| How could 3 of them not pull this guy off the barrier? Give me a break, he has gone totally overboard. Widnes arent clean in any of this but neither are the stewards. I'm sure they're alright blokes out of work but when they are in work and in the many times i've been to Warrington games on the very few occasions its happened they do tend to make things escalate from something minor.

Just because he's a gripper doesn't mean anything besides I wish it had been his face, if cowardly scum want to kick off in groups at matches they might think twice if they thought they'd get a few smacks around the face.
Ask yourself this, the steward is surrounded by police, do you not think he's not aware of that, he's trained and given a proportionate of legal backing to use force. These guys might look dumb but they not what they are doing and how to do it.

How did you work that out? Regardless of whether he intended to go beyond "reasonable force" or not he caused more people to get involved, not quite crowd control. From my spec on the half way line it looked awful and as a representative of the club it simply isn't good enough.

So the guy holding the barrier refusing to be ejected, just holds on?
You've proven time abd and again on the wire forum that you live in student liberal not the real world land. What do yoi expect him to do?
Ask yourself this, if the police don't charge the steward doesn't that say that they deemed his actions as correct?
Force is sometimes deemed necessary whether you agree or not, welcome to the horrible real world and bad side of human nature.

Are you and Mikej taking the ? Whatever the Widnes fan did, did not endorse somebody who is paid to keep order to assault him.
You pair would make Olympic boxing judges as the majority of those punches were points scorers. What about the last two or three when he was 2-3 yards away from the first assault took place. Was he still holding onto the barrier and/or the stewards arm then?
You can't see what you want to see. No right minded individual can condone the reported behaviour of some Widnes fans or the actions of that 'steward' no matter where your allegiances lie.

Not quite sure how you worked that one out? I'd love to know so a quick PM would be much appreciated? Let's be clear, the Widnes 'fan' (I use the term loosely) was completely out of order, he deserves to have the book thrown at him by the Magistrates next month. If he got a few knocks on third day he undoubtedly deserved it. However we do not live in a society where bouncers, or anyone for that matter can take the law into their own hands. I'm no liberal but I am a big believer in the rule of law.
There are videos on the Internet of one steward last year being restrained by his colleagues and policemen. Even it you believe a man should be above the law the minute he puts a hi-viz vest on, you cannot deny it does the reputation of the club no good. If the police/CPS decide the man's actions were hustified then I respect that. However as far as I'm concerned he can stick to Bridge Street and give the HJ a miss.

Not trying to take the mickey. I just pointed out that this video gave me a different viewpoint from WHAT APPEARED to happen on the night and also the original comments made about the incident. In my earlier comment I did actually say that the clubs and if required the police were the best people to decide what action, if any, was necessary.

Two charged, 1 bailed pending enquiries, 2 fixed penalty notices and Cheshire Police confirmed they are aware of the "steward footage" on the internet and that officer are reviewing all available evidence........ I think the word ALL here is pertinent. let the professional make the decision about what is/isnt required to happen.

| I have to say, seeing the clip on t'interweb video it didn't look good for the steward. If another view makes it look ok then great. I guess the police have more footage.
If the dteward had assaulted someone, he deserves to be dealt with, however, in no way should that detract from the fan who was in the wrong in the first place.
I don't condone the "alleged attack from the steward, but equally, the guy put himself in that position. It's not like they picked an innocent bystander.

| Saw similar at Chesterfield FC earlier this year. The stewards were confronting supporters then started throwing punches. One of the idiots then bragged about breaking someones nose and ripping a jacket on his Facebook page later the same evening. He's a nightclub bouncer by trade. It's bad enough these knuckle-draggers are being hired for football but for rugby it's unbelievable. Wire do know these neanderthals quite like a dust-up?

Not really. When you have stewards who have been overheard bragging about how they like to push people around and cause trouble then it can cause trouble in any situation.
I'm not condoning this particular incident, by the way, just pointing out that things aren't always black and white.

That was. That's why loads of Salford fans were pointing out pretty much straight away that he didn't do it, and that some cretins who are known to be cretins had lied.

| Hopefully that Steward is reported and stripped of his licence.I am surprised the Police did not arrest the Steward, because the other Stewards had him restrained.I bet he was a doorman with no brain cells.

Y'know what? I give up. I'll leave serious response to Iain (as shown above), but well done for proving the point that any sensible debate on here is utterly pointless.

but heresay that "stewards have been heard bragging..." is part of sensible debate is it?
Fact is, apart from this, and the hull match at the end of last year, there's been no issues with the stewards/security as i can recall.
there's always grumblings from the usual suspects, but its not that bad, behave and you'll be alright.
Strangely, in 2012, ejections from the away end seemed to occur every game, but guess what, it was down to disagreements away fans and themselves in the main, which the stewards then rectified with no problems.

| The steward involved in the fracas with the widnes fan last august was found not guilty of assault,
3 key witnesses and the alleged victim didn't bother to turn up to court to give evidence. The gentleman in question was identified on CCTV for throwing the two smoke bombs, and when the security approached to remove him, he started being aggressive, and also was biting one of the security team.
Classy.

| I think that they are all just a little over-tired and come half time are in need of a little lie down in a dark room with their favourite teddies for cuddles.
This should sort out the aggressive nature of our friends!

They should be banned from all Widnes matches home and away. They are tarnishing the good name of their club and from where I am I cannot seeing the Widnes club taking any action.
I was ashamed of the so called "Wakefield fans" involved in trouble with Widnes fans. At least my club responded strongly and banned these idiots. It sets a benchmark and states that violence in a rugby ground will not be tolerated.
Widnes need to do the same and quickly. If the RFL had half a brain cell between them they would be consulting with the club to stamp this out immediately.
We are supposed to be a family game. All our teams have a small element of morons in their following, however not many clubs have morons who consistently cause trouble at away matches.
Sort it out Widnes and quick. For the good of your club and the good of our game.'"

Just to balance things out a little bit, the lad who was assaulted didn't turn up to court as he is currently working abroad.
Also his solicitor was told that there was no cctv footage of the alleged assault by the steward, which would make it difficult to find him guilty.
Finally the bloke who was assaulted was not the one who took the smoke bombs to the match or threw them once set off.
The behaviour of some of the Widnes fans that day was a disgrace, and there had been a few incidents at other matches, but what the steward did to the innocent party was totally out of order and could well have sparked a riot if it hadnt been for the actions of the more level headed stewarding staff and the restraint shown by the more genuine Widnes fans.
