I'd suggest that 99% of the population of Castleford are aware of the Rugby League team, therefore 89% of your population made the choice not to go to the match.
I would suggest that 5%-10% of the population of Richmond are aware of Harlequins RL, so capturing 1% of the total population is pretty good going.
Leeds got about 13000 on Friday night. Lets say there are 700000 people in Leeds, so they got about 2% of the population. Disgraceful by Leeds, obviously.

If quins can only make 5% of the population in there local area aware that they even exist then that is an absolutley terrible effort from quins, if they cant at least get the local people to know they exist then we might as well replace them with skolars and see if they can do a better job. If you have a marketing department sack them now.
As for the cas game we always get poor attendances playing on friday and saturdays on sky, move it to a sunday and it would add at least a thousand to the gate, take it off sky and you get a thousand more. Playing on a sunday, not on sky we got 8.5k last week with about 1-1.5k of away fans. I myself could go to this match because of work but would have been able to had it been a sunday.
We are top of the league say we are top of the league.

Did you see the part "I would suggest" ?
What gives you reasons to doubt that it might be correct?
What do you think of Leeds' poor (according to your logic) crowd?

Yep. Our marketing department has been slated for years, it is quite pathetic, I agree. But we have only been in the area for 5 years whereas your lot have been there for 100 (?), so I'd give us a bit more time yet

We get panned every week for our crowds. Why don't Castleford?

Because we generally have decent crowds averaging around 7-7.5k. It's only last season, again due to certain factors, that this decreased.
Believe it or not, yesterday's attendance was an improvement on last season of 16.2%.

Because its very rare we get a crowds so bad and we average more than salford, wakey, quins and crusaders and are not far off hudds, cats and kr?
It would have been hard to slag us of last week for a 8.5k crowd wouldnt it?

| Congratz. And by the the way, I wasn't trying to "achieve" anything, I thought this had evolved into a discussion of Castleford's support rather than turning it into a thread bashing Harlequins. But then I suppose its an easy point of reference for a Castleford fan attempting to defend their poor crowd.

For a rugby league town such as Castleford, I think you could get far better crowds. And I think you will, if/when you get a new stadium.

No one is bashing Harlequins, in fact, I think Cas fans are generally appreciative of Harlequins and the factors they have to take into consideration.
Similarly, a lot of our fans realise that the attendance last night was disappointing but we have factors to take into consideration and I'm not going to go over old ground by listing them again.
But by continuing this argument makes you just seem petty. I can't see the same amount of energy your displaying on here going into praising our youth development, our onfield successes so far or anything else positive.

Not those on this thread, by the looks of things.

That is very fair, unlike your brothers who decide to bring the population of Richmond into their defence.

I'm not continuing the argument slagging Castleford off, all I did was attempt to defend my own side, like you are doing. This is a discussion forum, is it not? It is the same on the Harlequins forum, I don't really see the point in discussing success stories. It's not particularly interesting. Challenges and problems are interesting - the reasons for them, and the reasons to get over them.

If you look through our attendances in sl we have generally averaged about 7k, despite most years being nearer the bottom of the table than the top we've got two of the 5 games we usually get poor attendances in (hudds, salford, cats, crusader and quins) out of the way now, when we host, wire, leeds, fc, wigan, wakey and bradford we will get 7, 8 and 9k crowds.

| Dave, what do you think the crowd will be against us at your place? We won't bring many as it won't be feasible for most on a Friday evening? Do you think the Friday experiment will work?

I think the crowd will be 3200. I imagine you will bring more than Huddersfield did on our last Friday night game, and a few more of our supporters will crawl out of the woodwork seeing as we are winning a few matches.
If it was a Saturday night, with your supporters making a day/weekend out of it, and our supporters being able to make a day out of it rather than rushing from work/not being able to make the match, we could get 4000 I think.
I don't like Friday nights and I don't think it will work, our kick offs should be Saturday 3pm or Saturday 6pm.

I seriously can't see many coming. Few of us are but its required booking time off work, hotel etc. Been twice previously on a sunday and the crowds have been respectable.
I noticed the Saints coach had a dig at your away following on friday night. Again though, what does he expect, its hardly practical travelling from london to widnes on a week day night.
