| Hey everyone.
I'm wondering if you could help me out by telling me the best way to get to your ground using public transport eg which is the best train station to get off at, which bus or tram would get be there or if its just easier to take the car.
Thanks in advance guys i hope this hasnt been asked and answered anywhere else because i did look a few pages back but sometimes i cant see for looking!
See you on sunday!

| Get the train into Man vic and use the tram service to Weaste which is all of about 2 mins from the ground.
Oh, or catch the train to Walkden and catch the number 68 bus to Hope Hospital which is about a 10 minute walk from the ground. Just ask the locals who despite what you might hear are a pretty friendly bunch.
Much friendlier than some of the good folk of Platt Bridge say...

| Doesn't run from Wigan on Sundays matey. (Dear lord. I'm starting to look really sad here. Best explain my public transport knowledge between Salford and Wigan. Tis simples really. I work in Wigan on most Fridays hence getting to Salford from Wigan to Salford is a regular occurance.) (Hopefully I have some credibility again. :s)

Just to boost your credibility slightly, there are no trains on the Walkden line from Wigan on Sundays.

| Very good point Karlos. Of course.
Erm, plan A for the Wigan fans then. Train from Wigan to Man Vic via Bolton and catch the tram to Weaste from Piccadilly Gardens.

why no trains on a Sunday for Swinton/Walkden
Train to Salford Crescent from wigan either change there and train to Piccadilly then tram
or get the Bus 67, 100 to the top of Weaste lane alternative routes

33 does run on a Sunday but takes an hour and 12 minutes. (Source, GMPTE.)
No idea why there's no trains on a Sunday on that line. Neither do the staff at Northern Rail. The staff I've spoken to in the past are as confused about it as we are.
Or, forget the tram idea as its a long haul. Just get the train to the Crescent and catch the 100 to the end of Weaste Lane. Journey time, 1 hour and 8 minutes. (GMPTE travel Planner.)

Hahahaha. This is getting daft now. Hey, and they say public transport is a convenient way of travelling.
Look, it's probably best to get a lift to Blackpool where you should catch a plane to Barton. Once at Barton, go down to the Ship canal and hitch a lift on a boat as far as the Quays. When at the Quays, hail down a tuc-tuc and away you go.

| Any idea why though? Seems daft considering how busy the trains are in the rest of the region on a Sunday?
Apparently Sunday is the number one day of the week for shopping now!

| Simplest would be to get a train from Wigan Wallgate to Deansgate. Across the overbridge to the GMEX Metrolink Station, and catch a tram to Eccles, alighting at Weaste. The 1236/1336 departure will get you to Deansgate for 1311/1411, and then it's a 20 minute journey on the tram. On the way back, if you get the 1702 tram from Weaste, changing at GMEX, you can then get the 1740 train from Deansgate to Wigan, arriving back at Wigan Wallgate at 1811.
The through ticket you need to ask for is a Off Peak Day Return from Wigan Stations to Metrolink Zone H. Should be change from a fiver.

Forget what I said. Go with this!
Since when did trains run between Wigan and Man Pic/Deansgate? Either I've missed a trick or this service only runs on a Sunday?

| I'm loving it this year, moved over from wigan to live in castlefield, i'm right next to cornbrook and just came on here to find out the best tram stop to get off. Should be an easy journey for me.
How busy do the trams get after the match? Just wondering whether it would be an idea to go for a pint and wait for it to calm down a bit before pushing on like a sardine.

| Never been on a "busy" tram affter a game yet. However, I've not been on a tram after a game with Wigan and their pretty sizable away following...
I'd go and have a pint if I were you.
