I'm more pragmatic about Peel's ' The Trafford Centre ' involvement with Salford City Reds .
I think both parties are participating with open eyes ,
No-one is gullible enough to believe their financial involvement was altruistic fan based AKA S.J.M. at Warrington , It's not a plaything , it's [iBUSINESS[/i.
Without Peel and now the councils involvement we would be history , we are the pawn in a much bigger game
Peel holdings plan to sponsor business cooperation along the whole stretch of the Manchester Ship Canal [url=http://www.oceangateway.co.uk/content/index.htmlocean-gateway[/url
Their involvement in Speke Airport turned it from a down at heel Airfield to an alternative low cost Airport to Manchester , It's not secret they have plans for Barton Aerodrome, an all weather racecourse near Worsley and the re-establishment of a container-port below Irlam Locks. They've also invested in Mediacity to bring BBC Manchester & BBC Sport & Childrens Dept's into Salford Quays.
Wilkinson early doors clashed with Peel over planning for the Barton Site. It became obvious very soon after that such was Peel's lobbying experience efforts to develop without Peels involvement would have been futile.
The Stadium and a viable sporting tenant is neccessity even thought it is just a link in a chain of greater Peel influenced projects. If there is a rumoured Peel representative on board in the near future , it reminds me of the way Mercantile Banks would appoint a board member to guide the use of their venture capital. I'm not expecting Peel to expect a fiscal return but a political one. proving themselves on this project would ease their designs on other projects.
Yes we are in for the ride of out lives over the next 12-24 months , one that will either be the re-making of us as a ' big league club ' or the final bitter end .. who said Rugby League is just a game
