Yup, the world is full of marketing/schmarketing people trying/failing to justify their wage/existence - b*llshiite baffles brains.
Example: SL has failed to finish its fixtures by some way but we are expected to swallow the below spin from SL's Head of Commercial,
Quote ="RhodriJones" I'm sure everyone will be excited about five huge games, set to deliver an even more exciting climax to the 2020 season'"
Excited and exciting in the same sentence, hardly Dylan Thomas.
Douglas Adams had all pointless people shipped off into deep space supposedly to colonise new worlds. Is it time that RL attempted to expand into new, as yet untapped planets. Maybe there could be a First Pangalactic Rugby Team?

I'd have much preferred the version in Egg Chasing's avatar. Wakefield showed you can have a new badge that looks both traditional & modern at the same time.

| Cas would be a good contender for the next to be changed as it's a slightly more complicated logo, and everyone's harping on about making things look better on a smaller scale.

I think the Wakefield Trinity rebrand (back to Trinity) was fantastic.
I respect Saints for having not deviated from their original nickname and not modernised their badge too much.
Warrington have gone for something weirdly in the middle and fairly rubbish by comparison, with our American nickname and our proper nickname on the same badge - why?

Salford's previous one was rubbish too, though, it looked like it had been done by a 15 year old who had just got a Mac with an Adobe suite for Christmas.

| You can leave your old crest behind if its part and parcel of an overall transformation. I quite liked the Bradford Northern crest but nobody really kicked up a fuss when we went from this: to this, dare I say, iconic one:
I just don't see what Wigan are achieving with that new one.

| I didn't think the Bradford Bulls one was iconic, personally. Name, which had nothing to do with Bradford, and logo a direct steal from probably the most admired sports club in the world at the time (Chicago), redone in Bradford colours.
I'd say this was an iconic and original RL badge, that incorporates a nickname and tradition well

Wigan's new one is based on a tribe/people that predominantly inhabited what is now Yorkshire!
Saldord's? Someone on RedDevils.net has said that the new devil more resembles an ape with horns - it does!!
What a time to rebrand when there iis such uncertainty over next season.
Surely, Salford especially, should be spending money on more important things?

While I wasn't a fan of the now old logo either, it seems a strange time to rebrand due to as you say the financial situation but also after a Grand Final and Challenge Cup final surely Salfords brand recognition is the highest its been for decades?

| Wigan's old badge was the worst in SL, a coat of arms just doesn't cut it anymore, to the uninitiated their old badge was indistinguishable from the dozens of EFL clubs who have similar designs. I can't say I'm overly convinced by either Wigan or Salford's new badges, but I applaud idea.
As others have mentioned Wakefield absolutely nailed the rebranded with their newest badge, Saints did pretty well with theirs too.
Leeds, Castleford and Huddersfield need to follow suit now, Leeds and Castleford look like their badges were made using clipart from a mid-90's version of Microsoft Office.

Warrington tried to go full Wolves, from 1996 at the commencement of SL, but some fans just weren't having it, but it's only been in the last 5 or so years that the club has started to re-recognise and brand the traditional Wires/The Wire name again too.

The animal names seemed to have worked best in cities/towns where the RL club competes with the Football club for attention. For example you can now say 'I'm off to watch the Rhinos' rather than just Leeds which (and someone from Leeds please correct me if I'm wrong) could have meant United or Rugby before.
In Hull saying you were off to see Hull always meant FC historically, and Hull City were in the doldrums for years probably helped with that. Our Sharks name was never popular, though they did try and implement it when we were bottom of SL and bankrupt which didn't help matters.
At the end of the day a new logo only goes so far, its the performances on the field that matter most. In normal times I bet Salford would have seen good crowds this year on the back of the increased attention from their finals. HullFC's crowds were boosted by our 2005 Cup win, those kids in the stands celebrating that day could now be parents bringing their own kids along to games.

| Traditional badges are fine for football clubs so why not RL?
I don't see Liverpool, Arsenal or Tottenham failing to attract viewers because they have traditional (but updated) badges.
I think we're too ready to chuck away traditions in the hope of getting more fans, when some of those traditions aren't the problem.
Why are Warrington's gates up over the past two decades? Having a decent ground that caters for both fans who want corporate luxury/a nice family experience in the stands and fans who want to stand on the terraces, and a competitive team, not because they adopted an Americanised nickname.

Nothing wrong with incorporating elements of a coat of arms into a decent club badge, Wigan should have taken the castle from the centre of theirs and made something of it.

| The main problem with having the town coat of arms (I believe) is that the club can't copyright it, hence Wire dropped it from the shirts in 1991.
But you can have a variation on the town's traditional symbols and make it the club's own.
Which is what Man City do...
