BT Sport has won the exclusive rights to show the European Rugby Champions Cup and Challenge Cup from the 2018-19 season to the end of 2021-22.
Up to 134 matches a season will be shown live on TV in the UK and Ireland over nine weekends.

On top of this, BT Sport also has the rights to the Aviva Premiership and the Anglo-Welsh Cup, It will show up to 69 live premiership matches this season.

Super League signing up to a new long term deal with sky early, without going to tender is looking a poor move when BT sport are outbidding Sky for RU.

Folk turn to streaming because that's the only way they can view a lot of sporting events live - not just because it's free. Even if you subscribe to every sports channel going on Sky, there are some games/events that you can't watch (PL games being an example).

That's just another excuse though isn't it. You don't have the right to see everything you want to, whether its a live event or not.

Just because you can stream things doesn't mean its morally or legally correct to do so.

Channel 5 will be airing some of the BT sport RU matches(in full) next season in a deal with the host broadcasters.
RL is so far behind it makes you want to weep.

Pretty sure if the RFL had signed a deal with BT Sport and Channel 5 they'd be posters here complaining of their low subscriber numbers/viewing numbers and how this wouldnt help expand the game.

You are right but what a pity ITV don't show some games on one of their channels they should start with the leagues out side the super league to test the waters

Seems like these changes are imminent, coming into effect from July 18th.
The promo piece from Sky has the RL down on either Sky Sports Action or Sky Sports Arena. Right now it doesn't specify which, so my guess is they will be clever with it and will alternate which channels the RL matches are on thereby forcing us to subscribe to both channels rather than just one of them.
Still no details of prices.

£18 per month for a single channel. £22 for two, £26 for three £27.50 for all sports is reported in the press. It doesn't make it clear if this will be the same for virgin customers.

From what I can see, it is going to work out dearer for me. I currently get Sky Sports for £18 because of the discount you get when you have movies. What i'll end up with is 2 sports channels for an extra £4. Doesn't look great to me.

I don't understand this (taken from the Sky Sports website):

"A new Main Event channel dedicated to the biggest live events from across our channels - available to customers with the full range of Sky Sports channels"

If I've got the full range of Sky Sport channels, why would I need a Main Event channel dedicated to the biggest live events from those channels, unless some events are going to be exclusive to the Main Event channel ?

I've read that a few times myself and come to the conclusion that it must mean that these 'biggest live events' will be exclusive to the Main Event Channel, which will only be available to those with all Sports Channels. I may be wrong, but thats how I've interpreted it. The question is 'what are these biggest live events' going to be?

Agreed. My thinking is very simple - if you can afford something then you can buy it, if you can't afford it then you can't. I would like a new Aston Martin, but I can't afford it/choose not to want to spend that amount on one. Do I a) accept it and buy something different; b) Complain that Astons are too expensive and they should be cheaper so I can buy one, or c) Go and steal one?! The logic of some on here hovers between complaining they are too expensive and going out and stealing one! There are always some people that, just because others can afford something, think that they should also be entitled to have it too. 'I can't afford it, so I'll steal it instead' - great mentality that!

That thought had crossed my mind too. To be honest, it won't effect me as I have all channels currently and have no intention of changing. However, if they do that then I do think it would be a bad move on SKY's part
