| Too early?
my candidates
1. Danny Houghton - I think he's a clear winner so far this season has he even missed a game?
2.Chris Sandow - Best half-back in SuperLeague this year? you got to have the best halfback on the shortlist.
3.Luke Dorn - Ok this is why I started this thread, irreplaceable for Cas ,has had another brilliant season.

| My candidates are all Hull FC players - Shaul, Taylor and I can't decide between Syned or Houghton.

| There are a few possible candidates from Hull. For me the best of them is Gareth Ellis. The season he's had would have been outstanding anyway. To do it after battling back from an injury that a lot of people thought would probably end his career is something else.
Sneyd, Houghton, Shaul, Taylor. All very good players, but they just don't inspire their teammates the way that Ellis does. He's been the perfect leader.
My 3 (probably in order of how I'd pick them).
Ellis
Sandow
Houghton

| I'd give it to Ellis - he's exactly the kind of player I like. Though I think for all the talk of Sandow, to me Gidley is the one that steers the ship and deserves the plaudits.
Shortlist should be Ellis, Gidley, Sneyd for me.

| Gareth Ellis by an absolute country mile. There's not one player who makes such a noticeable impact to the entire team when they're on the pitch. A true captain.

| It's strange on these type of threads how many people suggest players from the club they support. Half way through the season I would have said it was between Sandow and Bateman, Sandow got injured and Bateman had his issues since. I don't think there's any obvious candidates that there has been in previous years and we could probably select a shortlist of around a dozen who have a decent shout.

| Gareth Ellis for me.
He is the best and most consistent player I have seen so far in my life at Hull. His defence is just brutal. More often that not anybody who he has tackled gets up slowly to play the ball because he hits them that hard.
A similar situation to when Adrian Peterson won the MVP award after a ACL and MCL injury. I personally thought Ellis' career was over when he went down against Rovers. To come back at all, nevermind how good he has been this year, shows what the guy is made of.
I'd also have on the shortlist Gidley and Houghton.
Bateman for me was looking a shoe-in to at least make the short list but I reckon that chance has been bombed now.

| Houghton, Taylor and Sneyd have all been outstanding but the best player in SL this season is Ellis. He is quite simply a great player

| Gareth Ellis by a mile. Every hit up is at full intensity. Every tackle is with everything he has. I have lost count of the huge hits he has put in. In the Saints away game, after playing both Easter games he was smashing Kyle Amor all over.
He is a machine

| Yep, I'm gonna throw in Ellis as well. Truly great player but also a real leader, it is incredible how much more pumped up we are for a game if he is playing.

| For me Ellis has missed too many with injuries / rested. Danny Houghton's stats speak for themselves. Chris Sandow , Jacob Miller and Marc sneyd have all been quality too.

| Gareth Ellis or Ben Westwood - both hard as nails & never shirk hard work, and both make a big difference to their teams performance.

| As good as Ellis has been this year, Houghton for me is having the season of his life now he can show what he can do with a dangerous pack in front of him. His statistics are almost unbelievable and he has been the heart-beat of the Hull side this year (complimented by Sneyd).
Should be his year regardless of whether Hull go onto win anything

Wouldn't even be player of the season for Wigan's reserves.
Houghton/Sandow/Bateman will make up the 'shortlist' I reckon, with Houghton winning it.

| Denny Solomona?
28 tries scored - 8 more than the player in second place. Some of them have been spectacular ones too.
37 clean breaks - 12 more than any other player.
Luke Gale?
32 try assists - 9 more than any other player.
Second top goal kicker behind Sneyd
Has kicked 8 less goals than Sneyd but created 14 more tries.
Currently leading Goldthorpe medal table and has played without a proper half back partner for most of year.
I think there are the only two possibilities from Cas. Luke Dorn has gone well too - 10 tries and 16 try assists despite missing at least 10 games.
I think Sandow is the most talented player I have seen this year, but Houghton has been very good too.
