Tomkins is the future captain but making him captain now would bring too much attention on him.'"
What a daft comment.
Anyway it's going to be Sinfield...this is McNamara we are talking about.

Why is that a daft comment? My opinion is that he would be better playing from the bench. He could give us impact.
He has proved himself to be a bit of a cry baby anyway.
Just look at the last 30 seconds of the 2010 GF. Jammer is having a paddy and standing in the centres while Wilkin, Wellens and Roby are still giving it everything they have untill the game is over. He certainly doesn't have the right mindset to be a captain.

| If he plays which imo he shouldnt on current form anyway it should be Sinfield because I think he is the best captain, however if I was in charge I would pick Roby! You need someone who is going to be on the pitch for at least 70mins and I think it should be a SL based player so they can play mid season. O'loughlian would be second choice for me!

| Depends if you want a player who's central to the playmaking or a 'leader by example'. Personally I think Graham deserves a chance, as we don't have a 'must pick' halfback.

| I have necer liked the idea of a props or hookers being captain as they generally are only on the pitch for half a match and pointless. It probably should go to Sinfield as he is the best captain but I wouldn't know where to put him in the team and IMO there are better players in the positions he plays in. And as someone said if he is captain that means he will be in the test team until he retires.
I think it should be Ellis as captain and Sam as his deputy. But still believe McBanana will go with Sinfield.

| I'd go for O'Loughlin, should go to someone who is/has been captain at club level for a decent period of time. I'd pick him over Sinfield based on he should be around in the team a lot longer than Sinfield, who i can see retiring from Internationals after next years World Cup. I think the RFL would prefer it to go to an Super League based player too for any media throughout the year and also for the Exiles games instead of rolling out a deputy.

| Knowing Mcbanana it will be a Leeds player.
But the smart money is on Adrian Morley with Mcbanana saying how important it is that we have an experienced player who will worry the aussies, age is not an issue blah blah blah

| sam burgess or james graham would seem obvious choices....but seeing as england have several training camps during the season, which burgess & graham can't attend, then theres little point..
i'd have gareth ellis,he's coming back home next season and vastly experienced....and he does'nt have the "all aussies are supermen" mentality

| James Graham or James Roby
It's not like everyone is going to suddenly stop playing because he goes to the bench and to be honest, I like them playing more minutes.
I like Sinfield as a Captain but as said above, depending on form and position I'm not sure about him playing.

| Graham for sure - exactly the sort of drive, aggression and never say die attitude we need from England.
I'd put him well clear of anyone else, although the RFL may well want a British based captain and I could understand that fro the POV of training camps etc.

| O'Loughlin for me, leads by example plus can rally the players, but we all know it will be Sinfield, getting sick of him being so central to the England side at the moment!

| Ellis for me, he's coming back to England and is guaranteed to play.
He also knows what it takes to beat Australians, not something many of the team do.

| I vote Jammer. Despite the quite simply ridiculous assertions made on here, he's the first name on the team sheet. He's got more fire in him than the rest of the side put together.
We can't have Tomkins as he's spending another couple of days with Saracens this week ahead of his move to Union so isn't a long term choice.
But it will surely be Sinfield. Somehow seems irreplaceable in the eyes of the coach and is the most experienced 'old head' left now if you assume Morley would be picked because he's rubbish.

But he would only be available for the end of season games. Who would captain during the mid season?
Lockers, Roby or Ellis for me.
Very good point made by roughyedspud about Ellis not having the Aussie's are superman attitude.
Lockers will do 80 and leads by example, so would Roby.
Dont think it should be Sam T. Picking him would be a little "gimmicky" so early in his international career.

| If it was Australia choosing a captain it would always go to a halfback, a pivotal position who is going to be on the pitch 80mins.
If i was McBanana i would pick the team first then pick the captain and not make it a permenant choice, probably between Sinfield and Lockers at the moment.

| I'd go for a young-ish captain. Graham would be ideal IMO. Flanders isn't certein to start, Ellis, Westwood, and Sinfield are all a bit too old.

| O Loughlin for me, captain of his hometown club and would be proud to be captain of his country. A grafter and someone who is on the pitch for 80 minutes. In a good position at Lock to make impact and give them a kick up the when we fall behind to the Aussies again.
Failing that id have Ellis or Burgess. Jammer has a bit too short a fuse to be captain and could work against us when talking to referees about decisions. In the future i can't see past Roby being the captain.
But knowing McNamara id bet a quid on Rangi Chase. Quack mate.

| They aren't going to pick someone who isn't already a SL based captain of their club, leaving Sinfield, Roby or O'Loughlin. O'Loughlin wins it for me but I wouldn't be too disappointed with Sinfield. Roby seems a bit too quiet.

| Roby and O'Loughlin both give the same thing. They lead by example and put in the hard graft but neither are vocal at all.
Graham leads by example and is very vocal although has had a tendency to spit the dummy. Still, that shows how much he wants to win. I'd say Graham should be captain but the fact that he doesn't play in England causes a bit of an issue.
Sinfield is a great leader but he's not the best in any position that he plays. He's also coming towards the end of his career so it would make more sense to give the captaincy to someone who will be there for years to come.

| Should be Ellis without doubt.
Will be Sinfield however, and McNamara will play him until he retires from International rugby.
