| AwFuL is big in it's own mind only, the garbage the AFL have gone on with since SOO 3 is amazing, they have shown the whole country over the last week how scared and vulnerable they really are.
It's been quite funny

which country is that.
in australia RL is the biggest sport when you include both TV viewing figures and crowds. and that ignores our team in NZ.
15 australian RL teams do more than 16 AFL teams.

The pinnacle of Rugby League is the world cup
- those who win it are the best in the world
- that just happens to be New Zealand not Australia.
The aussies simply beleived their own media and hype and did not get themselves up for the most important match, watch their faces afterwards - they were all completely gutted. This makes them second best on more than one count.
You resort to bigging up your own competition to hide your embarrassment and bruised ego.
There are few that care about SOO outside Aus.

the pinnacle of RL is Origin.

anybody that thinks international isnt much more than a joke doesnt watch much.
2 upset wins in finals is supposed to make it competitive?
heck, NZ couldnt beat australia for years in between those wins.
and of course the standard of footy is worse as well.
its why each origin game gets double the TV viewers the RLWC got in australia.
people just dont care about the RLWC here vs origin

| In answer to the original title, we have been taking the "aussie influence" since 1982 and look where we are still!!!
Contrary to your opinion that everything "aussie" is fine, I would suggest that although there is a lot regarding media and promotion that could be learned, the main thing is how to structure and develop the game.
That will never change, well in my lifetime anyway, due to the inward thinking, myopic view of the game that the clubs have.

| The original line of the thread stated that "Australia are the dominant force in World footy"
Being seeded No 1 and actually producing the goods when it matters are two different things entirely.
Distracting the thread to SOO is just that a distraction.

Why should I value your myopic judgment. A truer test would be to ask any aussie what colour shirt he would rather wear - "green and gold" perhaps .

easy.
if you ever came to sydney and saw how aussies treat RL youd know what we are talking about.
for 55% of australia, their major footy code is RL.

the big problem is a small minded mentality from some clubs where its old fashioned ways of doing things.
SL done really well so far since its been brought in. i think the next decade will see a big improvment in on field stuff and quality of juniors.

I, like others, respond to give a balanced viewpoint. If you are not capable of debate go back and finish your schoolwork.

| If super league is so poor and England is rubbish at rugby league then why does Barry McKenzie spend half is life writing about in on here?
For something that's not important to convicts he loves to bang on about it.
I wonder how he as the cheek when he's a fan of a 2nd rate Aussie team.
In some ways he is correct, we shouldn't have so many convicts over here as crime we defo be on the up with the Aussies here.
Rape, glassing women, drugs, drink probelems is not what we want playing in super league.
The worst thing this country did when we shipped all our convicts to oz, was not to build a wall round them.

living in a place where RL is so big does give me a feeling of superiority over soccer fans who watch RL in summer as many people on this forum do.

Not sure where you get your crowd figures from, are you include SOO and world cups??
League rules on viewing figures, probably because the fans in Sydney are too lazy to go to a game.
AFL is no1 in W.A,VICTORIA,S.A.and also has a prescence on NSW,QLD,and play games in Tassie.
NRL doesnt really register anywhere oitside the East coast(storm excepted) and the crowds at the Warriors are hardly anything to do withAustralians.Prety sure AFL get more for their TV deal than we do.
When i see the money and effort they are putting inup here(Gold Coast) for their new team,it worries me! Titans crowds have dropped this year even though we are going well, but probably the most expensive footy side to watch in the NRL.
You can bet the AFL will eat into the crowd a bit when they are up and running?
Soccer has by far the most jumiors playing,if the A-League can go from strength to strength it could become the dominant code in 10-15 years.

yes when you look at both crowds and TV ratings, RL is a long way in front.
RL generates 40 million more viewers each year than AFL, more than enough to cover the crowd difference in favour of AFL.
further, as ive said before, this excludes the NZ Warriors.
yeah, the ARL sure did a bang up job developing RL here.
