You should have said. Me and Sheldon (from Hull) went today also.

| I was only joking,.
On Friday night, I couldn't believe the way the promotions were being spouted across the PA, and the Parra Parra Parra was even worse.

| Sit in the Burrow with the Sth's fans, as close to an english crowd as you'll get but not within a mile of an english game atmosphere. You think Wigan's got a ltd song repertoire go to an NRL game!

Yeah you're right, done that and they're good, and quite noisy on the hill today too. Just a shame Souths often have 15,000 people in an 80,000+ stadium, never will understand why that happens so often (guess it's financial), miles better to be in a proper home ground like at the Eels, Manly or even the Dragons these days.

OK, will do when I'm over properly - think we met at Penrith in WC08. Probably going to be living in Mosman, so plan to pop over and see the Bears at the Oval (think it's only a couple of miles from there?), never been and be good to have a proper local side.

| I was at Kogarah for the Dragons-Cowboys, and the PA only announced the scorers and the replacements. Really good, enthusiastic crowd, gorgeous weather, great day out. Winning must help.

| Going back maybe 10 years, I used to watch the Roosters at the SFS/Aussie Stadium (whatever it's called these days) and you could hear a pin drop for 90% of the game - with the exception of one bloke who'd sometimes turn up in a shirt and tie. He used to chant Roosters and cluck around, climbing over seats and trying to get people going. One of the weirder things I've seen at an RL game. Nobody joined in - it's like singing at an NRL game is frowned upon or something?

| I was at the Eels v Tigers game on friday and the atmosphere was a little up and down despite a good display by the Eels and just short of 20k there. Always surprises me how the Aussie crowds fail to turn up the volume when their team is attacking close to the line, whereas i'm bellowing my lungs out.
Went to see a few Bears games when I first got to Aus and although the quality was good I couldnt help feeling a little depressed at the lack of support in the stadium for this once great club. Hopefully the next round of franchises (dirty-diirrty word) will redress that.

| to be fair the Bunnies and the Dragons fans are quite vocal for over here and have rehashes of English songs for their sides.
In fact there was a lovely thing recently as the Newtown Jets and even some junior rep sides victory song is the Barmy Army song. As in "everywhere we go" etc. I recently saw on facebook a female dragons fan tell a newtown official that it was "stolen off the dragons army!!" Bless.

Mount Smart has the best atmosphere of the NRL grounds I have been to so far.

Unlikey defender of the Pies coming in peace
I was at the Quins game Saturday, Wigan fans never shut up, sang roughly 7 or 8 different songs throughout too.

Was just thinking that myself. Were do people think up these myths at all?? Im sure more or less every team had limited songs in the 80s/early 90s. Id say wigan now have the most songs, by quite some distance.

| You watch the last State of Origin match and the commentators sound actually stunned by the fact the crowd are cheering. I think that says it all.
I fully agree, their skill and rugby standard is better than SL...but watching the games you could hear a pin drop - I for one don't like that, a roaring crowd is far better than a boring one all wearing matching shirts and baseball caps

On a slight tangent, are the Manly cheerleaders as good as I've led to believe?

We have about 6-7 new songs just for this season I think! We had a few last year as well. No idea why most fans have a dig at Wigan when most fans sing 'we love you..... we do' and '....till i die, I know I am, I'm sure I am...'
Even a Warrington fan says we didn't shut up all game on saturday!

I have been, and you are right. No atmosphere at all. I had wanted to go and see Brisbane play since I was a boy. They got smashed by the Roosters. Oh well, at least I can say I've been.
