| I with you on this one, its not the fact i dont want richie to play because he didnt sign his contract, the reason i feel he should not be in the 17 because he is beginning to look a bit tired and needs arest and SALFORD CITY REDS also need to start planning for life without richie.
If there was relegation and we needed to stay in superleague then id play him but as there is no relegation and its all about development of SALFORD CITY REDS and not richie myler, id play him in a few weeks perhaps of the bench like robbie paul will give us a bit of zip round the ruck. He'll play for england and the end of the year regardless the media circus with make sure of that.
Playing him week in week out in a crutial position will stunt our growth and development as a team as we can only start planning when he goes giving us possibly 6 friendly games nxt season to sort it out, not enough time imo

| There's a few reasons why I would not play him:
1. He's looking jaded atm
2. His head will be all over the place atm
3. If he breaks his leg we don't get a nice big transfer fee
4. We should be looking to develop Ratchford and Smith partnership for the rest of the season.
5. He does not want to continue to play for the club
I'm not bitter about him moving, as most of my posts have been in favour of getting shut due to harsh reality. I just think it should be all about Salford going forward now, not Myler and the club should be looking at where to invest the transfer fee when it comes.

I would say rejecting a huge contract is pretty much a clear sign he wants out.
Whether Offiah said it or not Richie must have some say.
If he starts now at that salary what about next contract negotiations.
Lets face reality here we just can not afford him and he obviously knows this and his worth so will be off

| well he can play on with his current contract, and we can still get a price for him, the loser here is Richie by about £70,000 a year at present.

With no bias, as I understand why Myler would move on to further a very short career, his mind is obviously on the next rung of the ladder. As a supporter I would find it difficult to cheer a player who would continue to play for a team he has no intentions of staying at. Regardless whether his integrity is 100% and he does his best when he goes on the pitch. For Myler, he currently sits in limbo, having not gone but showing his intentions for leaving he can't possibly be a positive influence in the team and should not be part of matchdays.
I would not slag the guy off. He is doing what he feels is best for his future. My concern as a supporter is for Salford's future, which in this case, means moving-on and getting used to life without Myler. Currently, life with Myler being a Salford player but not wanting to be is no good for both sides of the coin.

lets make the most of having him while he is here! people on here are starting to sound like united fans when ronaldo wanted to go, they wanted him to just sit in the stands and rot! Myler is not a salford lad, so why would he show us any loyalty? he didn't show widnes any when he left them! Rugby league is a short career, if i was in his shoes i'd want to get as much cash as possible as well!

That makes zero sense...he's already playing for England whilst with us.
And I don't think there's any tapping up gone on, he was always going to leave us to go to a "bigger" club...whether Wire is the right choice or not is another matter...on the one hand they are a perennial under-achiever but on the other they do appear to be building things to challenge properly over the next few seasons so he could easily be the catalyst for future success.

| Why not get behind Offiah ( [size=59 not literally because he might enjoy it[/size ) and convince him its in his best interest to let Myler stay, Mr Wilkinson I believe has some business assoicates who are very good at this sort of work.

Rejecting a new contract is not the same as not wanting to play for the Club. He wants what is best for himself and as long as he continues to play to the best of his ability and doesn't mess us about (which he hasn't) then fair play.

There are many players who have no intention of staying at the Club, should we drop those as well? At the minute that would mean dropping Stapleton, Turner, Myler, possibly Paul, Alker and Littler (retirement) and whoever else. It's just not practical. I can understand the logic of moving the focus to Ratchford & Smith but ATEOTD Myler is a great player and subject to the conditions above I see no reason why he should be dropped. Not to mention the fact we're still paying his wages.

With the exception of Turner. The argument is different. They are either players in the twilight of their careers or overseas players going home. Completely different. Their loyalties do not lie in bettering themselves at the expense of their current club. Myler is a great player, but the club needs to move on. Desperately milking him for everything before he goes smacks of a Salford of yesteryear. If we are a forward thinking club we should think about life without him was my only argument. Build on what we have, not desperately hanging off the shirt tails of a player who feels he should be elsewhere.

Unless you're Leeds or Saints there are always going to be players who think their interests will be better serviced elsewhere, regardless of the cr@p they feed the fans. Most of the squad will believe that they'd be better off at Saints, Leeds or any of the other big teams, should we drop them too?
I find it amazing that there was little support for my suggestion that Coley be dropped in his final year yet there's support for the idea of dropping Myler!

Indeed.
Maybe it's a question of roles.
Props are important but not the 'Glamour' position. Or is seen as such. Plus props are spelled during a game. SH's are seen as pivotal. Hence the more determined stance people may take.
Your argument about some players always with one eye on leaving is sound. It's human nature. Players with that attitude rarely go on to prove themselves right. Their very nature means that teamplay is second to ambition. Eventually it shows. The best coaches would rather have a cohesive team than a bunch of talented individuals.

Bury him deep in the reserves for a while , and pick a lad who wants to play for Salford , its becoming a bloomin' soap opera. Plenty of our younger squad who have contributed to good team performances, wish we could talk about them for once. time he FIFO'd

| Its time for the club to be thinking of the future that will be without Myler. His fee will not go down if we stop playing him. We have to start by playing Ratchford at 7 and smith at 6 to be ready for next season. Bugger England lets be selfish for a change and think of OURSELVES.
