Wrexham to Widnes is a lot closer than Gateshead to Hull.

They havent even moved though yet and are still classed as a South Wales club. What would be the point of merging something that doest even exist as such. Widnes dont need a merger, were well capable of sustaining ourselves.

I wonder how much Mr Samuels wants for his club? I mean what would stop the Widnes owner buying Celtic and then move the licence to Widnes. After all the RFL have already publically stated there is nothing in the rules about moving location. Mind you, if that was to happen, I don't think the RFL would be too impressed and would fully expect Widnes to lose that licence next time round.

Widnes should do what they have done since the day the licences were announced - stay out of any debate, unless it is to publically support the RFL and to wish any club in SL luck.

The Crusaders look like going the same way as Gateshead, lets not try and patch it up and make it work. A meger with Widnes would save the situation and ensure that a least everyone comes out with something. The last thing the game wants is for the Crusaders to go belly up in May next year, that would be very damaging.

Widnes need to be in the SL and SL needs them in.

The next thing we need to do is look at the way we are throwing these developing teams into the fray and then leaving them to flounder. Gateshead where not given the support the RFL promised and I bet the South Wales team have had much the same level of support. I think we pushed both teams into the top flight to enhance our claim to be more then a Northern sport. Twice we have failed and I suspect it will always fail without a good supporting network of amateur teams. London is slowly getting there and we need to nurture that, the French was always going to be successful due to the game being strong there. Wales is a pipe dream that is not going to happen, we keep trying and we keep failing.

Learn the lesson and move on to another area, if you must but don't rush it. We can not, should not draft teams into SL willy nilly anymore,.

Question though, why should Widnes be used as the vehicle save face as it were and to mop up the mess made by the RFL?

Simply because they are about the only club who could at short notice take up the challenge of SL now. Leigh are well out of it Fax could be but the time thing would work against them.

The mess has to be cleared up as any failures mid season would be far more damaging for the sport as a whole. The union hacks would have a field day and if the RFL helped them one or two other clubs would also taken on the role of wounded ducks.

We'd spend week after week getting tonked, the development of the players we have recently promoted to the 1st team (some of which I would hope can take us in to SL in 2 years) would suffer immeasurably, we'd lose fans, the board will lose the fans confidence and all in the name of sorting out an utter farce.

We've been sacrificed too many times "for the good of the game". We accepted Les Catalans with grace, we eventually accepted Crusader's inclusion to SL with grace, I very much doubt anyone connected with the club would accept this in any way shape or form if they value the work that's currently going on to secure our immediate and long term future.

It's a none starter for me, we need to keep building before 2012 if not 2011. We want our day out in Blackpool again for one thing

What if the RFL funded the Wrexham SL club for 2010 to ensure they didn't fold halfway through the season but asked if Widnes would be prepared to move up for 2011 with a guaranteed 4 season licence ?

That would be a much more appealing and respectable offer. I think during the next 12 months the club could move into the position where it can make an effective contribution to Super League.

All of this aside and I think it's been repeated already, Steve O'Connor has stated that the RFL has not made any approach whatsoever towards Widnes and that Super League 2012 is still the target.

We have done. All messes successfully mopped. Biggest lesson? Same as Celtic - be very careful who your chairman/money man is. If he has 'form', then don't think it won't happen all over again. Don't be blinded by offers of funding - if he's done something 'off' in the past, he'll do it again and help screw your club up or hold it back when you need to move forward.

Don't bother with it mate, it is a parasite. Logic and reason just don't register and it will come back with yet more e. It thrives off being fed, you have to feel sorry for it really. A pathetic existence as a messageboard troll is about the best it gets, can't be much fun really.

Thats the only way that any team can be an asset to super league. Any team that has earned the right is going to make the biggest difference. Widnes have put so much effort into their bid for super league and have had no reward, I would pick them over at least 3 current super league teams.
