No there was speculation about Smith being called up but he didn't go, his last Origin was his final year before joining Hull. As far as I remember he retired from all rep footy in 2000. They asked him about coming out of Origin retirement when he had gone back to the NRL after Hull and was playing for Canberra, but he declined the call up.

In fairness a lot of people aren't voting for the team they thinks best and are instead choosing to try and screw over there rivals instead.

He'll be back this weekend giving him almost 2 months of game time and unless something really weird has happened, you have got to expect more of the same from him as last season.

So yeh, i'd opt for him. Especially over Francis Meli anyway

I'm thoroughly sick of reading your needlessly negative point of view on every single topic in RL. It's a good job the RFL and all clubs aren't run by people with your attitude, or we'd have given up and gone home some time in the 50s.

Not seen this week's update but last week he was English.

My point is the selectors will choose who they want (and who the SL coaches will be willing to release) for this game.

If 100% of the people on here/that site voted to put Joel Monaghan on the wing and the selectors don't want him then he won't be playing.

Not quite, the public pick 13, McClennan adds 9 to make 22. The coaching staff then trim that to 18 for game day which means they can chop out 4 of the public choices.

It's irrelevent what the public pick.


I would suggest the team is probably more or less sorted already.

I see Pat Richards is listed as 'Australia' despite the fact that he plays for Ireland and not Australia.

Yes, crazy that the English public would have the cheek to pick the current Man of Steel. By June his injury will be a distant memory and his inclusion would be a no brainer.



The concept of the selection process adds to the build up of the game, far better than a 60 point mauling of a Catalan biased French national side. Fair play to the RFL.

And if the Exiles win, it's not necessarily a bad thing, the point of the game is for a tougher hit out, which England will get in this game. Hopefully England will learn alot from the game and learn alot from the players in the 'elite' squad.

I like it, it is developing well and I reckon will be a very competative game. Publicity stuff is also looking good. Just need slack ar5e RL fans to get off their backsides and get to the game now!
