| Jut signed as assistant for Manly. And he said he didn't have a job lined up?! What a joke but I suppose all the Parish lovers will say it's due to the board still! It's due to the fact he had a job lined up, plain & simple!!

| And still the Parish lovers are blinded by the man! Funny how it was mentioned straight after Hasler left and within a week of walking out he turns up there! Do me a favour. The guy only came back from Oz in the first place because he couldn't get himself a job otherwise he wouldn't have come back at all. Answer me this, what personal problems have arisen that weren't there 5 weeks ago that are so severe he had to walk? And the old blame Simms or Tarry or JW is nonesense. He already told us how bad we are as a club so he couldn't use that old chestnut. The guy simply wanted out but couldn't afford it financially so had to wait for the first opportunity to get on that plane home. His heart wasn't in it, at least IMO. And HR that is all it is, my opinion but unless anyone can explain to me the REAL reasons I'm happy to go with my opinion. Surely you can see the argument here?

| I’m sure he hasn’t managed to get a job in a week.
Was he under contract, do we get any compensation, how does it all work?

There could be loads, one of my mates was fit and active a few months back running his pub, then out the blue he gets a headache goes to doctors and within two weeks is told he has an inoperable brain tumour which is terminal and very personal, so a lot can happen in 5 weeks.
Not in MP's case but I am sure this answers your question.

correlation was there but so were the rumours , from flying back to Aus last Thursday at 2pm to being actually in work as a Manly assistant coach the following Friday.
From his first interview with us in July his emphasis was to make an impact to get noticed back in the NRL , he said 5 years , it turned out 5 months , you can't hold training sessoins here in your shorts just down from surfers paradise...

| Bigpev, point well made and agreed. However, as you have also made the point, not in this case. His personal problems are that bad that he is back in work in a brand new job in 7 days. At the end of the day I'm sure we all want people who are committed to our club, especially the guy who is in charge.

| My view is he took the job in the best interests with a view to getting an NRL job further down the line. He came over and then realised it was a much harder job than he thought and allowed himself to be easily influenced by (Ignorant people with no sense of reality) and was gullible and daft enough to fire the guns they had loaded for him.
An interesting lesson here that you have to show patience and gain people's full respect by delivering results before people sit up and take notice of you.

Do you not think that it says something about the club that someone (anyone) was so keen to get out so quickly? And I'm not a "Parish lover" - just a concerned fan.

| No it doesn't.
In one of his first interviews he said that he wanted to prove himself here so he could get a job down under.
That was his game plan.
Fair enough but please don't give us all the crap about it being about Simms etc.
Matt was a prat, his heart wasn't in it and JW got the appointment wrong.
Let's move on and accept that we signed a bad un ,better to discover now than later.

| I'm still not understanding how you guys aren't getting it. People bang on about those who defend Parish, yet constantly defend those who are rightly to blame or all this. Firstly, Parish always said he wanted to go back to the NRL. That he has done. Now, the recruitment effort by the club was appauling. Parish was only on the list because the club messed up recruiting the people they actually wanted in the first place. They also wanted a quick appointment to get somebody in before the end of the season which have whoever would take the job very little time to look into the club fully. So he had to trust what he was told. This being that he would be given full charge to build a team. He was also told about our 'amazing' youth set up. So Parish comes over and hits a brick wall with everything he tries to do. Each time he makes a request he's knocked back. Not for financial reasons, but because they want to control everything. If they never intended to allow him this freedom, they should never have told him he could. He was hugely frustrated and each time he protested he got the cold shoulder treatment. That is impossible to work with. The youth setup was also nothing like he was lead to believe. So, let's just say he has the opportunity to go and work in a professional organisation in the NRL rather than the amateur set up at Salford, then who can blame him. The amateurism of the club didn't even tie him down to a contract which says everything about how they do things. I'm no big lover of Parish, but I just wish people would open their eyes and see things for real. Take the blinkers off.

So you are saying that Parish had no influence on the appointment of Sean Long as his Assistant Coach, changing the fitness conditioner and the signings of Moon and McPherson? Was it not also Parish who decided to ditch the teams computer system and start pre season training earlier than usual?
Come on I'm trying to be open minded but I find all this very hard to believe. For now my allegiances will remain with those loyal to this club for many years over somebody that walks away at the first opportunity.

Iain,in an interview on the radio after he had resigned, Matt said that he was gutted in having left one of only about 30 senior coaching positions in Rugby League giving the impression also that he had been badly done to, this was the impression that I and three other people were left with after listening to the interview together.
To have flew home to Australia, applied for/been approached for the Manly job and then been appointed in less than a week points to Matt having something to answer as well as or instead of the club.
Personally I hope that he does well in the NRL and has learned valuable lessons on his man management and media skills.

No he was not. He haden't put pen to paper on anything official as McRae was still being paid off at the time. When the time did come for him to sign he left.

| So Parish goes back to Aus and gets a job big surprise!
Why are the anti Parish league using this as a stick to beat the guy?
He saw the conditions and interference he had to work with, so is it no surprise if (and it is an if) he saw what opportunities where available whilst he was at home. Surely its better to play second fiddle in the NRL than second fiddle to Steve Simms the world's greatest coaching guru?
As to Manly so you lot suggest it was all a big conspiracy, that Parish new Des Hassler was going to get sacked weeks ago and had it all tied up, before he came bag to the Salford Circus??
Can all these anti Parish people hand on heart say that they have never looked for a job whilst being employed?
It just shows all the prats last week saying he wouldn't get a job are well .... prats. Cream rises to the top as they say, I bet Simms doesn't walk into a job in the NRL if he's ever sacked from Salford, even with his ten years of success at our coaching helm!! I would love to know what they guy has on Wilky to still be in a job.

Some folk suggested his behaviour was that of someone using the club as a stop-gap. This development gives credence to that.
Being uncompromising sounds like a wonderful trait in a coach, in theory. In paractice it appears to isolate and divide the systems that need to 'pull together in the right direction'.

You make the assumption that those "systems" are of any use whatsoever.
All this waffle just takes attention from the real problems. Whether it's Parish, Veivers or Jack ing Gibson coaching the team, the Club is rotten to the core. I don't care who the Coach is, I care that things get fixed and all those of you who are engaging in this cock waving competition about Parish are failing in your duty as fans of Salford RLFC.

I'm glad MP has gone, IMO (IN MY OPINION!) the guy was a loud mouth who (I Know) wasnt respected by the players.
That aside I cant help disagree with your post. You are conveying your "opinion's" as fact's.
These are not fact's, (Unless you are a close friend of SS's or MP's, which I guess your not) These are well thought out opinion's of what you think went wrong.
Matt Parish was chosen becuase the club messed up recruiting a coach? - did SS tell you that himself ?
Matt didnt have enough time to then research the club which is the club's fault? - Matt is a big boy, if he felt he was pressured into the job and didnt have enough time to make his mind up why did he take the job?
They didnt give him freedom ? - What freedom are you on about? signing player's? I would imagine if the club had the funds they would let him sign a worth while player.
He was given the cold shoulder ? - HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS !!!! It was reported MP locked the door after winning his first game.
At the end of the day there's 2 sides to every story, and I think Matt and the board didnt see eye to eye (which Matt may have had good reason for) which didnt help circumstances.
I'm not defending the club here as I gather there are problem's but to attack the club and make your opinion's seem fact is wrong.

The duty of us fans is to fix things. I like this. Perhaps we can discuss solutions to the percieved shortcomings? Maybe we can attempt to identify why things are done the way they are before screaming about how "rotten" everthing/everyone is? Could we lend some time to assist with lotteries, mail-drops, raising funding for the youth and poster campaigns? Could we cojole firends into getting their ar$es to matches?
Or is fulfilling our duty just sitting here bitching?
