We had a very, very long history of using Maine Road without problems.
The COMS was built to be used by the Comm Games for Christ's sake. Sure it is Man City's home but they should share it as was originally envisaged.
The fact the club has since been bought out by a multi-billionaire doesn't change the intended usage well before he arrived on the scene...'"
The CMS was built to host the Commonwealth Games and then it was always intended for it to BELONG to Manchester City, it was never intended to be anything different.

| The COM is a fantastic venue if they could get it. As for Elland Rd no thanks I`d much prefer Bramall Lane.

| I pay £180 for my season ticket, if that's giving away, you must be bloody mad or the value of the pound will have dropped dramatically in the last 9 seconds!

That isn't my understanding of the original plans for the ground...
And even if that was the case (which is not conceded), it is hardly equitable and should be remedied in any fair minded society. Of course, Britain and rugby league don't always mix in that environment...as tends to be the case when politicians have to lobby for basic freedoms on behalf of the sport as we have had to over the years.
PS. GF - you could look more desperate by wearing a sign saying it next time (otherwise, I doubt it)

Salt'n'vinegar for that chip sir?
FFS....why are we debating the potential to have International RL played in what is essentially a 100% soccer ground? It's not like Manchester is exactly a League hotbed anyway........Play the games in stadiums that have a chance of selling out....Wigans, FC's, Huddersfields all hold 25k......play the Anzac test in London (Craven cottage) and Maybe the Wales v England game at Saints new ground......as for the Final....nothing wrong with Bell end road (unless it's an ANZAC final).....

I stick by the choices I made earlier in the thread for the reasons set forth. Any "intelligent debate" on the subject is welcome...note the definition.

| As has been said, why play a double header for the first game?
Welsh RL, whilst on the up, is not going to attract sufficient locals to the Millenium stadium to get anywhere near 40,000 for both games, but if you play Wales v Australia and Wales v New Zealand in London, you will sell those out at the stoop. There's 30,000 to start with.
Play the Ansac test at a London Venue that holds 25,000 another sell out....55,000 running total.
England v Australia (Yorkshire), England v NZ (Lancashire)...both in 25,000 stadiums...105,000 running total.
Wales v England...St's new 18,000 stadium.....or maybe in cardiff at the city stadium (27,000)....but possibly Liberty stadium in swansea (20,000)....
running total potentially 132,000.
Final...Elland Road...40,000.
So, potentially 172,000 fans over 7 games with an average of just under 25k a game.
Market it well with "team packs" at £45 each.....individual tickets at £25..........44,000 pack sales nearly £2,000,000 in revenue + the finals revenue and if a final ticket was £30 then you are looking at over £3,000,000 in revenue.......get the BBC showing "live" RL with full stadiums, whip up a bit of national pride and you never know......even the Media in general might pay attention!
The above ideas would take a fair bit of marketing and pre-selling, but are achievable.........if the planning starts now and the pre-sales start as soon as SL starts in Jan/Feb..in fact, maybe should have been offered as an add-on with ST sales that started at the end of the seson just gone.
52 weeks 'til next years comp.......£1.44 a week for a 3 game pack and a final ticket........one less tin of Special Brew of half of bitter a week.......

Fair enough. Bell end Road is a bit shabby, but the RFL have used it in the past and they (The Owners) will welcome the income.
City of Manchester Stadium, at a glance, holds 47,500...so potentially more revenue, is nice and shiny, has loads of better facilities and isn't owned by a football club!
Flip side is, it's leased by MCFC and this lease is under re-negotiation and MCFC's owners are reportedly ploughing a few bob into redevelopment of the surrounding area...so Manchester City Council would need to be careful in upsetting thier main source of income from the stadium. Furthermore (and this is just a guess), the MOC would cost considerably more to lease than Elland road. If you also factor in the unknown, as in, what if it was an all ANZAC final....how many English fans would bother going? At least with Elland Road you'd have 7,500 less empty seats.....and remember, only 31,000 bothered to roll up in 2009 when the English made it to the final.
I have no doubt that MOC is a far better Stadium than most in the UK.....but I believe it would cause more hassle, cost more and be a potential banana skin that the RFL don't need.

There was no safety ceritifcate for the upper tier. The only seats left were the crappy ones that no-one wanted to sit in at the bottom.

| Right, here's a superbly novel idea. Extend the tournament to 6 games (each playing eachother twice). Give each country a 'home ground' say:
England: DW Stadium/Headingley
Australia: The Stoop
New Zealand: Craven Cottage
Wales: Racecourse
have them gain support in the area, get the locals out to all three 'home games' create the atmosphere. England and Wales will not be a problem, and the prospect of 2 ANZAC games will have the Barry McKenzies of this world giddy. Play the final at Pride Park, Bobs your uncle.
