Yeah they would only an idiot would be judging him on his performance with a Bradford side being dismantled infront of his eyes 7 years ago. Since then he has done a decent job for England, been an assistant at a couple of NRL sides and far more than the usual suspects who get named or someone like Justin Holbrook or Michael Maguire before he came over.

He might not turn this season round but I reckon he'll have them back where they should be next time (no, not the championship

In fact the more I think about it the more I think he could do a job there.

McNamarra is a good coach who demands professionalism from his players, something Catalans need. He made a lot of progress with England, who were a lot closer to winning a competition than when he took over. Unfortunately some fans unrealistically want instant success and will criticise anyone who doesn't deliver it. The same will happen with Wayne Bennett.

He is a crap coach.

The only peopl who would welcome this appointment are flat capers who do not want RL outside of the M62 corridor.

I actually think its a good choice, and will good job down there. Can't be any worse than the clown they just had for the last few years.

He gets way too much stick imo for his job at the Bulls and he did very well with England with what he had.

Yeah agree with that, the Bulls mess I don't think can be laid at his door. That was his first gig also and comes back with NRL and international experience. He should at least negotiate the Middle 8's for them as that was looking dodgy for them they way they were playing, he might even help them avoid it altogether and sneak into the Top 8.

Does he speak French?

Nice lad, good coach but having seen some of his interviews his English needs practice let alone French.

To be fair every coach can learn from there past victories and defeats. He has won silverware and to be fair his bad reputation has mainly started from managing the Bulls. I don't think Darell Powell's current skills could of turned that clubs downward spiral around.

I think he'd be good for them. He has potential to be there for a long time and certainly his NRL experience puts him ahead of pretty much anybody in the Northern hemisphere who might have been interested.

I've been one of his biggest critics on RLFans, largely due to his comedy impact on the Bulls.

I think he was pretty good for England, but I'm still not sure if he has what it takes to be more than a good assistant at domestic level. We'll see, but there's no reason that with so much NRL experience that he won't do a lot better this time around in SL.

Hopefully he'll turn that 'sard around.

There's no guarantees, but at least the guy has clearly looked at making himself a better coach. Technically and in terms of understanding what goes on in the NRL he's way ahead of any other British coach. Whether that translates on the field is another matter, but I think he deserves a chance. He makes far more sense as a head coach than some recently retired ex-player with no experience.

But I am really pleased for Catalan and from where they were to winning a CC I think he has to be in the running for coach of the season .
