| Rather annoyed as my uni has decided that tonight's big screen game will be Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle, and there's no chance in hell of getting the RL on. ¬_¬
Any chance anyone knows of a pub in Stafford to watch it?

Tbh, it's probably better that it isn't on.
The only thing this game will serve to do is embarrass the sport. Why can't we play a team of foreign SL players?

oh stop your moaning. optimistic league fans dont you love 'em. This game will be the key in the medium future for rugby league in the uk. It's a steep learning curve but we need to keep at it. Game just needs a punch up at the beginning. I've got my ticket and i cant wait.

| Well, tbh, the Welsh surprised me.
The non-RL folk I watched it with, however, were given the impression that international Rugby League is a second class sport played in half empty, run down stadiums, with no atmosphere.
Why couldn't it have been played in Cardiff City's new stadium?

| Some people are never happy. Pre-game moaning it would be a cricket score. Wales play well and restrict a very ordinary England and then the stadium is the problem

It's not far to Cardiff, the capital of Wales, and it would surely have been easier to convince newcomers to attend a game in a new stadium there, than in Bridgend.
Typical lack of ambition, which is why we're playing the Aussies in bloody Wigan.

| The fixture is on a hiding to nothing. Big scoreline and people say what a waste of time international rugby league is, or a close scoreline and England are a waste of time.
Wales played very well and with a great attitude. England started very slowly but picked up a little in the second half. I hope with the likes of Roby, Maguire, Sinfield etc. our kicking game vastly improves, and the pace of our play improves.
Incidently, Tomkins has given Smith real food for thought for the next game, Mcguire has to go in there but on form you've got to give Tomkins the nod to partner him.

It's not. International Rugby League has two 'top' teams. England V Wales cannot be played in a big stadium or marketed aggressively until the match is even enough for a competitive game to occur.
International league is in a shocking state and to be honest I don't know why they are bothering with it when there are no clubs in most of the countries that are trying to participate. That has to come first.
At the lower level of things there are enough teams to make a decent competition, but elsewhere it's not possible. Perhaps we should be playing in the Pacific Cup and not in the farcical 4 Nations.

We were promoted out of that after spanking NZ 3-0 two years ago.
Not sure how NZ got out of it to get into the World Cup after that, but they did and made the most of it.

Listen mate. The game should never have been played.
When we're celebrating that England were dire enough to 'only' win by 36 points, it's hardly a glowing appraisal is it.
Add to that the stadium and atmosphere, and it just embarrasses the game.
Let France and Wales play each other and the likes of Scotland and Wales, and lets start up a 'Barbarians' style team to actually generate some excitement.
It would certainly get people talking.

Maybe the Welsh are celebrating resticting the England team to that scoreline. After all many said it would be an embarrassment, a steamrollering, a massacre.

You're clearly celebrating. And I sincerely hope the Welsh aren't celebrating for not losing as badly as some trolls on a message board suggested they might.

This from someone who actually went to the game:
Quote ="Grendel"Well i just got back from the game and not worrying about the 12 point handicap having Halibut reffing always costs us, I am actually very pleased with how the Welsh boys did.
We were never going to win and though it wasn't close, we did okay.
That Tomkins lad looked awesome from where we were. Has he signed yet? I'm sure Crusaders could find him a home if he wanted one.
And to reassure those whining b1tches moaning on about no atmosphere, well true the attendance for a "meaningless friendly" was no more than 3,000, but the Welsh fans made lots of noise (Especially at Carvell - which might explain all the armless tackles and clotheslines) and sang constantly. All praise to the Wigan lads down the cowshed end. I think it's the only noise I heard from England. Also, to further reassure those whining b1tches griping about our ground: though you have never been there, it is no worse than about half the grounds in Rugby League. Still it's always easy to criticise places you've never been eh?
Congratulations England, we were well beaten. But you'll excuse my relative happiness at the performance we put in.'"

| I attended the game and there was no problem with the atmosphere - ok it wasn't electric but the game didn't warrant it. I think most knew the difference in class between the two teams and so were satisfied enough with the Welsh effort, especially considering that it was a genuine young Welsh team. The only thing embarrassing to the game is moronic, insular Northern posters like 'decleration'.
