Why not? Where has this myth come from that we can't beat New Zealand? People have been saying it every year since I joined this forum yet we have a record of won 7 lost 5 since 2004 (not including the one off mid-season test).

| I think it's because down under we've traditionally struggled.
Lets not take anything away from a great series but we wont 3 of those games in 07 against a severely depleted side on home soil.
Down under I bet we haven't beaten them for 5 games have we? I dont know, I dont have the figures..

Probably not, we didn't beat them in the WC or 06 Tri-Nations anyway. I still think it's wrong to just write us off reaching the final though.
Quote ="74'"Did you not watch the WC?'"
Yes, is that what you are basing your negative view on? A squad from two years ago, dominated by Saints and Leeds players which reportedly didn't get along?

Atkins' FIRST pass on the break went where................
For the Louis Anderson break his positional sense was absolutely shocking. 3 on 1 you should always score.
Its all good Bridge returns next week, we can watch a real class centre.
Ill accept your apology in writing here.

| Briscoes try last night summed up why he should be in the team. It's alright falling over the line 25 times a season but would any of the other wing candidates have scored that? He's not only got genuine pace but he's very strong and has great balance and footwork.

You watch a different sport to me surely! Ryan Atkins last night was fantastic, as he has been for the best part of the year. Another try assist to go with his 2 last week, not doing a bad job for someone who cant pass. Joint second centre for try assist's in SL, with Matt King, behind Bridge (who has played a few games as a half and loose)
If you want to line Ryan Atkins up against any other centre in the league i'd defend his corner, check his stats. Try assist's, metres, carries, dummy half runs, tackle's, tries, penalties... anything! The guy is 24, and a very 'raw' talent, but as the season has gone on, he has become a stand out in the 2nd best team in the league.

| Ive never claimed he isn't a good athlete; what he isnt is a natural centre.
I said he finds touch more often than he finds his winger and that was proven last night. I said his positional sense is poor and that was highlighted again taking completely the wrong option on Louis' break. this happens too regularly, usually with Mathers and he then often looks like an idiot when in fact when you take a look at Atkins he's taken completely the wrong line.
Atkins does a lot of things right, he aint a natural centre though, Bridge is, the wing would definately be the position i'd be looking to put Atkins in the international side. At club level he goes okay, internationally he would be murdered.

| dico you make me laugh. atkins put in an absolute stormer last nite and now you're saying it proves your point. can you actually once stand up for your player. this sort of talk was said by people who hated KP or jon clarke(who over past few weeks deserves a wembley spot).

| Atkins has a lot of potential and has strength and speed to burn but I think he'd make a top class International winger.

After watching Martin Gleeson (at the time the best British centre by a long chalk) at Saints and Warrington find the flagwaver on numerous occasions when we should have scored, the same with Matt Gidley. Bridge is a great centre, but is a completely different prospect that Atkins. If i were picking the team i'd pick them both at centre's. Both are quick and solid defenders, one offers footwork and handling and the other gives pace and power and (quite obviously by the stats board) give his winger a chance

Atkins, solid defender? good one
And Bridge isn't "great", far from it great is Inglis.

No, you're right you can't compare them, hence why Bridge is far from great.

Well tell me one centre in the world who is as good as Inglis! Lets be realistic and compare what we have.
Atkins has missed less tackles than Keith Senior (1), Michael Shenton (4) and Kirk Yeaman (12)
So, the best of what is available!

Yes you did, you beat us in Sydney. Mason decked Fielden. Sean Long starred, then buggered off home. I believe we've won four straight against you since. This Four Nations will be the 5th.

don't underestimate england then...
beating NZ in the opening game & beating PNG thus making the final is'nt beyond the realms of possibilities..in fact anything less would be a failure in my eyes....but the inevitable tanking by australia in the final would somehow put us back "miles behind australia AND NEW ZEALAND again by the doom mongerers
like i said a couple of weeks ago we can't win what ever we do...even if we win the bloody thing it'll be because australia let us
