| Quote ="Superted"Salford, Swinton, Manchester... It doesn't really matter - they're all holes on the wrong side of the hills!
I really like what the Dr is doing over at Salford - yeah he's no doubt circumventing the salary cap, and he's trying to buy his way to success initially, but if he's around for the long term, it can only be a good thing for Salford and the game in general. It's no different to what Moran has done at Wire and they are in great shape now. The only difference is Moran has done it alot quieter, and the Dr seems intent on enhancing the game as a whole rather than just his club.
He tweeted recently that he'd like one of his 'friends' to get involved with the Bulls - the more the merrier for me. He's adding profile to the sport, throwing money around and seems to genuinely have fallen in love with the game.'"

Any club that is willing to give a six figure salary for the next four years and willing to pay a transfer fee.
Good (not great) signing for Salford, ever club needs a solid workhorse in their squad and Salford now have one.

I understand your point that he was raised as a Salford lad and even if he was born elsewhere home is where the heart is but at least get your facts right when you are challenging someone as you make it easy for comebacks if you don't.
Cronus, the City of Salford is run from the town of Swinton. Oh how foolish of me, I cannot see any facts that you insinuate I posted or indeed that I need to get right? Posting ridiculous allegations on a forum isn't my style. Maybe you should take note.

I was hoping Cronus would clarify where HH is from and not as he previously quoted above in bold. which I can see was clearly lost in translation on salford1970. I am happy Cronus has done his research on wiki and we can hopefully end the debate on whether HH is from Swinton or Salford.

So 'welcome home' would only really be appropriate had he signed for New Zealand Warriors.

Erm, Black Cat. Above is what you wrote. Just so you know, he's from Auckland.
So much for you giving me advice on fact eh?
You actually ask Cronus where he was born and it wasn't Salford.

| Our marquee signings last year were Vic Mauro, Liam Foran and Ryan McGoldrick. If our fellow rugby league fans are seriously surprised we have sent the giddyometers in Salford into over-drive you need to take a look at the situation and put yourself in the shoes of a Salford fan.

| Also, this time last year we were given Jack Murphy on loan by Wigan (a young kid who wont make it as a Super League player, but may do something in the lower leagues) who was awful during his short spell with us. 12 months later and we've gone and paid a transfer fee and signed one of their best players who has a pivotal member of the team which won the league and cup double and is in his prime on a four-year-deal.
Excuse us.

Well as more than one person mistook what you were writing I would suggest that you need the penny to drop with you that your post was ambiguous. You came across as a Salford fan unaware of HH's birthplace, only that he was a Salford lad through and through and you didn't like Cronus's arguments.
Nice if you could join a debate and not confuse the issue by seeming to side one way when you were actually going the other way.
And don't slam the door on the way out if you plan to continue your hissy fit, you won't be missed.

If Salford can keep Hansen fit, they will have one of the best back rowers in SL for next year. A spectacular player he isnt, but as a work horse he is very effective and will be a good buy for them.
That said, he only managed 14 SL games last year for Wigan (including playoffs) so missed over half of the season, and was forced to miss the entire WC through injury as well. By paying no doubt a big fee, and paying him massive amounts - would have been on a fair whack at Wigan and leaving now will see him miss out on a testimonial - he could prove to be an expensive crock. Only time will tell which way it will pan out, but if fit Hansen will be a quality buy for the Dr

Well, correct me if im wrong but i dont think Hansen has been an injury prone kind of player throughout his time at Wigan and pretty much every player is going to have a time in their career when they have a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
At 28 and in his prime this is a great capture for the Red Devils and adds plenty to a squad which is really taking shape with plenty of quality added already.Im looking forward to seeing how they get on this year, they will need to keep most of the front line side fit throughout but if they get that bit of luck then top 5 or 6 is certainly not beyond them.

| Nice words Biff.
To be honest if we get 5th or 6th I for one would be chuffed to bits, getting 8th will be massive for us. The main thing is that we have a squad like we have never had before and for once we approach the season reasonably optimistic which is kind of weird tbh.

While it's great Salford are going to be more competitive next year, and I'm sure they'll become a force to be reckoned in the coming years, who do you honestly believe Salford can displace from Wigan Warrington saints Leeds and Huddersfield?
I think Salford will be challenging for the playoffs next year, but would place those 5 above and then challenging with the two hull team and les cat (who I feel have a big season coming up) challenging for 6,7,8.
Hansen is your first really good signing, and there's lots of opportunity to follow it up next year as lots of talent is out of contract, but for this year, a playoff run should be the realistic aim.
My only concern is how many overseas players are in your team now?!? (As it's been established he's from Auckland )

Your probably joking? as you say he was born in Auckland but came over here at a very young age. He's what you call home grown, all his rugby has been learnt and played here.

They probably wont finish top 5 but like i say if things fall right it is more than possible.Who would have predicted Hudds. to finish top of the pile last season or even top 4 for that matter before the season began? certainly not me.The way the bigger sides approach the regular season these days, aiming to peak for the play offs then the opportunity is there early on for a team like Salford to make a good solid start and hang on for a decent finish.
Like i say, things will have to go in their favour for that to happen and as Salford fans have said themselves a top 8 finish will do them nicely, and i expect them to at least achieve that now with the quality they have brought in.

...and that's exactly what happened in 2005 when we finished 5th at the end of the regular season - set off like a house on fire and faded badly towards the end. Arguably, we've got a better side with miles more strength in depth this time around and the benefit of being coached by the master, rather than one his apprentices. There's every chance that we could end up in the top 4.

I never said he was, but the point I was making is if the injury he has got is a bad one, or has a high chance of re-occurring then that may have had something to do with Wigan's decision to let him go. Time will tell...as said before I think Hansen is a quality player and will do well for Salford, but as a fan I would be slightly concerned if my team signed a player for very big money who had missed over half of the previous season and was selected to captain his country at the World Cup and couldnt make it onto the field. Or is it irrational of me to think that could be a risk??

| Wigan got a transfer fee for a player who would be walking at the end of the season when out of contract (his words) and the HH got a pay rise and a long contract.
Not concerned with the injury, not playing in the WC has given him recuperation time that he otherwise wouldn't have had.
Players get bad injuries and recover, others don't but my guess is that if Wigan were offering him a contract as well they weren't to concerned with the injury and neither should we be.

| I think HH is a very good signing for Salford.
When the money starts to get splashed about, people think of signing like Hock and Chase, but no team will function without solid players like Hansen to do the hard work and he's one of the best in the business at it imo.
