tbh nothing is achieved by blaming the ref.
This game was won by the amazing speed at which Wigan play the ball, this resulted in the number of penalties we gave away.
This was not a Tomkins special, or a sensational kicking game - the penalties won the game for Wigan, and if we assume that the penalities were fair then this is something to build on for Salford.

Surely the only thing to work on this week speeding up the play the ball, that way we will win penalty after penalty.
I can only think of one Wigan try that impressed me, all the others came from a penalty and were relatively close range.

Salford were good with ball in hand, and only had a couple of sets where we didnt threaten. Heads never went down, and tbh a 20 deficit wasnt bad considering.

Early doors your attack scared the life out of me. There was pace, power and good ball movement but like you say the heads seemed to go down pretty quickly which is a worry I suppose.

If Salford can keep that intensity of the first 15-20 minutes going most weeks though you'll win far more then you lose. Our defence isn't crash hot at the moment but still I thought you had the best attack i'd seen against us so far for the opening spell.

Agree but watch on the video how many times Wigan play the ball with the foot - very rare - most roll it quickly between their legs and at pace - creates quite an advantage - many Leeds players very adept too such as Maguire, Webb but Peacock is the worst offender - never played the ball correctly for 15 years.

Over here you only have to make an attempt to play it with the foot. In other words just move it and you're ok. In the NRL you HAVE TO play the ball with the foot.

not so much the heads going down just the whistle going to Childs lips, he gave 11 penalties to Wigan in the first half but missed quite a few pens that should have gone to Salford, Tomkins could have took an Uzi on the field to cut a few Reds down and wouldn't have been penalised. Game spoiled by the prat in the middle.

Why cant we do this - anything to gain an advantage.
Someone has posted on another thread that winning a penalty gives such an advantage that teams seem to focus on that more than anything else.
Thats a shame, but the speed of the game is such that lower teams are going to find it really difficult if 2 or 3 penalties are given against them - as we saw last night that's 12 points or more to the opposition.

last season Wigan were brilliant at holding the tackle until the very last second, this year we lost to a fast play the ball. Well done Wigan i say, and if we were winning games in the same way, i wouldn't complain.

As it is, we were good going forward, we are not a dirty or niggly side, but our defence is not strong. We will beat sides on a similar level to us, and score some great trys in the process - But if we can play "smart" as well, then eighth place is a possibility.
