybe we would see some future talent on display as well and the local amateur stalwarts.

Well done to both teams.

Excellent game. Irlam came out fired up for the second half and Folly did well to absorb the pressure when they spent 20 mins with twelve men. Folly had that extra quality in attack but the game could have gone either way. Both teams didnt help themselves by failing to find touch on two occassions from penalties!

Cracking game, i thought that the stand off for Folly had a cracking start to the game but Irlam did well to come back into the game. i thought that irlam snatched it at the end. Dodgey reffing. what is it with the willows and refs?. Also i thought that Ave it had a shocker, Fancy starting a song and forgetting the words half way through. DOH

planned my trips to the bar to avoid queuing.
Great game, from where I was stood Irlam snatched it at the end but both the ref and the touch judge could not see the grounding, if the lad would have kept hold of the ball after touching down it would have been a try.

Was he not signed up by Salford a few years back?
