weve been copying the nfl for decades
eg salary cap. gallop always uses american sports as examples
john peard and jack gibson got the bomb from american football in the 70s
our coaches regularly go to NFL clubs for ideas.
they are very similar games in many ways

The early Northern Union had Yorkshire and Lancashire leagues with a play-off to determine the national champion.

Not quite. There were some years with separate Yorkshire and Lancashire Leagues and some years with play-offs but never a play-off between Yorkshire and Lancashire champions.

Be more along the lines of Auckland vs the Rest

| A two conference system system would imply that maybe they are considering adding 4 teams like in 1994 rather than just 2. Two conferences of 10 teams is a lot more workable than 9 team leagues. There are enough good candidates.
I have to say that 2 conferences is the way to go in Australia and over here.

| conferences are A) not necessary for at least 10 years and B) a poor outcome for non sydney teams (in terms of travel and TV exposure)
A better idea would be a 22 team league. Play each other once with an extended playoff.

Really?
I am aware that Gibson had many influences from the NFL including coaching technique from Vince Lombardi and others
But I wasn’t aware that the bomb was a tactic in NFL – I have seen many punts in American football to gain territory but I have never seen a bomb as an attacking weapon
Also, I would have thought that the tactic of kicking the ball high in the air and trying to catch it for your own advantage would have existing in Rugby League well before the 1970’s
You learn something new every day don’t you!

Still; ill be there to change that in a fortnight

| The Kiwi Origin was first mooted by NZRL in 2007. They were going to call it "Kiwi Roots" and it was North v South with the dividing line being the Bombay Hills.

So the fact that the Maoris and Aboriginals were there first means that it isn't a race based team? How about Skippies vs Wogs to follow?
Or over here Whites (original inhabitants so nothing wrong) vs Darkies.

I know. I don't think it time makes it any better. The Lions dropped Batten so they could tour South Africa, does this mean it is okay not to play any non-whites in 2010?
FWIW the original New Zealand Natives had some white players as well as Maori.

| I can't see an NZ origin taking off, there just isn't any natural divide that will spark the emotion of NSW v Qld. For the most part us kiwi's get along and would rather bash another country than each other.
Aboriginal v Maori's would be great to see again, the World Cup curtain raiser was played with more passion than I have seen in most origin games the last few years.

Really? Where does [urlhttp://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news-sport/ceos-meet-to-take-nrl-to-another-level-20101129-18du6.html[/url lead to then?
Quote ="dally messenger"and since you claim to be interested in Kiwi RL why havent you commented on the idea of a Kiwi origin series.'"
I don't claim to be...I do have an interest in Kiwi RL......I get paid to have an interest. Let's clear that up.
As it is, the NRL can bugger off. NZRL need to ensure their fledgling 7 zone comp continues, unlike its earlier attempts. It needs the Auckland branch to tow the line and stop being a pain and the last thing it needs is a "trial" game between Kiwis, that the Australian Clubs can use to fill their ranks with more Kiwi players. 65% of the players in last years Toyota cup were Kiwi Quialified...the production line here is working fine......the 7 zone comp will grow....and the only thing the NRL need to do is get a 2nd NZ team in their comp.....not try to create an origin series for the benefit of the NRL.
Quote ="dally messenger"this is something that has massive marketing potential for the game in nz'"
a stock comment from you with again, nothing to back it up. I get paid to look at and implement marketing campaigns....a keyboard warrior such as yourself should stick to cutting and pasting links.
Quote ="dally messenger"intelligent comments on thread please.'"
Well, you have my opinion on the origin series and why it's not a good thing or something that NZRL should look at yet......I am sure you will come back with more bollox about the demise of Union in NZ.......something that every single Kiwi on here has told you you are wrong about, but hey....carry on. 11 months and counting 'til your master plan has to of happened....
