| Quote ="DemonUK"Someone mentioned a parachute payment. I do not think that applies. It was only this season as the reduction in SL was a late addition. Now clubs know the score they are expected to plan for it I think by having better contracts that fit into the new structure better. I could comment about Smokeys comments but it really isn't worth it, he just posts more if you do'"
There is a parachute payment made to any team relegated normally from super league. The difference in funding between the team going up and the one coming down is 1 million pounds.......that's where they got the name for it.

Players using him as a gravy train hopefully.
Sure Saints had some class out there last night, BUT
If I gave you Dobson and Chase v Wilkin and Burns (which halfback pairing would you buy)
Greenwood, Percival, Savelio, Thompson (hardly household names)
I think the doctor has come out stating he is willing to splash the cash and Agents have shoved a load of show ponies in his direction..
Take Puletua for example, great player fantastic at Saints and could do fantastic things, but in his last year at Saints you could see the decline, could still pull off the miraculous, but it was getting less and less and his legs were going then.
Hock Wigan to Widnes to Salford (kicked out of England camp) who is signing these players for Salford.
Morley : another big name but in terms of quality also on the downward arch.
BJB: not an old fogey, but there was a reason he was not number 1 at Leeds.
I'd go on, but the agents have seen this guy coming.

| Koukash has gone out and recruited on the basis of a fantasy RL game from around 2010.
If he's "had enough", it's entirely due to the incompetence of his own making.

This. The players aren't good enough. Especially in the pack.

| You can't blame him for being upset. I don't agree with alot of what he says, but he saved Salford, pumped probably north of £5million into it and has been so badly advised its embarrassing

| He's been let down by a lot of people at Salford. Their players aren't good enough to win SL, but there is enough there to make them a very tough team to beat. They have a superb fulback, superb halfbacks and a sizeable pack. What they don't have is any sort of team spirit or unity. I'd suggest they weren't actually trying against Saints, too many people hiding instead of taking the ball, far too many turning their back in defense and not showing the required commitment. He's paid an awful lot of money to keep that club on life support and he's had absolutely no response from anyone, the players, the staff or the fans. It's a club that is in severe danger, he pulls the plug and it looks pretty disasterous for them. Sure they may survive in some kind of Championship 2 FC United of Manchester kind of way, but they are done as a professional outfit if he departs. And why should he stay? He's handed over £5m+ and no one is even trying to make it work. Sure he's crass at times and needs to keep off Twitter, but he's right to be annoyed and could hardly be blamed if he walked away.

It is. A vile tweet and one that should see him prosecuted. I sincerely hope the RLIF or whoever is in charge of things ensures he's banned from the sport. He's a very limited person and one we don't need in our sport.
Looking through his Twitter postings, it seems he's incredibly bitter about everything in life, stemming from him being left without pay by Crusaders. He seems particularly venemous about Iestyn Harris, but then he does seem to be hated by all the players he worked with as a coach.

| He could and should be blamed if he walks away. It's his decisions and his responsibility. He has taken complete charge of Salford so if Salford "doesn't work" or "fails" then it's Marwan Koukash's failure.
For the record I don't think Salford are failing, I think they're headed in the right direction (in general). I just hope he's more patient behind the scenes than he is in the media/in public. It's going to take a decade of continued investment, hard work and consistently good decisions made at all levels of the club for Salford to become a contender for silverware.
It took Leeds nearly that time and they were starting from a massively higher base than Salford.

I don't think he's expecting the title this year. He's just expecting the players to put some effort in, they clearly weren't against Saints.

| Swap Koukash for Davy and Salford would be in a much better place now.
It seem to me for every quid Koukash puts in he want a pound of flesh out of it.
The smaller English football club under foreign ownership spring to mind

| No one to blame but himself. Makes you wonder how he has made so much money if this is the general quality of his leadership and strategic planning? Rather than lay out a realistic 5 year plan. Building the infrastructure, jnr programs, marketing and team he wants instant success and thinks throwing lots of money at ageing stars will buy him it. Sorry mate sport rarely works out like that.

I guess the difference is that he made his millions in a business in which he was an expert; and made further millions by taking up horse-racing, where he was advised by other experts.
He seems to have blundered into the RL world without any knowledge beyond enjoying watching St Helens, and has been advised by a series of people who didn't have a clue how to build for long term success; fantasy RL is an enjoyable diversion, but it's not a blueprint to build a viable club.
I'm sure there are CEO's and Coaches out there who could have taken the money and enthusiasm he brought to the table to create something fantastic - sadly, they weren't at Salford.

| All the money he's spent, top of the shopping list should have been an experienced club ceo, marketing manager and player manager for recruitment. Not sure what he has spent his 5mill on considering the SL grant covers 50% of the players wage bill?

I agree with the first part - and without making specific allegations, I'd be very surprised if that team of mercenaries was put together within the salary cap.
I also understand that he's spent a fair whack on training facilities and the youth set-up?

That article contains nothing but speculation. It's also very poory written, resembling a journalists notes for an article he's about to write more than an article itself.

| But lets go along with the speculation for a while and assume he pulls out of Salford. Is there any kind of fall back plan for them at all? Do they have other part owners or Directors who could support the club if he were to pull out? Does Koukash have any sort of legal obligation to the RFL?

The only other director of both Salford City Reds (2013) Limited and its parent company, Mkac Investment Partners Limited, is an Andrew Chalmers. Presumably, there is enough cash from SKY coming in to sustain the playing squad for the remainder of the season (the SKY money should more than cover the salary cap), without needing any more investment at the moment/
That would assume that someone wanted to buy the club off Koukash, and they could agree a fee with him.
Worst case, I guess he could just pull the plug, sack everyone and wind up the business if he wanted to.
