Yes. The IRB has no interest in League. In Australia, the only country where League is by far the stronger code, the IRB are busy trying to attract more players and fans by getting a 5th Super Rugby

franchise in place. This is not part of some final solution, but instead a simple business strategy....they want to get a bigger share of the money that is available from Sly Sports (Fox). In the rest of the world, where Union is the stronger code, they have no fear of League.....to be honest, I doubt they give it a second thought. The UK, the second strongest League country is dominated by soccer...and always will be. Union, when they won the RUWC targeted soccer fans who had become disenchanted with the overpaid and overcharging, together with the complete wall to wall media domination of the sport. League doesn't even register on the RFU's radar......why should it? London/Quins haven't exactly stolen a march on nicking union fans from their multi-coloured landlords.....league haven't pinched a decent union player since Jonnathon Davies and if Chris Ashton is the answer for the England Union team, I say it must have been a stupid question in the first place.

So, next up are the other 5 nations in the 6 nations.......and apart from South West France and wrexham there is no other major Rugby League activity to mention........ Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France and Italy's Unions have no reason to fear League.......why would they? South Africa......no league. Union Sevens...an olympic sport.......the RU world cup (regardless of the accusations that will come back at me) registered as a major international TV event.....yeah...I am sure the old farts in Dublin are really bricking it over League



Your insecurities are based on the behaviour of the Vichy French, their use of power to destroy League during the occupation of Southern France and a few other historic events. It is people like you, who live in the past, that have presided over league for the last 20 years....whilst the elitest, old school tie networking and boring sport of Rugby Union has turned professional and turned a profit on the international stage........if you keep looking over your shoulder, you will eventually walk over a cliff......
I would estimate that in 1980 there would have been more replica CLUB League shirts in wardrobes along the M62 than replica England Union Shirts in the whole country..........in 2010, I would estimate that there are more replica England INTERNATIONAL Union shirts in wardrobes in the UK than any and every type of League shirt combined.......that's the type of progress Union has made.....and it was driven with 1 motive.....Money.

The IRB, RFU, ARFU, NZRFU etc...are all driven by the same thing League is......cash. There is no hiddedn or open agenda to destroy league.......

Your contribution to these boards is to post links to an Australian Rag........try to back up other posters theories with theories of your own and generally behave like a child when anyone disagrees with you.
I just responded to a question as to why the IRB are not trying to kill off league....your response to that was typical. It had no counter argument, nothing new, nothing of any interest and was generally a waste of your and my time.

I can't speak for the Southern Hemisphere, but I suspect gutterfax makes some good points about RU's "agenda" in Europe.

RL is only strong in a small area of Northern England, elsewhere RU is a far more popular game, and I suspect that the RFU don't perceive it as a threat/challenger for the sporting pound. RU is trying to increase its market share by chipping away at the football monopoly.

If the RFU did have an agenda against RL, I suspect they don't anymore becuase it's job done........RL is a minority, regional sport in Europe.

I suspect it is different in Australia where RL and AFL battle for the no.1 spot
