As a suvverner I look at wakey and Castleford trying to build a pair of white elephants a "nine iron" apart and shake my head..... It's all well and good resisting a merger but christ on a bike at least share 1 new stadium..... Or is the Calder awash with investors throwing cash at clubs with fewer than 4k Gates?'"
The Calder merges into the Aire just before Castleford so and merged team should be called Airedale. Airedale petty criminals or Airedale benefit scroungers would be a good franchise name.

pretty sure Caslelford have been banging on about new stadium since about 2003. they still bang on about it being started already, but all that has happens is somebody has put a fence up and cleared some top soil.

But the whole point is Derek Beaumont chose to do so knowing he would almost certainly not see the money he put in again, and through a combination of his own bad decisions and entrusting key positions to people not up to the job he has failed and left himself and the club considerably worse off then if he hadn't bothered in the first place.
If you choose to spend your money on something and don't do appropriate due diligence around key hires etc. you only have yourselves to blame if you do not get what you intended out of it.
I am sure that when he looks back on his time at Leigh, there are lots of things he would do differently if he had his time again.

With director loans, and other methods of retrieving money from sports clubs, the exact monies put in is never confirmed.
Will the club be in a better or worse position than when he started?
To have the salary cap the same as Super League clubs he put down a bond with the RFL.
[url=https://www.eurosport.com/rugby-league/leigh-set-to-move-for-rangi-chase-after-salary-cap-increase_sto5001789/story.shtmlPenultimate Paragraph[/url
We'll never know how much that bond was.I presume he has retrieved it.
As the reserve side and academy is no more- the tv money is more or less the salary cap - was his payments for LSV as much as Dr Koukash had to pay for losses through low attendances at Salford on a par?
It seems two rich people have come into the sport - DB for the second time - and some may say the change is negligible.
At least Salford remain in Super League.
Paul Rowley invited DB to the club, apparently, yet now the coaching position is uncertain for 2019,and players are still to go elsewhere.
Difficult, from the outside,to see a great difference from the start, and at the finish.
How can things improve for the next individual rich investor who would like to enter the sport?
Very few clubs own stadia and very few clubs have player pathways which lead to consistent success.
Nor is their a plethora of home grown talent making good on the international stage;seemingly reliant on NRL players.
Licensing and 8's tried. What next? Where will the money come from?

Nothing AFAIK at Newmarket (at least for the stadium). At Glasshoughton there's been a couple of drains dug but that's it (major groundworks needed for the build and potentially coal extraction + full planning still to be granted). The timeline shows major roadworks to start Q2/3 this year so only a few weeks to go before that target has slipped, and as yet there are no indications that anything will be starting anytime soon. Cas' last proposed ground on the other side of the road was more advanced than this with the ground levelled and full planning in place; the only slight problem than was no money.

i live in the area and Wakefield met is ridiculous that there is a site with full planning permission adjacent to the Xscape complex right next to M62 about 6 miles from Wakefied and yet neither club has any money or will not mortage themselves to jointly fund a shared stadium, plus Wakefied council could partially fund it. 3 way split 10 million or so each. a 20 year mortgage works out about 1.5 million ish each per year that's only the sky money. Leeds have borrowed to redevelop headingley. if clubs don't want to invest in there own infrastructure and refuse to share why should anybody else just give them something for free.
the other site, well Cas fans are deluded if they think one brick will be laid on there new ground until the shopping complex is both build and all units are filled.

1. Even both clubs combining their resources would not provide anywhere near enough money and who exactly would actually offer them a loan?
2. WMDC haven't got a pot to piddle in and stumping up the ca£10m you suggest wouldn't go down well with the 80odd thousand inhabitants of the district who aren't attendees of the 2 clubs especially considering the cuts of the last few years
3. Both use their Sky money to pay off the mortgage (if they could borrow of course)? So how exactly will they fund running a SL rugby club?
4. Yes, nothing will be built at Glasshoughton until both enough of the units are let to service the loans required for the project and also start to make a profit but, if stadium ever gets built it has to be completed and handed over BEFORE the retail park can open to customers - if you bothered to look up the plan, the stadium build starts before the retail units.

We didn't hear anyone at Leigh moaning about the structure, when we used it to gain promotion, or when we were gifted an extra £500k by the SL clubs, as a golden opportunity to try to get back into SL. We simply employed the wrong group of players, who only learned what the Championship was about, when it was too late to overhaul five sides who were better prepared for it. We are where we are, because of what we did wrong.'"

The underlined is the only bit I agree with. As for mortgages etc, what is Trinity going to mortgage, goodwill and a promise? The Stadium is not owned by the Club. We could have bought it a few years ago but were advised not to by someone att in a position of 'trust' because the developer of Newmarket was going to and redevelop it because it was cheaper than building a brand new one along with the 2 multi-use pitches at Newmarket. Guess what, they didn't and another developer did called 88m, who's also promised big things that haven't materialised into anything.
As for the rest, there is also a site with full planning, which according to Mr Carter when speaking to another SL Club owner of a side in West Yorkshire, that has won a load of silverware the past 15 years or so, that happens to be in the building development business. Apparently says that the site is probably the best commercial development site that hasn't been developed along the M62, but yet this developer has only built one huge building employing only 125 people in 7 years. You may have seen it if you live in the area.
Amazingly even though the developer only got his hands on the green belt land and old Colliery because of an S106, rubber-stamped by the Secretary of State. With a promise to build a Community stadium and other sports facilities for the people in the area to use, seeing as we have next to nothing in the area. Plus the 15k signatures in support of the development around 8 years ago. Said monstrous Cold store building somehow got passed by WMDC but amazingly didn't count towards the 60k square feet they were to build before it triggered the build of the Community Stadium and other sports facilities. Knowing this you can see what Trinity has been dealing with the past 7 years. Funnily when all this was brought to light in a national paper, the Council suddenly started promising all kinds of unfeasible ideas, the latest being to build a Stadium on some land that has no access on some field behind Peacock Estate lol.
it's amazing though that so many stadiums have been built this way up and down the country but not Wakefield. WMDC have allowed a two-bit developer to run rings around them and get away with murder but yet still won't man up and put pressure on the people or tell them to jog on and let a developer with some ethics move in.
Anyway comparing a Club like Leeds, in a City of that size (even compared to the whole of the WMD) with only one SL club which owns its own stadium, that happens to be owned by a man that's worth about £200m really isn't a fair comparison imo.

Excellent post SC - the only thing you missed out though was the involvement of sir Rodney Walker in this fiasco which I'm sure would be of great interest to many on here.

DJB says he can't/won't pay, what else is there for it, only one course of action Liquidation, RIP Leigh Rugby League Football Club.
Incidently I propotion the blame for Leigh's demise unequivocally with the player's, they were brought in to do a job, they came with glowing reputations, so much so most were given 2 year contracts, the first to get them into SL and the second year to consolidate.
Every expert, journalist, tipster before a ball was kicked this season had the Leigh Club through amassing that group of 'elite' players winning the League comfortably, and who would have backed against them doing so?
All you who comment on Leighs demise and why it happened should have been present at the games, they were going through the motions, their body language looked as though they were saying f*^k it, I'm being payed any way, they should be hanging thier heads in shame and walking away. They have managed to wipe out 140 years of history in one season.

Hope so, it would be a lot lesser hurt than liquidation, and far far 1million times better than the other mooted merger with the "Crusties" of Pieland the team from the same Borough, the talk was that life expectancy is numbered at the DW and a major shareholder in the LSV is Wiggin Council, ready made home for them apparently
