Tackled without the ball resulting a player being held up, is that not a penalty try then?

I'm confused by some of the decisions here.

The only thing that Magic Weekend shows is how flipping inconsistent the refs are. When the games are back to back like this you can see how it's essentially the referee that dictates the pace of the game. If all referees had the same rules and interpretations then teams could adapt and become more consistent and the game could flow, however when one ref lets most of it go and then the other is James Childs, it's like 2 different games.

A game with so much potential is being wrecked by Childs.

I thought Child has been spot on this half tbh. Same old arguments on here year after year, "let the game flow". Players offend, not the referee.

But its just the inconsistencies! Child is one extreme where pretty much everything gets penalised compared to the rest who don't pick up on most of it.

Whoever this commentator is (I think it's Bill Arthur) they're terrible. Time and time again he's misreading the plays, calling penalty when it's forward passes, knocks ons when it's penalties and has just misread the referee signal to stop the clock. Very poor, to us it may not really matter but to any new viewers who don't really know the game then they're going to struggle when the commentators don't.

So far all I see is how THICK the players are.

They have had discussions with the match officials prior to the new season as have the coaches about the rules/laws and interpretations.

If they are too thick to understand then that's their problem not the match officials!

So who's fault is it all the refs so far have had a different interpretation then?

Saints look lost without Cunningham. Enough territory to build a city and didn't even look like scoring. Wigan get one lucky break from a stupid big hit attempt from Soliola and capitalise straight away.

Bizarre call for the no try against Saints. What have they given it for?

It is something they need to explain. The referee said the first one was fine. The only thing they could have called on was the second knock on/pass. That was clearly a pass, dropping it out under the arm. Absolutely horrendous decision.

The ball seemed to go along the floor to me, which would indicate a knock on as opposed to a forward pass.

he passed it though. you could tell by the position his hand was in when he released the ball - it doesnt matter that it went along the floor, it was a pass rather than a knock on.

Oh come on. He clearly passes it. Even if he doesn't, it doesn't go forward.

Saints could play until the Grand Final here and not score. As rusty as the belt I left out in the garden in 1987 and found last week.

That was an odd decision. Probably killed the game as well.
