It's decent folk like you and the good friends I've made down the years in RL that have kept me at games, and on this forum, for the last couple of years. There's honestly nothing about the team or the club that inspires me anymore. Attending games has become a real chore, even in the 'historic' final season at The Willows (a place I loved to pieces).
I used to love all the times you mention (conceding 96 at Odsal but still having a laugh outside the Top House, losing 48-odd at Knowsley Road but celebrating like we'd won when Littler pushed Cunningham into touch and stopped them getting a half-century, etc). Not quite the same feeling as hearing your own fans booing the home team off at half time in a friendly that's the first game in our long-awaited new stadium?!
As a Wanderers fan I hated leaving Burnden, and hated the Reebok even more, but the way that Bolton improved its overall off-field 'performance' in the new place, as promised, won me over. I just can't see that happening with Salford. I know that Premiership football and SL rugby aren't on a level playing field but I'm far more impressed with the way that Leigh run things off the field than Salford, despite all their problems.
Today was a real tipping point for me - are we really entering a new era or is it same old Salford in a shiny new box. It's clearly the latter, and the box isn't even that shiny?! I've never been a moaner or a ranter on here, and always had a pop at the nut-job pessimists (lancetodd et al?!) so I won't be going on like this for much longer.
However this should be my 20th year as a Reds season ticket holder. I nearly didn't bother last year but gave-in at the last minute and bought one. I haven't bothered this year and can't see a last-minute change of heart on the horizon.
