That was shocking, they bring in 'experts' to discuss the finer points of the game, yet they were all clueless when commenting on a straightforward decision.

, its all a conspiracy to keep saints winning all trophies so people wont notice we have no supporters, rubbish ground, cheat in every conceivable way, players are all 78 years old etc. etc.

The Catalans try that was chalked off for a forward pass. The interpretation of 'backwards' seemed a bit variable for a number of knock-ons (Cats)/ dropped balls (Saints). Saints played some sublime Rugby and deserved to win by 15-25. The ref was therefore worth between 9 an 19 points, [iIMO[/i. It didn't alter the result, but it did damage the spectacle.

This happens in all sports for all successful teams, always has, always will. A big team's line is up so quickly because they are aggressive in defence, a little team must be offside. We all want to avoid Saints in the cup both because we know they are a good team, but also because we suspect that those 50/50, benefit of the doubt decisions are likely to go their way. It is a bitter pill, but in RL at least it still gets passed around over the years and decades, which is some consolation.

So that helps prove that refs always favour Saints at home ...

At the end of the day, Catalan go high and mess about at the PTB, everyone knows they do, it shows in the amount of penalties they have conceded, Saints also do this, but they don't get penalised as much for it, Saints are talented and have the skill to win, they don't need to mess about at the PTB but they seem to do this.

I read what had been posted up to your post, to which I responded.

This thread was started about a particular team 'bending' the rules.

Another poster claimed that refs are 'nice' to a particular team – especially when that team is at home.

It was subsequently pointed out that a particular 'bending of the rules' was happening across the board. Which, unless, penalties were only applied to one team for such an offence, suggests that this 'bending of ye old world rules' is not limited to any one team.

Ergo, the title and main tenet of this thread is bølløcks.

Top teams get the 50/50 calls going in their favour, doesnt matter what the sport, what the ref, so yes, in context of the thread title, it is innacturate, Leeds should also be in there



As it happens I think for the most part Thaler had a good game, and wasnt giving calls in anyones favour (though I do think the forward pass call to deny cats was wrong)

My personal point was that at a stage where the game was still in reach of a Cats side who have shown the can make a big come back Thaler made two calls that were utterly incorrect and within a couple of minutes the game was over as a contest.

So in this case two, almost identical, bad calls turned the game from a contest to a whitewash.

I love all this anti-saints stuff. It just goes to show that you all still fear them.

Might as well have named the thread "Everyone who is jealous of saints post here"

They were both at best 50:50 - had they been given Catalans way, I wouldnt have complained too heartily. Does the benefit of doubt to the attacking team not come into this?

Saints were in possession, the ball rattled round and both times a player from each team was holding onto the ball, it seems logical to play on with the attacking team in possession in that situation.

Anyway, on the second one Carlaw knocked on, so it should have been a scrum to Saints anyway.

I don't agree. I think Thaler's interpretation was pretty much spot-on. I have to fault him on his communication though - he don't call who had the ball and there was also the panalty against Baile where Thaler had called "play on" and then he penalised Baile for a "second" tackle.
I don't think the decisions would have changed the match result, as I think Saints wanted it more than we did and our game plan was not the right one to beat Saints at KR.
What it does change is 3 penalties on the stats that allows tim791 to spout the kind of nonsence he does.

Christ, since I first watching Wigan in 1989 we've won 29 trophies - and I don't know Rogues but I do know he has many more years than me watching Wigan, so he could easily have seen us win more than Saints OR Leeds ever have.
