I left the stadium tonight like a man with a weight lifted, the first time in a long time I've been proud to call myself a Salford supporter!

What a fight! Finally a game (against nearly a full strength Wigan side no less) that saw us stand toe to toe with the opposition and nearly match them in (nearly) every department.

Feka - Awesome, no less. I'm absolutely speechless at how he's turned him self around, I'm sure allot of that is down to the fact Parish wanted rid, but if that's what its taken....

Adamson - His best performance in a Salford shirt to date. Strong yard's, better lines, good linkage, and stopped a try late in the second half with his quick turn of pace to the corner flag forcing Charnley back inside, into a tackle.

Smith - One of his best kicking games Ive seen, the same kicking game which saw him impress Saints, but one that turned and split Wigan more times than I can remember.

I could say something positive about every player but I really feel the lad's can take allot of pride and confidence out of that to build on for there first competitive fixture. I'm sure Sean Long had allot to do with the performance and has taken certain area's of our game by the scruff of the neck (since our performance against Leigh) ensuring were at least competitive and improving as shown tonight.

The atmosphere was the first glimpse of what we can expect if we continue to be competitive and were are only going to attract more new fan's if we can maintain that sort of performance.

The only negative I have is the 20 minute wait to move 5 Yds out in the car park, I was speaking to a "traffic attendant" as I waited who informs me the club was trying a different tactic tonight before the season kicks off, which was to close the "dirt track" and drive ALL traffic back out of the main entrance. This in turn allowed ingress to flood through the car park through lines of traffic, not the done thing..apparently. The plan failed miserably and resulted in the only dampener on the night not taking into consideration Silverwood's blatant failure of concealing his desire to get Wigan out of their half...oh how I strive for perfection.

Including the Dec 27th walk event there's been 4 events in a little over a month at the Stadium
if someone attended them all it would have set them back £64 + drinks Food , and of course parking , Salford are only charging £70* for the season pass. some fans just haven't got time or the spare cash to blow on these events .
to compare us with saints is stretching it , Grand finalists for the past few seasons , a higher calibre of signings and ultimately top dog sporting wise in their own town, Salford are non of these, + the Cas game is a Sky game.
yes we've got to stand up and be counted literally , but the Stadium Guys , the Clubs & the players have got to do their bit too, I struggle to recall the last good start to a season we had in the in the top flight 2005?
the corresponding fixture last season drew a crowd of 3,587

What time did your mate get there? There were no queues at 7.15pm. You are right though we should be looking at hoping to get 8000 for Saturdays game.

As Phil vievers is our current coach and we are about to start probably the most important season of salford city reds history its important we look forward from now on not back


But for 30 seconds...

I think we have a lot to thank Matt Parish for, he was only here for 6 months but in that time shook a few trees and a few coconuts fell out, with Parish and his "moods and preferences" we wouldnt have a "new feka" now we would still have a "lazy fat feka", I also feel we will see much fitter players this season because of his appointment of the conditioner bloke and his high standard pre season training plans, His signings look ok its only early in the season so we will given them time before we judge.
As a head coach it was his head on the chopping board, he would be the one who got the sack if it all went wrong, it sounded like he ruled with an iron fist and thats fair enough for me too many of our coaches try to be mates it should be " i am the coach, you are the player, do what i say and when it works come back to me and say im wrong".

Unless his "demands" would have bankrupt the club tomorrow then it was the right decition for both parties for him to leave.

He walked as he saw salford as a stepping stone to somthing better IN HIS TIME and wasnt willing to wait 5 years pick up his money for it until players who he didnt fancy went out of contract/left ect, winners want to win today not tomorrow

It shouldnt be a popularity contest being a salford city reds coach, he was a perfectionist a winner and if that means he was a pain in the bum to work with as long as he kept winning you deal with it

He in my eyes will remain the best salford coach we never had and will now be the yard still i measure all the salford coaches in the future, one day when Wilky sells up and the new people bring their own people in and he has done a bit in the NRL id like to think he might come back as then we will be in the situation he thought we were in when he 1st signed .

Im starting to be impressed with phil Vievers he seems more comfortable infront of the cameara, starting to talk the talk a little, the players are responding to him and he might be able to get that extra 10% out of them which will get them over the line and win

The Acid test will be when we lose and lose badly and how he wraps the performance up in a bow with

"well we tried today, it was one of them days, next week will be better im sure of it"

or will it be

"we were awful, shocking, players tried but collaped when we got in the arm wrestle, not having it...not happy"


As fans all we want is honesty both on and off the field, the club at the moment are doing fantastic things and i feel we are starting to turn the boat around a little performances on the field will dictate how far we turn it i surpose.

Anyway looking forward to Saturday will be interesting to see if the club not just the players, the coaching staff, the admin and us the fans can step up to the occation
