So Pitts who played 15 out of 16 games doesnt count as a player that has came through the academy and established himself as a regular first team player at Wakefield,i think most people would disagree.

I laugh when I think of Wakefield developing junior players, yet they develop junior players ten time better than Hull FC!

I wish we wouldn't post things like this on the terrace. It just opens the discussion up to people who want to disprove what is being said.

Wakefield are happy with the current youth development. We can only beat the other teams in the league, win the trophy and sign the players. The rest is in the future. Why look for approval from other club supporters. It's there as a fact, we have done well.

As for previous youth development, of course we have had one, it isn't as big a system as Leeds or Wigan but it is there and we produce good players, not all world beaters but some are. Let's be proud of that too.

What difference does it makes if pitts is now at leeds? wakefield still developed him as a player, and he was a first team regular. Just because he is no longer at wakefield that doesnt mean that he wasnt developed by wakefield from academy into regular first team level. Did brough come through the wakefield academy? yes. is he a first teamer at wakefield now? yes.

Pitts may go on to be a regular SL player, he may not, but he certainly hasnt made it as an SL player after 15 games

Kear has stated that he is happy to run with a squad of approximately 21/22 with the addition of 7 players from the academy winning side. Therefore you'd imagine that the likes of Murphy & Morton will get games in the backs again and possibly a couple of games for either Southernwood or Davy if/when some of our pivots get injured.

Initially the lads will struggle to make the 17 man squad, but a few older players (Demetriou, Morrison, Henderson, Newton) are coming to the end of their careers. By that time i'd hope some of those academy players will have developed and progressed sufficiently to take over the mantle and become regulars in the 17.

I for one cannot wait to see this batch develop.

John Kear and Ted Richardson also stated that there will be a number of additional signings announced in November.

The sad thing about this thread is that ... in the past 3 or 4 seasons both Castleford and Wakefield Trinity have made MASSIVE strides in the development of junior grade rugby league... adding two more centres of excellence (... and... I understand that word may be contetious in the eyes of our aussie cousins) and creating an additionall competiticve environment for the best young players in the UK to develop into good first grade players.

the focus should be on the future ... not the past!
