So Richard Myler has been playing the role of Albert Rosenfeld and Barry McKenzie on this forum? Wow! How did he ever get enough time to train and play as well?

I know Myler gets a lot of stick. But watching him closely over the last few months I really do think he's got a hell of a boot on him for such a small guy. His short kicking game is a mixed bag. But his distance kicking is a lot better than he's given credit for. He's quick and dangerous given space. He's not international class. But paired with the right half back he could do some side a pretty decent job.

His distance kicking is appalling. God knows what you watch man. Wow for a little fella he can kick it far? Professional rugby player...I should hope he can, accuracy wouldn't go amiss though. I quite like myler but his long kicking game is his weakness. Stick to nrl full backs as you know loads about them.

Erm ... most recently his distance kicking against Wigan?



I would hope the Man of Steel would play like one. I would hope GB could win a test series against Australia once in forty years. As they say, "You know what hope did."

In case you haven't been watching our repeated international drubbings - British halves who can kick a ball 45-50 yards before bouncing are nothing short of extinct. At Saints we've had maybe two over the last fifteen years who could do it consistently - Martyn and Gaskell (who's currently plying his trade in the lower leagues). Our most successful scrum half, Sean Long, could scarcely clear 35 yards.

Yes, Myler still has areas to improve. But you can't coach leg strength.

After watching him most weeks for the past 5 years, and if asked what was the worst facet of his game as a half back, it would unquestionably be his long kicking game. Time after time the ball will end up in the hands of the full back or winger instead of the ground. Getting the distance is only half the story - accuracy is far more important.

I think the change will do him good, he's never quite lived up to expectation at wire in my view. He plays a solid role as a supporting half, so if catalan can get carney fit next year he will do a good job for them.

Good defender for a half - something that has improved no end since he arrived.

Myler is still better than most of the current Wire squad and they think Kurt Gidley, older, semi-permanently crocked and pension seeking, from a team with a losing habit is a better bet!

No, we think bringing in a marquee signing is a better bet than Myler, Gidley isn't that. Gidley has been brought in to provide some much needed experience to a spine that has lost Brett Hodgson, Lee Briers & Mick Monaghan in the last few years.
