I'm proud of all the players and to quote the great philosopher Michael Jackson, it don't matter if they're black or white.

I'm not getting high and mighty - I'm having an interesting discussion about positive discrimination and the contribution of black players to RL.
However, for accuracy, he said if one of those 4 were selected, on merit.

| i think, thought it is an iconic picture....., having don fox with his head in his hands would be quite disrespectful to a great player that should be remembered for everything else. yes it is iconic and he is a great player, but to have that as a permanent memory of him would be very disrespectful.
neil fox all the way. not just because im a wakefield fan and called neil after the great man. top points scorer. great contribution. and would be the top points scorer in a match had tries been worth the same in both eras. i cant see past him

Sorry Bren2k, it looked like I aimed that at you as I typed straight after but I was just saying generally as a few had jumped on his comment.

| I dont think they made a point to pick non white players and those 4 players were picked on merit.
I do however believe that if it was Football or Rugby Union there is no way in a list of 10 four would be non white. No chance!!

| I hope that race hasn't been used for determining who the statue should be.Sporting prowess should be the only determinant.
Either way, I can't see how Jim Sullivan wasn't included in that list.
Lance Todd is more well known due to the fact that the MOM at the Wembley CC final decision being named after Lance Todd because he was a journalist, not because of his playing career.
AFAIK Todd never played at Wembley. Even though Todd was a member of the great Wigan threequarter line of 'Leytham,Jenkins,Todd and Miller' of pre-WW1, his playing career profile didn't increase after he left Wigan.
He did play for NZ pre-WW1.
It does seem to me an odd inclusion.

Lest we forget that Lance Todd is also one of the most successful coaches in rugby league history. He was the first man to manage a club to back-to-back Wembley finals — in 1938 & ’39 with Salford.

| As a bloke of 28 and a Wigan fan my stand out memory from all my Wembley visits is Martin Offiah knelt with his head in his hands after scoring a simply amazing try.
Im bias but I'd love to see that.

| I really dont agree with any one player being raised above all the rest in this way , after all so many greats have played this great game over the last hundred years or so and not one of the took to them field alone .
Something iconic of the sport would be more fitting to be raised so every fan of every club can look at it and know there team had a part in it .
I have posted this elsewhere and will bang my lonely drum in the hope that someone somewhere will see the logic behind it .

The Ozzies had those two blokes for the Winfield cup. Similar sentiment I suppose.

| I think it should be Clive Sullivan, the last GB captain to win the RLWC,
He'd be alongside Bobby Moore, the last England captain to win the World Cup.

'Those two blokes' also known as Summons and Provan, symbolise the true spirit of RL and professional sportsmanship. They were each the respective captains of their teams and the sculpture is from a picture taken at the end of the NSW Grand Final, I am unsure of the year.
Anyway I know they both hold (held in terms of Provan) Australian Caps and that the same sculpture apears within the centre of the NRL trophy.
They are also seen at the end of this video: youtu.be/BuhCPjvn83Y

| I hope they do a better job of Wembley statue than that monstrosity - it looks like one of those tacky ornaments that old people have on their sideboards; all that's missing is a collie dog looking up adoringly at the little fella.

| Why do we as a nation always feel we have to discuss or even mention whether a player is black or white. It shouldn't even need to come into the discussion. Where all people and they are all Rugby league players, Colour, creed and origin shouldn't matter one iota and therefore not need to be brought up as a discussion point.

The only reason I mentioned Clive's colour was because it showed RL in a good light for once as a forward thinking sport.
It showed that RL is great for any/everybody and that no one is omited or excluded.

| Sully for me too.
Due to the tribal nature of RL, I think the statue should depict someone or something that the whole of RL in the UK can feel some affinity to.
Although he doesn't have a connection to Wembley as strong as some others on the shortlist, I still think that a statue of the captain of our last World Cup winning side, will unite fans of all clubs (he scored a try in the final too).
In football, they could have put up a statue of Ryan Giggs (for instance) outside Wembley. A Man Utd player who has made a record-breaking number of apps and won plenty of trophies at Wembley. For fans of Man Utd this would be great, but would fans of other clubs care?
Bobby Moore, captain of England world cup winning side is there now. Do you think that if Bobby Morre had captained England to a World Cup win hosted in another country, that there wouldn't be a statue of him as it wasn't played at Wembley?

| Neil Fox MBE (born 4 May 1939 in Sharlston,[1 West Yorkshire) is an English former rugby league footballer and player-coach of the 1950s, 60s and 70s. A goal-kicking Centre, he is one of the most prominent figures in the history of the sport because he holds the all-time points record, scoring 6,220 points during his career
Neil Fox played Left-Centre, i.e. number 4, and scored twenty points (two tries and seven goals) in Wakefield Trinity’s 38-5 victory over Hull F.C. in the 1959–60 Challenge Cup final at :39j5jhbxWembley Stadium :39j5jhbxon 14 May 1960, setting a new record for most points in a Challenge Cup Final. This feat was equalled by Iestyn Harris (1-try and 8-goals) in Leeds Rhinos' victory over the London Broncos in the 1999 Challenge Cup Final. (If trys where equal Neil would still be the outright holder)
Neil Fox played Left-Centre, i.e. number 4, and scored two tries and two goals in Wakefield Trinity’s 16-10 victory over Huddersfield in the 1960–61 Yorkshire Cup final at Headingley Stadium, Leeds on 29 October 1960.[4
Fox scored a try and three goals in the 12-6 victory over Huddersfield in the 1961–62 Challenge Cup final at :39j5jhbxWembley Stadium :39j5jhbxon 12 May 1962, and was awarded the Lance Todd Trophy for his man-of-the-match performance. He scored five goals in the 25-10 victory over Wigan in the 1962–63 Challenge Cup final at :39j5jhbxWembley Stadium
Neil is the all time record, point scorer - 6,220 points during his career.
Neil has scored the most points in a Great Britain Jersey - 228
Neil has scored the most points in a Challenge Cup Final (at Wembley) - 20 (Joint with I Harris)
Neil has won the Lance Todd at Wembley
Neil retired with the record for most points scored in Anglo-Australian test match history until overtaken by Mal Meninga in 1992
Neil's career spanned 23 years
Neil has played many times at Wembley and is one of the most prominent figures in our game
Neil is a gentleman and a still a massive fan of rugby League
There are many great players on that list and its always tough to choose just one. Its an honour to be in the top 10 and good luck to everyone but Neil gets my vote. You may remember a great try, tackle or win that gives fond memories but for someone to maintain such a consistently high performance over such a long period is an amazing feat and the phrase form is temporary, class is perminant comes to mind! I know the era's are different but i doubt his record will ever be beaten and to have the World Record RL point scorer on permanent display is the key! When the round ball fans are down at wembley asking who anyone is who are lucky enough to be chosen - If it is Neil they can look at the plaque and see he is the World record point scorer! That plays a tune and mutual respect in any sport..
